Christy Turlington wants to take her children to visit deprived communities in Tanzania. The 40-year-old supermodel - who has worked with aid agency Care International in Latin America and Product Red in Africa - believes taking three-year-old Finn and Grace, six, to help others less fortunate will make her a better mother. Christy - who married actor Ed Burns in 2003 - explained: "I look forward to them being old enough to come with me; I plan to take them to Tanzania when they're eight and 11. I think sharing the world with them will be my greatest contributions as their mother. "I've told them about some of the conditions I've witnessed, but I balance that by describing the »

When Christy Turlington Burns delivered son Finn, 3 ½, in 2006 without complication, she was acutely aware of how much she had to be grateful for. While still pregnant, the 40-year-old supermodel embarked on her first trip with Care to El Salvador, where she met with pregnant women who had walked for miles to collect clean water.
“[I] continued to think about those women and wondered how they have fared,” Christy tells the November issue of Parents magazine. “I learned that more than a half million women around the world die giving birth each year, and nearly all the deaths are preventable.”

If a project has Ed Burns' name attached to it, I'll sit up and take notice. I've been a fan of his dating back to his first film, The Brothers McMullen, which he wrote, directed and produced in 1995 while working as a go-for at Entertainment Tonight. Incidentally, he was able to finagle a copy of the film into Robert Redford's hands during an appearance there, and shortly thereafter, Burns quit his job at Et.
He'll write, direct and star in Bayside Boys, which is being billed as an East Coast Entourage. It's about a group of 20-something guys from the middle-class neighborhood of Bayside Queens that's being pitched to cable networks. One of the guys is employed at a hot-shot ad agency in Manhattan. Burns will play a supporting role as a mentor to the group. »

With its thunder somewhat stolen by Steven Spielberg and Co’s similarly plotted, infinitely superior techie romp Eagle Eye, this poor budget, poorly imagined cousin found its wide release slashed to a handful of theaters on its way to what is sure to be a long and productive shelf life as a staple of the Wal*Mart $5 bin. Billed as a “tech-charged conspiracy thriller” Echelon Conspiracy skirts dangerously close to violating the Trades Descriptions Act, as the closest this colossal borefest will take you to the edge of your seat is if you happen to slide off it having nodded off.
Echelon Conspiracy finds It security consultant Max Peterson (Shane West of ER fame) inexplicably embroiled in a global conspiracy via a series of mysterious and prophetic text messages from an anonymous sender. From Bangkok, to Prague to Washington D.C Peterson becomes a pawn of Martin Sheen’s shady »

If you judge .Echelon Conspiracy. as a straight-to-video knockoff amalgam of .Eagle Eye. and the .Bourne. films, you might just enjoy this moderate B-movie that coasts on comparably slick production values, a brisk pace and solid supporting work from Ving Rhames, Ed Burns and Martin Sheen. Apparently cued up for a full-blown theatrical release, Paramount and Dark Castle came to their senses (once seeing the Spielberg-produced similarly-plotted .Eagle Eye. beat .em out of the gate) and threw the film in a couple theaters this past Spring where its now finally found it.s rightful home in the unassuming, less expectant home vid market. The film, scripted by newbie.s Michael Nitsberg and Kevin Elders, takes a few pages from »

Christy Turlington happily posed for photos with her husband Ed Burns and their children for the August issue of Vogue. She took a break from her rigorous schedule of studying for a master's in public health and working on a documentary about maternal issues to chat with the magazine about her life. Christy opened up about her philanthropic causes and how her priorities have changed since her modeling days. She said: On her childhood: "I skipped that self-critical place that's dangerous for any teenager. I kind of figured, If Vogue thinks I look Ok, I probably look Ok. . . Right away I didn't like the identity of being a full-time model. The cliché of it! The clubs. . . My income surpassed my dad's in my first year of modeling - and my dad made a good living. That puts you in a different place in your family, and the power dynamic shifts. »

Echelon Conspiracy (2009) goes wrong in so many ways that it is easier to state what it does well. It begins with a vaguely intriguing premise about a cell phone that provides its owner instructions about how to gain wealth. And along with a few moments of good scenery, that is the film's major worth that is utterly undermined as the plot traverses hackneyed territory about the dangers of technology and eroding personal liberties while pushing the boundaries of piss poor filmmaking. If you have watched anything about technological themed government level conspiracies (Enemy of the State, Eagle Eye, 24, Jason Bourne films, etc), you already know what this film has to offer yet with much less production value and originality. This flick did manage to inadvertently provide a moment of amusement and slight amazement before I even viewed a single frame. Upon its receipt for review, I was perplexed as it »

Actor Ed Burns and his supermodel wife Christy Turlington are backing a new campaign to find a bone marrow donor for a little boy who attends the same pre-school as their three-year-old son Finn.
Burns found out about four-year-old Kai Anderson when he spotted a poster on the school's wall.
Anderson suffers an aggressive form of cancer called Philadelphia Chromosome-Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. He was diagnosed just a year after his father was found to be suffering from Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a similarly rare form of cancer.
Burns has vowed to publicise Anderson's plight, telling People.com, "It broke my heart. I went home and told my wife. We said, 'What can we do to help this family?' She called a friend and got more details. We wanted to do whatever we could."
And the couple is helping to encourage New Yorkers to attend a donor drive for Kai on 2 May at the Montessori School of Manhattan.
Burns adds, "The Tribeca Film Festival is going on that same day, so thousands of people will be in the neighbourhood. We're trying to get them to take a few minutes of their day to have their cheek swabbed so that they can become potential donors." »

On April 6, 4-year-old Kai Anderson, who attends the same school as Burns's son, was diagnosed with the rare and aggressive Philadelphia Chromosome-Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Tom Hanks was the man of the hour last night at the 36th Film Society of Lincoln Center's Gala in NYC. Rita Wilson sparkled on his arm, while Ron Howard framed the perfect shot of Tom and Julia Roberts. Fresh off her trip to Venice, Charlize couldn't help but gush about Salma Hayek's wedding and how beautiful the bride looked in her gown. Julia got the most attention of the night due to her miniroast of Tom. She teased him about a few of his past movies and used the f-word so many times to describe everything from his wife's body to wearing the same dress as his publicist that Tom called out her potty mouth in his own speech. In case you've been tied up with Oscar mania and are ready to go back to the actual movies, there are new ones. Whether or not it's safe to go back (yeah, that time of year) is another issue entirely. Links go to trailers.
The Reader and Slumdog Millionaire are taking their highly publicized Oscar wins to their highest screen counts yet and asking for the public's stamp of approval. Kate Winslet is a Time cover girl and Slumdog is on the cover of EW. How much more money does Slumdog have in it? It recentl cracked 100 million.
This isn't really about the theater counts but I'd love your opinion on what's going on with Entertainment Weekly these days? If you ask me they're phoning it in now that they have almost zero real competition. They skipped both pre-show Oscar covers this year which is, I guess, neither here nor »
