This week:
Avatar beats Holmes to number one; Kevin Bacon is Super; Jackson and Kilmer fire a Gun and Paramount saddle up for The Further Adventures of Doc Holiday.
Box Office
James Cameron is the “King of the World”. The Terminator has yet another Titanic hit on his hands with Avatar. The fantasy adventure epic has banked another $76 million for a magic $217 million total.
Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock Holmes had to settle for the runner-up position with a decent $65 million debut. It looks like Downey Jr. now has two action franchises to play with!
The Alvin and the Chipmunks sequel brought in another $50 million for a $84 million total. It looks like a third installment will be on the way.
Meryl Streep shows that she can still open a movie with It’s Complicated. The comedy had a $23 million opening. Never underestimate the power of Streep.

Kevin Bacon will soon play an evil drug dealer in an upcoming action comedy titled Super. The movie directed by James Gunn tells the story of an average man played by Rainn Wilson who takes on the role of a super hero. Liv Tyler will play alongside Wilson and Bacon as the wife of the super hero named Crimson Bolt. Screen Daily calls Bacon's character, Jacques, a smooth-talking criminal. Gunn said: 'Kevin Bacon is one of the few actors nimble enough to give life to Jacques, our super-villain with a nice streak. We need to love Jacques even while he's doing horrible things – Kevin is one of the only actors I know who can »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.
"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...
@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

Not many people know director James Gunn by name, but most can pick his work out of a lineup. He’s had a pretty eclectic career behind the camera. He got his start working with the people such as Lloyd Kaufman and his Troma bunch.
From there, Gunn went on to write such films as Scooby-Doo, Dawn of the Dead, and most recently, Slither starring fan favorite Nathan Fillion. Gunn has always had an outspoken love of the superhero and comic book genre, especially with his superhero spoof film The Specials starring Rob Lowe back in 2000.
It looks like Gunn is at it again, with his newest project, Super, starring Rainn Wilson (The Office), as an everyday guy who is thrust into a extraordinary situation. The film is set to star Liv Tyler and Ellen Paige alongside Wilson.
It has now been announced that Kevin Bacon will be joining the cast, »

When Brittany Murphy died suddenly Sunday morning (December 20), she left behind an impressive body of work and a lot of fans wondering what cut her life so short. Similarly, the Hollywood community and her own family spent the asking questions and mourning the 32-year-old actress.
"Brittany was one of the sweetest people you will ever meet," "Scrubs" star Donald Faison said in a statement to MTV News regarding the actress, who co-starred with him in the 1995 hit "Clueless." "She had the voice of an angel and a genuine heart of gold. I'm very happy to have known and worked with such a special person. My heart goes out to all of her loved ones."

Writer-director James Gunn has been developing his new picture, Super, for years and the final pieces of the pre-production puzzle are finally falling into place with the addition of another lead actor and a new producer. According to Screen Daily, Amanda Marshall of Ambush Entertainment has joined the production team and Kevin Bacon has signed on to star opposite Rainn Wilson.
Super tells the story of an ordinary man (Wilson) who puts on a superhero costume and goes out in search of the drug dealer (Bacon) who has charmed away his wife (Liv Tyler). First announced via his personal website back in September, Gunn said that Super is "not a spoof" of superhero movies, but rather a "dark, comedic, gritty, very unusual, and grounded film" with themes of "love, violence, perseverance, and faith."
Gunn was recently quoted as saying that Bacon is the perfect actor for the role of Jacques, »

What happened to Kevin Bacon? Back in the '90s he was a huge star, doing movies like Tremors, A Few Good Men and Apollo 13, but sometime in the past decade he kind of fell off the map, only showing up for roles in major films every few years, like Mystic River and Frost/Nixon. The most notable thing he's done in the past year was losing all of his money to Bernie Madoff. Perhaps that was for the best though, because now he needs to make his money back, and what better way than to have a major role in a superhero flick? ...Kind of. Screen Daily has discovered that Bacon has joined the cast of James Gunn's superhero comedy Super, which is currently filming in Louisiana. Bacon will play the film's main baddie, a slick drug-dealer named Jacques who gets a gets a woman hooked on drugs, »

I can’t think of Kevin Bacon as a supervillain, though he has been pretty disturbing in movies like The Woodsman. Director James Gunn does see him as a good bad guy, not only because he can play dark roles, but also because of his versatility in other movies. Gunn has just cast Bacon in Super, a superhero romantic comedy.

You may or may not have already heard about Slither director James Gunn's new project called Super (we wrote about it in September), but we've been following it anyway. The comedy is about an everyday guy who transforms himself into The Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, though he lacks the heroic skills. ScreenDaily has confirmed that Kevin Bacon is starring in the film as the villain Jacques, a smooth-talking drug dealer who steals the wife of our hero. Rainn Wilson stars as the main character Wilson and is also joined by Ellen Page and Liv Tyler. They just started shooting down in Shreveport, Louisiana this week. I can think of one popular parlour game that's about to get a tiny bit easier... James Gunn's Super is a very promising-sounding example of the "real world superheroes" subgenre that includes Special, Defendor and Kick-Ass. The film is currently shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana with Rainn Wilson starring as a would be superhero without any kind of powers who picks up a pipe wrench and decides to avenge... well, it begins with his wife cheating on him with a drug dealer called Jacques. The latest casting news is that the role Jacques has been filled, and he's going to be played by none other than Kevin Bacon. That's my opening night seat sold, right there. Talking to Screen Daily, James Gunn said: Kevin Bacon is one of the few actors nimble enough to give life to Jacques, our supervillain with a nice streak. We need to love Jacques even »

I've been looking forward to James Gunn following his wonderfully sticky Slither, and it sounds like he's mixing that movie's messy sensibilities with the kind of R-rated superhero satire he came up with in The Specials. His currently filming mega-violent action-comedy Super stars Rainn Wilson ("The Office") as an everyday dude who becomes a superhero to defend his lady (Liv Tyler), with the help of a kooky sidekick (Ellen Page). And now he has a nemesis: the link to all mankind, »

Screen Daily reports that Kevin Bacon has just signed on to play “Jacques” in James Gunn’s upcoming action-comedy flick Super Starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, and Liv Tyler. The character is described as “a smooth-talking drug dealer who steals the wife of an average guy played by Wilson, causing the latter to become a one-man crime-fighting force known as The Crimson Bolt.” When asked why he cast Bacon, Gunn said, “We need to love Jacques even while he’s doing horrible things - Kevin is one of the only actors I know who can pull that off.” I personally love the idea of Kevin Bacon playing a supervillain in a comedy, especially against Rainn Wilson. I’m also a bit surprised that Wilson, who provides serious comedic muscle to The Office, hasn’t broken out the way Steve Carell and John Krasinski have. As with most things, I blame The Last Mimzy. »

Now the planning of the nuptials is in full swing, and Fischer admits it's harder work than she ever imagined.
