Susan Boyle is having what you might call an epic finish to 2009. Last week, rumors leaked that SuBo had been tapped to sing the title song in the next Daniel Craig led James Bond movie. Just recently, it was announced that SuBo would soon be doubling up with operatic superstar Andrea Bocelli to duet on an upcoming British talent reality show. Throughout this final week of the year, SuBo's battling neck and neck with Taylor Swift for top selling U.S. album of the year with her multi-platinum debut album, "I Dreamed a Dream". And, today, the only songstress possibly hotter than her on »

Ragtime the $8 million Broadway musical revival is closing after a disappointing run, despite generally upbeat reviews when it opened only two months ago. Some say it couldn’t compete against other shows without a name – read Hollywood — star on the marquee. Ragtime to contend with other shows that included such Hollywood luminaries as Jude Law, Sienna Miller Catherine Zeta-Jones, Scarlett Johansson, Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig among their casts. Hollywood stars definitely help bring in tourists. But blame poor marketing and cheap producers for Ragtime’s demise. »

No reason to get all hot and bothered yet, ladies. James McAvoy will not be stepping into the shoes being so effectively filled by Daniel Craig, not yet at least. He will, however, be playing the role of the man behind James Bond, Ian Fleming, who loosely based Bond's adventures on his own life. According to Pajiba the planned Fleming biopic will supposedly be focusing on Fleming's experiences during World War II, which most influenced the James Bond character. Fleming spent quite a lot of time as brains behind intelligence gathering teams, commanding task forces into Nazi Germany and collecting whatever documents or devices they deemed pertinent to the cause of the Allies. Based on the book Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, the biopic will be produced jointly by Palmstar and Animus Films, says Pajiba.s source. Palmstar.s focus has been making films based in the »

While Daniel Craig is the current 007 in residence at Eon Productions — the company responsible for 22 James Bond films, from Dr. No (1962) to Quantum of Solace (2008) — another British actor may be working with "Her Majesty's Secret Service" in the near future.
According to Pajiba, an inside source has revealed that Wanted star James McAvoy is in talks to play Bond's creator, Ian Fleming, in a biopic from Palmstar Entertainment and Animus Films.
With the working title Ian Fleming, the movie will be based on the book Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond by Andrew Lycett and is expected to focus on the years of Fleming's life that inspired him to create the world's most famous spy. Matt Brown is adapting the book for the screen, but no director has been attached yet.

James McAvoy has been attached to play Ian Fleming, the man who gave us the world's most famous spy. I'm busy working on my 2009 best of list, so I'm not going to go into some big long speech about the choice. Here's more from Pajiba: The movie itself will be based on the book, Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, by Andrew Lycett, who has also written books on Arthur Conan Doyle, Dylan Thomas, and Rudyard Kipling. The big news here, however, is that the movie — which has been independently financed to the tune of around $40 million — has James McAvoy attached in the lead, which sadly probably takes him out of the running to replace Daniel Craig in the future. McAvoy actually seems well suited to the role — he can do playboy (Bright Young Things), he can do period and war movie (Atonement), and he can do action (Wanted). Plus, »

Scotland may not have gotten one of their own as James Bond*, but they'll get the next best thing -- a Scot as the creator of James Bond. Pajiba reports that James McAvoy is attached to play author Ian Fleming in a big screen biopic. The project is currently hunting for a director, though Matt Brown has penned the script from Andrew Lycett's biography.
As Bond fans know, Fleming had a life and personality that mirrored his famous creation. He came from a posh Scottish banking family, and was a world traveler from a very early age. During World War 2, he was recruited from the Black Watch into Royal Navy Intelligence where he was the brainpower behind plans like Operation Goldeneye. His military background gave him a wealth of ideas for his Bond novels, and he eventually retired to Jamaica where he'd pen Casino Royale. By his own admission he always drank too much, »

Hugh Jackman? Nope. Angela Lansbury? No. Will Ferrell? Uh-uh.
None of those people were voted "Star of the Year" by readers of Broadway.com. That honor goes to former "American Idol" finalist Constantine Maroulis.
Maroulis was the "overwhelming choice" of more than 25,000 voters in the year-end poll for his Tony-nominated performance in the '80s rock musical "Rock of Ages," the site says. He beat out Jackman and Daniel Craig ("A Steady Rain"), Lansbury ("Blithe Spirit" and "A Little Night Music"), Ferrell ("You're Welcome America: A Final Night with George W. Bush"), Gavin Creel ("Hair"), Alice Ripley ("Next to Normal") and Geoffrey Rush ("Exit the King").
He also got to give an acceptance speech, which comes from a rather unglamorous spot but on the upside doesn't have anyone playing him off the stage after 30 seconds. Here it is.

Don't freak yet. He's not replacing Daniel Craig or anything. Actually James McAvoy is attached to play Bond's creator, Ian Fleming. Palmstar Entertainment and Animus Films are developing a biopic about the man behind 007. The story would focus on the years that gave him inspiration for Bond. The project is being based on the book, Ian Fleming: The Man Behind James Bond, by Andrew Lycett, according to Pajiba's very reliable source. Before his creation, Fleming stood in the shadow of »

At the New York Palace Theatre’s closing ceremony of the 21st annual Gypsy of the Year Competition, a six-week fundraising event that finished earlier this month, Bernadette Peters announced that a record-breaking $4.6 million had been raised.
The money was raised by 60 Broadway, Off-Broadway and National Tour companies – including original song and dance performances created by the casts of more than a dozen shows – to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/Efa), a charity that provides grants to Actors Fund social services and American family services and AIDS organizations.
A second record was broken during the competition by A Steady Rain. This Broadway play, staring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman, raised over $1.5 million for BC/Efa alone, more than double the record last set in 2003 by The Boy from Oz in which Jackman had also performed.

