After making a name for herself in Hollywood, Maggie moved on to motherhood — welcoming her first child with Peter Sarsgaard in 2006 — and quickly realized the harsh reality of balancing life as a working mom. “I was brought up to believe I could do anything I wanted professionally and, of course, be a mother at the same time — but I’m finding that it’s complicated,” she tells Working Mother.
“It requires a lot of thought and planning and I haven’t figured it out yet.”

Jake Gyllenhaal proved his dedication to girlfriend Reese Witherspoon by helping her two kids compete in a Massachusetts road race this weekend.
The actor, who has been dating Witherspoon since 2007, put on his running shoes to tale Ava, nine and Deacon, five, to compete in the 5K Chilmark Road Race on Saturday (August 8) on Martha’s Vineyard.
Gyllenhaal came 53rd in the event with a time of 20 minutes, 43 seconds and made sure he grabbed a camera at the end to capture the kids crossing the finish line.
His mother, screenwriter Naomi Foner, also took part and was seen running alongside Deacon and shouting encouragement.
Ava and Deacon's dad is Witherspoon's ex-husband, actor Ryan Phillippe. »

Iron Man will battle Benjamin Button for the coveted Scripter Award, which honours both the author and screenwriter of the year's best book-to-film adaptation.
The action film and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button will compete with The Reader, Revolutionary Road and Slumdog Millionaire for the honour, which will be announced at the University of Southern California's Edward L. Doheny Library in Los Angeles on 30 January.
Last year's Scripter co-winners, Joel and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men) went on to win the Oscar for their screenplay adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel.
The Scripter selection committee, featuring Jake Gyllenhaal's writer mother Naomi Foner and movie mogul Lawrence Kasdan, chose the five 2009 nominees from a field of 58 films. »
