Jake Gyllenhaal Heads For Earth’s Highest Peak In New Still From Everest

23 December 2014 8:32 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

As those of us in the northern hemisphere batten down the hatches and prepare for the bone-chilling winds of winter, spare a thought for the cast and crew of Baltasar Kormákur’s Everest, who braved the unforgiving environments of Nepal and northern Italy all in the name of the director’s true-life mountaineering disaster flick.

Taking place in the year 1996, the film will chronicle the tale of three rivalling expeditions all competing to scale the world’s highest, near-unassailable peak. Things soon go awry when an unrelenting storm hampers their quest, killing eight of the brave climbers in the process. Everest will draw upon Jon Krakauer’s acclaimed book Into Thin Air, while also taking inspiration from similar novels and interviews with those that lived to tell the tale.

Working Title has doubled down on the dramatic source material by enlisting a star-studded cast that includes the likes of Nightcrawler‘s Jake Gyllenhaal, »

Jake Gyllenhaal Scales 'Everest' in New Image from Disaster Drama

23 December 2014 8:03 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

The mountain climbing drama Everest doesn't arrive until next fall, and it's one of our 20 Most Anticipated Movies of 2015. But so far we've only seen one photo from the film that has quite an impressive cast that includes Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal and John Hawkes as climbers facing the titular monster mountain that has claimed many lives. Now a new photo has surfaced from the film with Gyllenhaal as the most prominent climber. And while I'm pretty sure that's Brolin on the far right of the image (see it below), it's difficult to decipher just who is standing next to him. Look below! Here's the new photo from Baltasar Kormakur's Everest (via Empire): Check out the first photo from Baltasar Kormakur's Everest with Jason Clarke right here. Everest is directed by Baltasar Kormakur (Contraband) and written by Mark Medoff (Children of a Lesser God) and Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, »

New Image From Everest

23 December 2014 12:55 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Continuing his recent trend of looking unrecognisable from one film to the next, this new still from Everest reveals a more hirsute Jake Gyllenhaal than we're used to. Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke and John Hawkes also star in the moutaineering disaster drama, directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Contraband, 2 Guns). The story is of the 1996 events, made famous by Jon Krakauer's book Into Thin Air (already filmed as a TV movie with Christopher McDonald as Krakauer), in which three separate Everest expeditions ran into tragic difficulty in a sudden storm. Eight climbers died. This version of what happened is drawn from more sources than just Krakauer however, including other books and new interviews with the survivors. The screenplay is by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Les Misérables) and newcomer Justin Isbell.{Everest First Look}Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title are producers, and Keira Knightley, Robin Wright, Emily Watson, Clive Standen, »

Channing Tatum Wants To Play Venom, Sinister Six Wishlist Revealed

22 December 2014 8:21 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

While the fate of Sony’s Amazing Spider-Man franchise is very much up in the air right now, we do know that at one point, the studio was ready to move forward with both a Sinister Six and Venom spinoff. It’s unclear if they still plan to do so, what with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 being a bit of a bomb for them, but the projects are likely still being considered.

So far, no official casting has been confirmed, but the studio obviously has a wishlist of who they’d like to see bring these comic book characters to life. Now, thanks to some leaked Sony emails, we know who they have their eye on.

Drew Goddard, who is set to be behind the camera for Sinister Six, wanted Tom Hardy for Sandman and Emily Blunt for Scorpia. Meanwhile, studio head Amy Pascal liked Emilia Clarke and Elizabeth Olsen for Scorpia, »

Sony Wanted Tom Hardy as Sandman and Sean Penn as Doctor Octopus in Sinister Six

22 December 2014 2:52 AM, PST | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

According to leaked Sony Pictures emails from May, there were a lot of talks about the studio's "Sinister Six" film, which will be directed by Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) and focus on Spider-Man villains. Goddard mentioned that he wanted Tom Hardy to play Sandman, but there were also talks of making the villain the movie's comic relief, which is why actors like Danny McBride, Jonah Hill, Chris O'Dowd, Michael Pena, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, and Sharlto Copley were also on the list. Goddard wanted Emily Blunt as Scorpia, but Sony Pictures chairman Amy Pascal suggested Emilia Clarke and Rose Byrne. Sean Penn and Woody Harrelson were wanted for Doctor Octopus (the team's leader), while Colin Firth for The Vulture and Channing Tatum for Venom. Other actors like Denzel Washington, George Clooney and Daniel Craig were all considered for various roles. »

Photo: Walt Disney Pictures Entertainment Weekly has released several new images from upcoming 2015 releases including the likes of some artwork from Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens as seen directly above as well as pics from Ted 2, The Divergent Series: Insurgent, Furious 7, Jurassic World and many more. Full disclosure, just from looking at these pictures I wouldn't have been able to figure out what some of them are from, but lucky for you this isn't a "Guess the Movies" installment. Here's a look at several of the new pictures along with a little commentary of my own over the course of the next couple pages. I would have guessed this first picture below was for a Baby Mama sequel I didn't yet know existed -- in which case I'd have yelled, "Whoop whoop!" -- but alas, it's for a film called Sisters (previously known as The Nest »

He always said he’d be back, and the one thing the Terminator’s not is a liar. On July 1, 2015, Arnold Schwarzenegger returns in “Terminator Genisys” (um… no, that’s not a typo on our end). This latest installment in the James Cameron-launched franchise places us in 2029, where John Connor (played by Jason Clarke) is leading the resistance against the machines that have taken over the planet. When John learns of a new SkyNet plan to attack him in both the past and the future, he concocts a plot of his own to use terminators in both the past and the future to defeat the… You know what? We could try to explain how it all works, but this glorious parody trailer (via Live for Films) does it so much better while diving into the oddities and paradoxes of the series. Terrence Malick's Knight of Cups trailer is high on Christian Bale, excess, and temptation

15 December 2014 1:36 PM, PST | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Terrence Malick is an enigma.

The infamously press-shy writer-director worked sporadically at best until very recently, taking years off between films.  After The Tree of Life was released in 2011, Malick turned around and released To the Wonder before embarking on what seems to be two back-to-back films, with a largely overlapping cast in Knight of Cups and a yet-untitled film.

Of his two upcoming films, Knight of Cups is the one that audiences will get a look at first.  Hot on the heels of the announcement that the film will premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February, the trailer for the film has dropped online, offering the first glimpse at Christian Bale and co.

The trailer leaves a lot to the imagination as it doesn’t offer any concrete proof as to what the plot of the film is other than it’s a look at a man (played »

Watch: Mind-Blowing First Trailer for Terrence Malick's 'Knight of Cups'

15 December 2014 1:20 PM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

This is heaven for Malick fans. Set to bow in competition at the 65th Berlin International Film Festival, his long-awaited "Knight of Cups" starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Natalie Portman has its first trailer—and it's a dark, crazy ride through Malick-land. This tale of celebrity excess is shot by "Tree of Life," "Gravity" and "Birdman" Dp Emmanuel Lubezki, with gorgeous and surreal images that recall Malick's "Tree" and "To the Wonder." "Knight of Cups" will be Malick's first trip to Berlin since 1999, when he won the Golden Bear for his WWII epic "The Thin Red Line." The eclectic cast of "Knight of Cups" may or may not also include Jason Clarke, Wes Bentley, Nick Offerman and Joel Kinnaman, as Malick is notorious from slashing swaths from his films. (Rachel Weisz, Michael Sheen and Amanda Peet were all cut entirely from his divisive 2012 romance "To the »
