We've been anxiously awaiting the release of the first official trailer for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass, and although the trailer still isn't supposed to go online at MySpace for another couple of days, it has apparently leaked elsewhere... and Lionsgate seems okay with that. So here it is. The movie is based on the comic book by Mark Millar (Wanted) and focuses on a high school kid who decides to become a superhero... with no super powers whatsoever. The trailer certainly makes it seem like the movie is heavy on comedy (particularly with the presence of Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke), but only hints at some of the brutal violence that is also reportedly contained within. If I didn't know any better, I would think it was just another superhero spoof. Still, as someone who enjoyed the big screen adaptation of Wanted, but enjoyed the comic even more, I think »

Earlier today, I was at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. If you’re not familiar with Afm, it’s the place where film buyers from around the world come once a year to buy movies and also pre-buy films in development. Simply put, this is where a lot of money changes hands in the film industry and it’s where many decisions about what you and I get to see are made. In an effort to try and raise a film’s profile or attract film buyers, many of the studios print up promo art for movies in development or nearing completion. Almost none of the artwork will ever see the light of day outside of Afm, but if you’re a film junkie like me, then getting to see all this stuff is Christmas. After the jump you can take a look at the first grouping of »

Earlier today we got our first peek at a new set of "Kick-Ass" movie posters featuring the film's costumed vigilantes, and now Lionsgate has launched the official website for the big-screen adaptation of John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar's ultraviolent comic book series.
Debuting today at iamkick-ass.com, the site doesn't offer much at the moment aside from a look at the same four images from the new posters and a countdown to the "Kick-Ass" trailer debut—which will apparently hit MySpace.com on November 15 at 1 Am Est.
However, the site does feature a cool introductory animation that sweeps through the city on its way up to the quartet of costumed characters perched on a ledge.
"Kick-Ass" is scheduled to hit theaters on April 16, featuring Aaron Johnson as superhero-wannabe Dave Lizewski, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as copycat "hero" The Red Mist, Nicolas Cage and Chloe Moretz as the father-daughter vigilante team »

A quartet of new posters from "Kick-Ass," Matthew Vaughn's big-screen adaptation of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s ultra-violent comic book series, have arrived online.
The four posters feature images of the film's costumed vigilantes: The Red Mist (played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse), Kick-Ass (Aaron Johnson), Hit Girl (Chloe Moretz) and Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage). Each character is poised on a rooftop, facing away from the camera, and the four posters form a skyline view when aligned.

Previously, we heard from Mintz-Plasse and co-star Clark Duke about the research (or lack thereof) they had to do for their roles in the much-anticipated film. Now that the project has received distribution from Lionsgate and has a release date set (April 16, 2010), fans who have been eagerly awaiting the film can finally look forward to seeing »

IGN’s got your first look at four new character posters for Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming “Kick Ass” movie. Basically, it’s ass shots of the four main characters in their full costume get-up getting ready for battle. Or going to a Halloween party. Hey, what do I know what they do when they’re not out fighting crime? Dave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a super-hero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so. Starring Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Mark Strong, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, Xander Berkeley, Omari Hardwick, Tamer Hassan, Clark Duke, Lyndsy Fonseca, and directed by Matthew Vaughn. »

When it comes to comic book movie adaptations, fans can usually spot source-material unfamiliarity in the actors. Fortunately for fans of Mark Millar and John Romita Jr.'s "Kick-Ass" comic book, at least two of the film's stars have done their reading.
Turns out both Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke were already in a pretty strong position to tackle the research that came with their roles.
"I got the script and said 'I've seen this name before,' and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it," Mintz-Plasse told MTV News.
Mintz-Plasse, who plays the titular hero Kick-Ass' comrade in crime fighting, The Red Mist, is used to dual-identities thanks to his McLovin' role in "Superbad." This experience aside, Duke still seems to have him beat in terms of raw, comic-reading preparation.
"I had the comic first," said Duke, "I've been a big fan »

Actors who sign up for comic book movies often have to do a bit of research to familiarize themselves with the characters and concepts, especially when the movie they're starring in is based on a property that's not as widely known. For at least two actors starring in director Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the Kick-Ass comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., research material could be found in their own homes.
Superbad star Christopher Mintz-Plasse and bit player Clark Duke team up once again in Kick-Ass, and they told MTV that they were both familiar with the comic book before signing on to do the movie. Mintz-Plasse, who played the unforgettable character McLovin in Superbad and dons tights as The Red Mist in Kick-Ass, said:
I got the script and said, "I've seen this name before," and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it. »

Uma Thurman will star in Max Winkler’s “Ceremony”. You may not know the name Max Winkler for right now, but something tells me that the guy will be huge sometime soon. He recently co-wrote “The Adventurer’s Handbook” with Jonah Hill and Matt Spicer and he also directed the pretty great web series “Clark and Michael” starring Clark Duke and Michael Cera a couple of years ago. The guy seems to have some talent and is now gearing up to shoot his debut feature, “Ceremony”, starring Thurman and Michael Angarano (”The Forbidden Kingdom”) this fall. You can get the full details when you click on the jump.
Variety reports that Michael Angarano is set to play “a young man who falls for an older woman (Thurman) who is about to get married.” Thats pretty much everything we know about the film for right now. We also know that Jason Reitman »

