Melissa George spends time between Christmas and New Year thinking about goals

29 December 2009 5:35 PM, PST | Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news »

Melissa George has admitted she spends the time between Christmas and New Year thinking about her goals for the year ahead. The In Treatment actress said she was fiercely ambitious. She said: 'I never show it, never - but I have these lists that I write at night: what to achieve the next day, and it has to be done.' Melissa, whose film credits include Triangle and 30 Days Of Night, went on: 'And at Christmas, before New Year's Eve, I write what I want to achieve the next year and then I put it in an envelope and don't open it until the following year. Then I look at what I have done. Have I done »

Kaleidoscope 2009: Important TV Events (Part 1/4)

28 December 2009 2:33 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Struck by recession, the TV world ceased to inflate a full-blown season in 2009. In order to keep the budget slim, many shows reluctantly reduced the number of star appearances and the networks were forced to carefully select those which will gain them profit and ratings. This led to many actor exits as well as mediocre show cancellations. AceShowbiz is taking its readers for a time travel to the year that was particularly hard on entertainment industry, beginning with the first quarter.

January

What started with a big bang, "Prison Break" had to swallow bitter pill when Fox decided to pull the plug after four years in the running. The series starring Wentworth Miller took a sharp plunge in the transition from third (8.2 million) to fourth (5.3 million) season, which prompted the network to order two additional episodes as a mean of conclusion to the whole drama. 30 Days of Night: Dark Days To Be a "War" Movie

23 December 2009 5:40 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Shooting has wrapped on the 30 Days of Night sequel, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, and producer J.R. Young told ShockTilYouDrop that fans of the first movie will be very pleased with what he described as a "war movie". I think the second film definitely stays within the world of the first film and it stays true to the second graphic novel in the series for those fans out there. The story is within that world but there are differences and a lot of that is due to the graphic novel. The first film is very much a survival film and this next one is all about revenge. There's an action component. The last one is a western, this one is more of a war movie. It's taking the battle to the vampires.

Seeking revenge will be Kiele Sanchez, taking over for Melissa George who could not work out her schedule to return. »

A 30 Days of Night: Dark Days Preview

22 December 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

It took some time getting to this point, but the ever-expanding world Steve Niles created in 2002 with the comic book series "30 Days of Night" is beginning to climb off the page, out of the coffin, so to speak, and into a fruitful (undead) life in cinema. Five years after the vampires of Niles' three-part story ran amok in the small town of Barrow, Alaska, director David Slade and Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures brought 30 Days of Night to the big screen. Distinct in look and bloody as hell, the adaptation - as it had played out in the graphic novel - offered a sense of closure but left a door open to explore the life of Barrow widow Stella Olemaun (played by Melissa George). Two years later, Ghost House went back behind the camera for 30 Days of Night: Dark Days »

Terror Tidbits (Fango #290): The Infernal Triangle

19 December 2009 10:00 PM, PST | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

At the end of a long pier just off the beach at Surfer’s Paradise in the Australian state of Queensland, the three-story front end of an ocean liner sits on a huge pile of rocks. It’s not wrecked—although many of the people who walk its decks will be. Instead, it’s the ingenious solution to the problem of making a film that’s mainly set on such a vessel—one that you can’t really hire, or buy off eBay. It also helps when you need your movie to showcase real waves, and not the computer-generated variety.

The film is Triangle, and the writer/director is Englishman Chris Smith, the feverish brain behind Creep and the more recent, savagely hilarious Severance (which every workplace on the planet should sit down and watch for their own bonding benefits). The all-Australian cast includes Melissa George, who previously lensed 30 Days Of Night in New Zealand, »

Triangle (2009) Movie Review

11 December 2009 8:45 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Christopher Smith’s “Triangle” is a clever, tightly plotted supernatural thriller that, towards the end, actually feels more like a slimmer, more condensed version of a Paul Thomas Anderson drama than the third feature-length film from the guy who gave us “Creep” and “Severance”. The film is not nearly as gory as those other two, but it certainly packs more emotional punch and requires more of an investment in the old noggin to get through. Although yes, if you missed anything the first time around, you will benefit from a second or even third viewing, but to be honest with you, I’m not sure if you’ll want to take that plunge because, well, “Triangle” isn’t exactly the kind of film that lends itself to repeat viewing from an entertainment standpoint. One trip was certainly more than enough for me, and I suspect it’ll be the same »

George Books In Baby

2 December 2009 8:26 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Australian actress Melissa George has booked in time to have a baby next year.

