Bryan Singer Returning To ‘X-Men’ Franchise

Probably the biggest news during the premiere of James Cameron’s new film Avatar came from outside the theater on the blue carpet when MySpace’s camera crew talked with Bryan Singer, who spilled the beans on his next projects. First up, seems to be Jack the Giant Killer – written by Mark Bomback (Live Free and Die Hard) and Darren Lemke, about a princess that goes missing, and disrupts a truce between man and giants. And Singer says, he’s gearing up to use the same technology that Avatar used.
But that’s not the biggest news from the premiere. Singer also said: “I just yesterday signed a deal to do an ‘X-Men: First Class Origins’ picture, which is kind of cool. An interesting development occurred on the Los Angeles "blue carpet" premiere of Avatar tonight as Bryan Singer reveals he has just signed on to direct X-Men: First Class for 20th Century Fox.
Singer was asked about his future projects by MySpace hosts and replied, "I'm prepping a movie called Jack the Giant Killer [with] Warner Bros, and I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class -- Origins -- picture, which is kind of cool." The video to the right features the words coming out of his mouth if you need further confirmation.
Of course, this news is likely to be received with open arms by the X-Men faithful that enjoyed Singer's original X-Men and then like most movie fans fell in love with X2: X-Men United. For the fourth consecutive year Hollywood has selected its Black List, a compilation of the top unproduced screenplays for 2009. Over 300 film professionals were asked to submit the titles of up to ten of their favorite screenplays. The only condition for the picks were that the projects would not be released in theaters this year. That means some of the Black List honorees may be in the process of being turned into movies but by far the majority remain thoughts on digital ink, a blueprint for grand dramatic ideas, high-reaching adventure and controversial ideas waiting to be burned to light.
For a screenplay to have made it onto the Black List it must have received at least five votes for it. Some scripts have five votes while the top-rated screenplay received 47 votes. That doesn't mean that the script with the most votes is the best screenplay of the year; it means »

According to HeatVision Blog, Bryan Singer (Superman Returns, Valkyrie) has signed on to direct “Jack the Giant Killer,” the fantasy adventure from Legendary Pictures and New Line.
Penned by Mark Bomback (Deception, Live Free or Die Hard) and Darren Lemke (Lost (2004)) while Neal Moritz is producing via his Original Film banner. David Dobkin will co-produce alongside Legendary’s Jon Jashni and Alex Garcia.
“Jack the Giant Killer” is set in motion when a princess is kidnapped, threatening a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants’ kingdom in hopes of rescuing her.
Apparently the film is being fast-tracked so it will mostly likely be Singer’s next movie. “Battlestar Gallactica” and remake of “Excalibur” (1981) will have to wait.

It's not really the news X-Men fans wanted to hear, but Bryan Singer has now signed on to direct Jack the Giant Killer.
According to HeatVision, the fairy-tale adventure from New Line and Legendary Pictures is being fast-tracked and is certain to be Singer's next movie. The news comes as we wait to find out if Singer will agree to helm Fox's X-Men: First Class.
It was reported last month by Variety that Singer was considering taking on the Giant Killer project - although it seems rather an odd match for his sensibilities.
The story, by Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard) and Darren Lemke (Gemini Man) centres on a young farmer's expedition to the giants' kingdom to rescue a kidnapped princess. There have been several other feature film versions over the decades.

Bryan Singer is ready to take on giants in his own film version of Jack the Giant Killer. The Superman Returns director hops on board underneath New Line Cinemas and Legendary Pictures. The script is being penned by Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever) and Mark Bomback (Race to Witch Mountain). Ori Marmur, Michele Weiss and Michael Disco producing.

When we last heard about New Line's adaptation of Jack and the Giant Killer, the fantasy tale was being helmed by D.J. Caruso. It started popping up on Bryan Singer's To Do list when they announced the inexplicable Excalibur remake -- but now it's become official, as The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Jack will be Singer's next film, leaving Caruso free to work on Y: The Last Man if he so chooses.
Jack is a slight reworking of (shocker!) Jack and the Beanstalk with a dash of The Brave Little Tailor. The Hollywood Reporter has released the news that director Bryan Singer has been tapped to helm the upcoming film Jack the Giant Killer for New Line Cinema and Legendary Pictures. The film takes a more adult look at the classic childrens tales, “Jack and the Beanstalk” and its cousin “Jack The Giant Killer” (the latter was already made into a 1962 stop-motion film).
This news comes as a bit of surprise (though it’s not being reported that way, for some reason), as last word around the ‘Net was that Eagle Eye director D.J. Caruso would be directing the film. After a quick search and survey I haven’t turned up anything explaining why Caruso is off the project and Singer is on, but hey, it’s Hollyweird so who knows…

Bryan Singer is a busy guy these days. He’s signing directing agreements left and right. In his latest, this time with New Line, Singer has agreed to direct a new version of “Jack the Giant Killer,” written by “Live Free and Die Hard” writer Mark Bomback (he also wrote the less popular “Deception” starring Jennifer Aniston). After having every single person with a television watching "House" the other night, Bryan Singer has officially come back into the spotlight. He's already signed on for Battlestar Galactica and Excalibur, but now he's also adding a twisted version on a classic story with Jack the Giant Killer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director will be tackling the Princess search-and-rescue mission for New Line. I have to admit, the notion of Bryan Singer directing another version of the “Excalibur” myth sounds very cool, but from what I’ve read of this “Jack the Giant Killer” movie, I think this might end up being a better film when all is said and done. Or at least, it’ll be slightly more original than “Excalibur”, or even the “Battlestar Galactica” film Singer has attached himself to since “Valkyrie”. Word from THR’s Heat Vision blog is that Singer has signed on to direct “Jack the Giant Killer”, effectively making it his next movie, which means the “Excalibur” remake and “Battlerstar Galactica” movie will have to wait. The story, written by Mark Bomback and Darren Lemke, centers around a kidnapped princess, and a young farmer who leads a dangerous expedition into the giants’ kingdom to rescue her.
Jack the Giant Killer will likely be Singer’s next movie, The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports. Since completing the Tom Cruise vehicle Valkyrie, Singer has attached himself to two other projects—a new feature version of Battlestar Galactica at Universal, and a remake of Excalibur at Warner Bros.
He’s also still much in demand by producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who said she would like to see Singer helm another 'X-Men' feature.

Bryan Singer's just added one more directing project to his plate, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Singer's apparently ready to work back-to-back-to-back, adding Jack the Giant Killer to the list of films he'll helm. He also recently signed on to head up the remake of Excalibur and to direct a Battlestar Galactica film.
Jack the Giant Killer was written by Mark Bomback and Darren Lemke and is based on the classic fairy tale. The story involves giants (obviously), a kidnapped princess, and a young man who must save her in order to keep the peace. Neal Moritz (I Am Legend, Fast & Furious) will produce the film, which is now set up at New Line Cinema. The Hollywood Reporter says the studio hasn't indicated when production is expected to start, however THR reports Jack the Giant Killer looks like it's leaped ahead of both Excalibur and Battlestar Galactica on Singer's schedule. »
