Police To Extend Patrols Of Malibu Beaches After Weekend Trouble

24 June 2008 11:51 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Latest: Extra sheriff's deputies have been assigned to patrol the beaches of Malibu, California after two celebrity-related incidents at the weekend (21-22Jun08).

On Saturday, Colin Farrell challenged a paparazzi after the Irishman spotted the snapper trying to take beach shots of him, his son and pregnant pal Minnie Driver.

Farrell ran up the beach and confronted the videographer, asking, "Are you f**king taking a picture of me and my boy? Turn that off."

And on Sunday, snappers trying to get photos of Matthew McConaughey at Paradise Cove beach brawled with angry surfers, who took offence when their playground became a paparazzi target.

In video footage released to news networks, the surfers can be seen beating up the photographers and dragging one of them into the ocean.

Local officials in Malibu are fighting to change city laws to prevent the paparazzi from invading beaches. In the meantime, police have agreed to patrol target areas in a bid to halt further clashes between photographers and sunbathers.

One local tells WENN, "It's getting out of hand. Suddenly you spot a celebrity and then there's a swarm of photographers. Malibu people are sick of it."

Farrell Accuser Wins Prostitution Battle + Takes Aim At The Police

24 May 2008 6:51 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The woman who tried to sue Colin Farrell for sexual harassment has been cleared of prostitution and loitering charges.

Dessarae Bradford was exonerated from all hooker accusations in a Los Angeles court on Tuesday.

Delighted Bradford says, "The jury took a little over an hour to reach their unanimous decision, and I have been cleared of all charges."

Since her arrest in November, Bradford has reported the officer who landed her in trouble.

She says, "He is still now under investigation by internal affairs because of this matter.

"My brilliant attorney, Jessica Canada, and I are now preparing the civil court documents required to now sue the Lapd (Los Angeles Police Department) for $20 million, because of the public defamation, false arrest, profiling, racism and other police misconducts that I experienced and that I am still emotionally disturbed by.

"The court papers will be filed against the Lapd this month."

Farrell Gets A Break In Potential Slander Battle

23 May 2008 10:31 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

The former telephone sex worker who announced she was "waging a war on Colin Farrell" after he filed a restraining order against her has taken pity on the actor and agreed to leave him alone - until he gets healthy.

Dessarae Bradford, who unsuccessfully sued the Irish star for harassment twice, has released a song and a book detailing her alleged fling with Farrell.

But Bradford, who has also lashed out at Farrell in TV interviews, is keen to give the Irish actor a break after seeing new photographs of him looking gaunt and ill.

In a statement to Wenn, she says, "I am curtailing my slander, libel, and defamation lawsuit that I am prepared to file against him, until he becomes healthy and fit to stand trial - or the matter gets settled beforehand." Farrell recently sparked fears for his health after he appeared at a press conference looking alarmingly gaunt - but he insists he's merely shedding weight for a film role.

The 31 year old shocked reporters when he showed up to promote his upcoming movie Triage - in which he plays a war reporter in 1990s Bosnia - during a trip to Spain.

Farrell: 'Weight Loss Is Healthy'

16 May 2008 4:06 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Colin Farrell has sparked fears for his health after he appeared at a press conference looking alarmingly gaunt - but he insists he's merely shedding weight for a film role.

Farrell, 31, shocked reporters when he showed up to promote his upcoming movie Triage - in which he plays a war reporter in 1990s Bosnia - during a trip to Spain.

He tells People.com, "I lost weight because my role demanded it. It was all very healthy."

The Irish actor did not elaborate as to how he lost the weight, instead quoting a line from the Scott Anderson novel on which the movie is based: "He went to the bathroom to shave. Once his beard was gone, he saw that his face had become drawn. He pressed at the hollows beneath his eyes, the pronounced nubs of his cheek bones."

But this is not the first time Farrell's appearance has prompted speculation of ill-health. The actor was released from a rehab facility in January 2006 after a spokesperson for the actor confirmed his voluntarily admittance to the programme in December 2005 to seek treatment for his use of recreational drugs and painkillers.

Farrell, who plays a photojournalist covering the conflict in new film Triage, admits he felt "sick" after visiting the town's cemetery.

He tells Reuters, "It is hard to describe how obviously the air and the land has been poisoned by the act of killing 8,000 people in the space of a day.

"But you really do get the sense of the pain and the loss and I am sad, I really am sad."

Steaming Farrell Lets It All Out

19 March 2008 12:00 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Hollywood star Colin Farrell has taken up an unusual hobby to combat the damage caused by his drink and drug past - detoxing in steam baths "with strange Russian men".

The Phone Booth actor discovered the 10th Street Russian + Turkish Baths - a favourite haunt of late stars Frank Sinatra and John Belushi - on New York's Lower East Side after leaving rehab in 2006, and has been a regular visitor ever since.

Farrell insists the therapeutic benefits of "sweating in silence" have given him strength in his battle to keep his demons at bay.