The Mulholland Drive star married Chilean director Claudio Dabed in 2000, and they have waited nine years to start a family.

But George is adamant she wants to get pregnant in 2010 and she's pinpointed a gap in her schedule when she can realistically take time off for a baby.

She says, "I'm going to have a baby. I have booked three different movies starting in February going all the way through to July, which I am really happy about. Then I think I will just have a baby after that."

George, 33, is a stepmother to Dabed's 15-year-old daughter Martina, from a previous relationship. »

Another Amityville Horror Reboot?

2 December 2009 6:45 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

The current trend in Hollywood to "reimagine" or "reboot" a movie franchise rather than create a sequel continues. This time, it's a horror movie that has already been rebooted in recent years. The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, according to Bloody Disgusting, are planning on rebooting The Amityville Horror less than five years after producer Michael Bay and Platinum Dunes reimagined the 1979 original.

Based on the 1977 book The Amityville Horror: A True Story by Jay Anson, the original movie starred James Brolin and Margot Kidder as newlyweds who are driven out of their house in Amityville, New York, by evil entities from beyond the grave. The 2005 version starred Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George and was marketed by MGM as being based on new information about the supposedly true events.

Other than the news that an unspecified director may already be in talks to direct the reboot, there's no other information about the project. »

Amityville Horror Getting a Remake

30 November 2009 4:33 AM, PST | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

Part of the original, 1979 film’s tagline says it all.  For God’s sake, Dimension Films, don’t go through with this project.  According to Bloody Disgusting, the Weinstein-backed genre studio is prepping a remake of The Amityville Horror.  No, you didn’t get into a DeLorean, and, no, we didn’t just jettison ourselves back to 2004.  Platinum Dunes did release a remake of the film in 2005 starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, but that isn’t stopping Dimension from turning around five years later to do the exact, same thing.

According to Bloody Disgusting (and their source) a director is already in talks to helm the project.  Until recently, MGM was planning on doing an Amityville-centric film, The Amityville Tapes.  Their recent financial issues have, to say the very least, put a hamper in that film’s projection.

The 2005 version of the film was anything if not a success. »

Is The Amityville Horror Being Remade?

30 November 2009 3:46 AM, PST | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

According to Bloody Disgusting, the Weinstein Co and Dimension Films are planning to remake The Amityville Horror. It's slightly strange news considering it's only been four years since the last remake by Platinum Dunes back in 2005, which starred Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George and grossed over $108 million worldwide.

The original film, directed by Stuart Rosenberg, was a cult favourite back in 1979 and was adapted from the book which was said to document the real life paranormal experiences of the Lutz family in their home in Amityville, New York, although there has since always been controversy and speculation as to whether this was really the case.

Of course, with the hype surrounding Paranormal Activity at the moment, which is a film in very much the same vein as The Amityville Horror, it's hardly surprising that the Weinsteins may be looking to exploit the "real life" paranormal zeitgeist that's pervaded cinema this year. »

Anyone Wants Another Amityville Remake? No? The Weinsteins Do…

26 November 2009 1:11 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s either a bold, brave move on the part of a company who know how to reinvent a horror classic merely five years after the last rehash, or it’s the desperate flogging of a horse that’s not only dead but was set six feet under a few years ago.

Nevertheless the Weinstein Company and Dimension films believe the time is rife again for a return to The Amityville Horror, according to Bloody-Disgusting, and despite the 2005 remake starring a bearded be-sixpacked Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George not exactly chilling friends and unnerving people, the prospect of another visit to Long Island looks to be in our future.