Best Films Of The Decade (aka The Naughties) From Alex & Terry
List # 1
By Alex Simon
When Terry and I initially discussed writing these lists, I had a tough time thinking back on 20 films over the past decade which I was really taken with, thinking that movies have sunk so low over the past ten years, that even choosing a dozen would be a short-order job. Thirty minutes into it, my list had nearly 60 titles! After much cutting, pasting, and re-cutting and pasting, here are my top 20 films (in no particular order) of the first decade of the 21st century, dubbed by many as “the naughties.” --A.S.
1.No Country for Old Men (Coen Brothers, 2007) An elegiac blend of stark beauty and full-throttle despair from two of our finest filmmakers, set in the contemporary American West. Every frame is damn near flawless, and would have been an even more perfect vehicle for the late Sam Peckinpah. »

The Smithy-Nessa-Dave love triangle is hotting up – and someone in Barry Island tourist office is very happy indeed
Heidi Stephens' episode four blog
Spoiler alert: This weekly blog is for those who have been watching Gavin and Stacey series three. Don't read ahead if you haven't seen episode five yet – or leave spoilers if you've already seen the final episode on DVD
So what's occurrin'?
Put down your Christmas sherry, because it's May bank holiday weekend in Barry, and both Pam and Mick and Smithy have independently decided to drive 200 miles to surprise Gavin. As you do. Anyway, the entire cast is off to Barry Island for a fun day at the beach, including fabulous neighbour Doris. Oh, and Gavin's sperm still haven't perked up, but they'll keep trying until the end of the year, and then think about adoption or sperm donation or zzzzzzzz. Sorry, I dropped off »

I confess, looking back, that I have no great generalizations to make about the movies that came along this decade. Except for this: There were more films of extraordinary and inspiring quality than I can count -- or include on this list. Without any trouble at all, I could easily have compiled a Top 100 list. Yet there's something about that magical arbitrary number 10 that focuses you, disciplines you, forces you to ask yourself what matters. Here, in order of preference, are the movies of the last 10 years that thrilled, moved, delighted, fascinated, and meant the most to this critic. They're »

Emmerdale star Maxwell Caulfield has revealed that he would love to land a part in the next James Bond movie. Asked to name his dream role in an interview with Inside Soap, Caulfield replied: "I wouldn't mind going toe-to-toe with Daniel Craig as the arch-villain in the next James Bond movie. The End of 2009? Whoop-doo! This year has been one hellatious shit storm from the get-go. Pregnant ladies and babies, The Great Depression Part II, pig flu, more than a handful of horrible shootings, a balloon boy, Tiger's indiscretions, and our first black president. Not to mention more dead celebrities than I can shake a stick at. Every time I turned around, some other atrocious calamity was happening right before my eyes. Making 2009 one of the most interesting years of this entire decade. According to Michael Ruppert in his film Collapse its only going to get worse before it gets better. Yes, the Teens are going to see more than half of your friends and family dead. Take account of the folks around you. By the time 2020 rears its ugly head, most of these people will be gone. Turned to dust and painful memories. My advice to you this coming New Year? »

Earlier this week, rumors leaked out about Susan Boyle recording the all-important title song for the next edition of the James Bond movie series, now starring Daniel Craig as Special Agent 007. Susan would be joining an all-star cast of past Bond crooners, including Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Madonna, Carly Simon, Duran Duran, Tina Turner, and, more recently, Chris Cornell and Jack White/Alicia Keys. However, despite the great honor, we couldn't help but imagine SuBo taking on an even more illustrious role in the next Bond film -- that of the famous Bond Girl, a plum role played in the past by »

The next James Bond film "Bond 23" might be on hold until studio MGM can either find a new owner or get an influx of cash, but that hasn't stopped the screenwriter for the film, Oscar nominee Peter Morgan, from teasing us anyway.
When discussing the script, Morgan recently said:
"It's a shocking story. Bond creates a hysteria around it, one that I haven't previous known. It's a magnet for publicity – everyone wants to know what's going on with the new Bond"
After the successful relaunch with new Bond Daniel Craig, Morgan will have to forgive us for being excited. An actor of Craig's caliber matched with a script by Morgan just sounds incredible.
Although financial matters remain uncertain, "Bond 23" is still scheduled to start filming in late 2010 for a November 2011 release.

Oscar-nominated screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Last King of Scotland, Frost/Nixon, The Damned United) has been hard at work on the first draft of the “Bond 23” script from July to October of this year, and for good reason.
While trying not to reveal to much, Morgan said:
“It’s a shocking story. Bond creates a hysteria around it, one that I haven’t previous known. It’s a magnet for publicity – everyone wants to know what’s going on with the new Bond”
According to reports back in 2007, Daniel Craig will still be playing James Bond for at least three more movies. Pre-production on Bond 23 has been put on hold because MGM is still looking for money or a new owner.
Despite the issues it’s expected that filming will commence at the end of 2010 for a release November 2011.

The next James Bond will have a ''shocking'' story. Screenwriter Peter Morgan, who wrote the scripts for 'The Queen' and 'Frost/Nixon', suggested that the third outing of Daniel Craig as Bond would grip audiences, but refused to confirm anything else other than saying ''it's a shocking story''.