He says, "There's something very basic about rubbing honey on your skin and going steaming with a bunch of strange Russian men. There's something ancient about it: in a world of easy pleasure, sitting around a couple of hot rocks in an open oven and sweating in silence is f**king beautiful.

"And if you stay in there long enough, you begin to feel everything fade away."

Farrell: 'Sex Advances Mean Nothing To Me'

18 March 2008 12:05 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Colin Farrell insists the sexual propositions he's bombarded with in public mean "less than nothing" to him, quashing theories he uses the saucy encounters to boost his ego.

The Phone Booth star - a notorious lothario - has always spoken candidly about his lust for meaningless intimacy with strangers, and continues to attract female advances whenever he's out socialising.

However, Farrell never feels good about bedding admirers because he knows the women who approach him aren't interested in his personality - they're merely thrill-seekers hooked on seducing celebrities.

He says, "None of these people who want to have a drink with me or want to f**k me, none of them have any idea what I am like as a person.

"With that in mind, it doesn't make me feel good or bad. It's better when someone hands you a note with a phone number on it rather than saying, 'F**k you, you're a c**t.' That would be kind of s**t. But it means less than nothing. Really it does."

Farrell Battles To Stay Sober

18 March 2008 12:05 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Recovering drug and alcohol addict Colin Farrell is struggling to stay sober - and constantly fights the urge to down booze and pop pills.

The Hollywood star checked into rehab in 2005, fearing his addictions would kill him if he carried on his hedonistic lifestyle.

And while the Miami Vice star has been clean since, he frequently toys with the idea of indulging his passion for alcohol and narcotics for one night only.

However, Farrell - with the help of past experience - is fully aware one night of excess would quickly lead him back down the path of destruction.

He says, "There are times when something's happened and I'll get down. I'm still powerless today. If I started drinking now, who knows? It would probably start slowly but I'd be f**ked, fairly quickly. I just try to remember where I was.

"I'd f**king love to be able to drink. I'd f**king love to have a couple of nights f**king howling at the moon. I miss howling at the moon. And not just have a drink, I'd love to be able to pop some f**king OxyContin or some Percocet (both painkillers) and know that it's not going to become a f**king habit. Turn on, tune in, drop out, I'd love it."

Farrell Quits Blockbusters

18 March 2008 9:13 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actor Colin Farrell will never star in a big budget movie again - because he's sick of working for producers whose sole aim is to make money.

The Hollywood star - who spearheaded the blockbusters Alexander in 2004 and 2006's Miami Vice - has learned from his "horses**t" experiences on mega-budget productions, and is adamant he'll never be part of such a high-pressure working environment again.

He says, "If you are on a film such as Miami Vice or Alexander that has a budget that is healthily north of $100 million (GBP50 million) you can pretend that it's all about the work but there's a certain amount of pressure.

"You have decided to walk into a world where the most important thing is financial return and your are going to get a call on Saturday telling you what the Friday opening was. I've been on the receiving end of a couple of those calls and it's horsesh**t. I don't want to play in that world any more."

Farrell: 'My Family Saved My Life'

17 March 2008 12:22 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Irish actor Colin Farrell fears he would be dead if his family hadn't begged him to seek help over his drink and drug addiction.

The Miami Vice star became famed in Hollywood for his drunken antics and lothario reputation after appearing in blockbusters such as Alexander and Phone Booth.

But the 31-year-old reached a point where his continual partying took over his life, prompting the star's terrified family to push him into seeking help for his problems.

He tells the British edition of Gq, "I couldn't stop. Just literally couldn't stop. What happened at the end of Miami Vice was that I knew I couldn't stop and wasn't going to stop.

"I was just f**king depressed and profoundly sad. So my family stepped in and said, 'It's time. You're killing yourself', and I said, 'F**k, yeah I am.' My family saved my life."

Ledger's Final Film Will Not Be Altered, Vow Movie Bosses

10 March 2008 12:13 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Producers working on Heath Ledger's final film have vowed not to alter the tragic star's last performance, even though the actor never got the chance to complete the project before his untimely death.

Work on The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus resumed on Monday after the Brokeback Mountain star's death halted filming on the project earlier this year.

In his honour, Hollywood superstars Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law have signed up to feature in the film, which is due for release next year.

However, the film's director Terry Gilliam and its producers have promised to preserve every detail of Ledger's final performance, and that the hiring of the three new stars will not affect his work.

A statement released by the movie's producers reads, "Since the format of the story allows for the preservation of his entire performance, at no point will Heath's work be modified or altered through the use of digital technology.

"Each of the parts played by Johnny, Colin and Jude is representative of the many aspects of the character that Heath was playing."

Gilliam adds, "I am delighted that Heath's brilliant performance can be shared with the world.

"We are looking forward to finishing the movie and, through the film, with a modicum of humility, being able to touch people's hearts and souls as Heath was able to do."

Ledger had just finished shooting scenes for the fantasy movie in London just days before he was found dead in his New York apartment in January.

Toxicology results released last month revealed Ledger was killed by an accidental overdose of prescribed medications.