Of course the project is in the very early stages and there’s little chance that this will see the inside of a cinema for a good long while, yet it points to a disturbing trend, namely the rebooting of a »

More 'Amityville Horror' on the Way

25 November 2009 9:10 PM, PST | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Back in 2005, Platinum Dunes released a remake of the 1979 film The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George. Budgeted at $19M, it was a reasonably inexpensive effort that made a tidy gross of $108M internationally.

So what does that mean? Why, that it's time for another remake, of course. According to Bloody-Disgusting, the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are planning to remake The Amityville Horror once again and are already in-talks with a director to develop the project.

In the 2005 film, George Lutz (Reynolds), his wife Kathy (George) and their three children move into a house that was the site of a grisly mass-murder only a year earlier. They decide to keep the house until they begin to be terrorized by demonic forces. George starts to behave weirdly and their daughter, Chelsea (Chloë Grace Moretz), starts to see ghastly things. What follows is 28 days of sheer terror for the family. »

Exclusive: Steve Niles on '30 Days of Night: Dark Days'

24 November 2009 12:07 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Call it counter-programming. At a time when vampire romance tales threaten to completely extinguish any reminder that the undead were once creatures to be feared rather than swooned over, shooting has at long last begun on the sequel to 30 Days of Night, the Josh Hartnett-starring film adaptation of Steve Niles fan-favorite comic book. Filling in for the Melissa George, the first film's heroine/survivor is Lost's Kiele Sanchez, who's joined by genre veteran Mia Kirshner and Sanchez's fellow Lostie Harold Perrineau. Last week we chatted with Niles from his home in La about what we can expect from 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. How did this come about in the wake of the first film? We thought the first 30 »

Exclusive: Producer Talks 30 Days of Night: Dark Days From the Set

23 November 2009 11:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Dread Central hit the set of Sony’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days earlier this month - the film wraps principal photography today in Vancouver, Canada, under the watchful eye of co-scripter (with Steve Niles) and director Ben Ketai - and while there sat down with producer Jr Young (among others) to discuss the flick (cast interviews to come).

“This is a very edgy film,” Young, who previously produced The Messengers, told Dread while intently watching a scene being played out in video village – a scene which featured a rather hysterical and bloody actress (Katherine Isabelle) pleading for her life. “Ben knows this world. I think it comes natural to him.”

Starring Kiele (A Perfect Getaway) Sanchez, Mia (De Palma’s The Black Dahlia) Kirschner, Rhys ("Entourage") Coiro, Diora (Night of the Demons) Baird, Harold ("Lost") Perrineau, Troy (A Marine Story) Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian, Monique (Cabin in the Woods) Ganderton, »

Steve Niles Says More 30 Days of Night Movies Could Follow Dark Days

20 November 2009 11:47 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Less than two weeks ago, the first still image from the set of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days was released showing Kiele Sanchez taking over for Melissa George as Stella. 30 Days creator and Dark Days writer Steve Niles originally said that they decided to cast "slightly younger" because they hoped to make more movies based on the multitude of 30 Days graphic novels.

However, in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, he said that there were other issues that factored in the decision.

Schedule. The enemy of all casting. [Melissa George has] got a million gazillion things going on right now, so we couldn't fit it.

As far as plans for another film after Dark Days, possibly based on the Return to Barrow graphic novel, Niles said the main concern right now is getting Dark Days "in the can."

More '30 Days of Night' Sequels May Be On The Way, Hints Creator Steve Niles

With filming of “30 Days of Night: Dark Days”, currently underway in Canada, Steve Niles — the writer and creator of “30 Days” — is hinting that more sequels may follow.

"Right now we’re just trying to get this one in the can," said Niles in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. "If that goes well, we’re set up to move forward. We got a great young cast that we can bring along if this works out well, and we’ll be ready to keep going with the story. Plus, the comics are done. God, what do we have, like seven different graphic novels now if it actually took off?"

“30 Days of Night” was first published in 2002 as a three issue miniseries by Idw with Niles and artist Ben Templesmith as the creative team. The story follows the residents of a small town in Alaska who must endure a siege of vampires during an extended period without sunlight. »