John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, and Clark Duke play buds who get into a hot tub only to be transported back to 1986. The red band trailer showed up a while ago, but I just now stumbled across it. The idea behind the movie sounded dumb when I first heard it, so I didn’t really bother to cover it. The trailer is actually of funny, in a stupid, dumb kind of way. “I write Stargate fanfic, this is my bread and butter, man!” Classic. Plus, it’s got Crispin Glover. You can’t have a goofy time travel movie without Crispin Glover. Here’s the plot, such as it is: After a night of drinking Red Bull and vodkas, a group of guys travel back in time to when they were younger cads. Starring John Cusack, Lizzy Caplan, Crispin Glover, Kate Walsh, Chevy Chase, Sebastian Stan, Craig Robinson, Lyndsy Fonseca, »

Is it possible to create an accurate – or even remotely accurate – portrayal of frat or sorority life for a channel that caters to wholesome family programming? Can you imagine a world where the hazing which actually occurs in a fraternity would qualify as kid-friendly? Where the cattiest moments of sorority sisters don’t end in venomous slurs and backstabbing? No, because that’s essentially the dark side of the brotherhood/sisterhood system. True, you may leave college with a national support system for future job opportunities, but to get there you had to endure abuse and commit a bit yourself to get through it all. It’s with this viewpoint of the college fraternity and sorority systems that we amusedly watch Greek; not because it’s funny, but because it’s a woefully neutered examination of a system that everyone knows can never be accurately represented on ABC Family. And so we have Greek. »

Irish American actor John Cusack has pronounced himself bowled over by Ireland's beauty. Cusack, whose movies include Con Air, Grosse Point Blank, America’s Sweethearts and Being John Malkovich, was in Ireland to celebrate his mom's 80th birthday. But he also took time out from the huge family celebrations to do a three-wheeled road tour of Ireland on a Can-Am Spyder Roadster. Calling Ireland "a beautiful country," he said he was "amazed" by the history and scenery. Cusack and his family took in Dublin, Galway and Kerry (presumably not all on the three-wheeler!) and they were all stunned by the scenery and the people. Well, it's not news to us at Irish Central John! Anyway, Cusack is next up in a so-called time-travel comedy "Hot Tub Time Machine." "We just finished shooting it a week or so ago," says Cusack, who stars in the film with Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, »

Lionsgate, Paramount and Universal are competing to buy Mark Millar’s creator-owned title “Kick-Ass” after Comic-Con presentation of comic-book adaptation has generated a ton of interest.
Director Matthew Vaughan (Stardust) financed independently after some studios found the project’s violence too graphic and some of its dialogue too profanity-laced.
Sony were initially onboard, but Vaughn split with the studio over creative differences; they wanted to turn the character of Hit Girl (who is 11-years-old in the comic) into a teenager, for example.
Kick-Ass is a Marvel Comic Book that follows a high school dweeb named Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson). Lizewski decides to become a superhero, even though he has no athletic ability or coordination. Things change when he eventually runs into real bad guys, with real weapons. Nicolas Cage plays a former cop who tries to bring down a drug lord and has trained his daughter (Chloe Moretz) to be a lethal weapon. »

Classroom hijinks, high-drama socializing and the all-consuming threat of adulthood will be the order of business for the new season of "Greek." The ABC Family fictionalized profile of fraternity and sorority life marks the start of a new term on August 31.
The new season chronicles the partying scholars of Cyrus Rhodes as the stumble into a new semester of failing grades, liquor-heavy carousing, pledge terrorizing and relationship drama. Episode one titled "The Day After" picks up where last semester's "The End of the World" shindig left off.
Favorite undergrads who managed to survive last season including Cappie (Scott Michael Foster), Rebecca (Dilshad Vadsaria), Casey (Spencer Grammar), Rusty (Jacob Zachar) and Dale (Clark Duke), are back to the books...and booze.
Guest stars abound as well. Sultry waitress Lana (Olivia Munn, "Attack of the Show!") distracts, Zbz pledge Abby (Olesya Rulin, "High School Musical") irritates and Ashleigh's father, Brian (Kadeem Hardison, »

When I walked into Hall-h for a preview of Kick Ass with the cast and crew, I really didn.t know what to expect. Honestly, while I was planning on interviewing both Clark Duke and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, I wanted to know as little as possible about what I was going to see. I had never read the comic, and from the description, it sounded like a quirky family flick. Damn was I wrong. This movie looks to. yes, kick some ass. Afterwards, Christopher and Clark sat down with JoBlo and talked... »

Now that we've had a few days to digest the gloriously moronic (and Nsfw) trailer for John Cusack's upcoming time-travel comedy Hot Tub Time Machine, we can't help thinking that it will either be the stupidest movie Rob Schneider never made or a so-dumb-it's-brilliant instant classic. Well, after speaking with Cusack about it, we're more convinced than ever it will be the latter. "We just finished shooting it a week or so ago," says Cusack, who stars in the film with Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke and succinctly describes the film as "four idiots who are thrown back into the '80s to go boldly where men have gone before." "It's a ridiculous film. You're pretty much either sold with the title, or it's not for you." By the way, if you haven't seen the trailer, here you go... We'll admit it. The first time we watched this thing, »

Simplicity is sometimes the brilliant way to go. Mission accomplished for Hot Tub Time Machine.
A group of men (John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke) are thrown back in time to their younger days in 1986, thanks to their hot tub. It’s also fair to say this movie will be the absolute opposite of The Time Traveler’s Wife with Eric Bana.
It’s almost like I want John Cusack to declare this is the third film in some sort of odd trilogy with Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer. After all, those films came out in 1985 and 1986. Perhaps Cusack could hook up with Demi Moore again. After all, she somehow hasn’t aged since appearing in One Crazy Summer. I just hope there’s still time for him to save the assisted living home.
The trailer is red band, enjoy.
