In case you missed it: 'Saw VII 3D' date set

1 hour ago | screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news »

A quick peek at the IMDb page for Twisted Pictures' next "Saw" film "Saw VII 3D" shows David Hackl's film will open in theaters Oct. 22, 2010. And yes, as the title suggests, it will be shot and released in 3D.

Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton return to write the seventh installment in the horror series. As you may have heard already, an eighth film will also happen. In fact, we'll "Saw" films as long as they make money.

Now, "Saw VI," the latest sequel, really tanked at the box office (the total currently stands at $27 million domestically), and Lionsgate recently blamed it on "Paranormal Activity." What a lame excuse.

So yeah, look for more Jigsaw and co. next year... and the one after that... and maybe even the one after... »

Surprise! Saw VII Set For Release Next Halloween!

13 November 2009 1:54 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Saw VI didn't exactly live up to box office expectations, but that hasn't stopped Lionsgate from grabbing October 22, 2010 for Saw VII. Saw VII is already in pre-production, with David Hackl returning from Saw V to direct a script from Saw IV, V, and VI screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton.

Saw VII will follow the twisted adventures of Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor), with Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) returning in flashbacks. Bell already has an idea of what Jigsaw in 3-D will be like.

Saw VII (In 3D) Gets 2010 Release

12 November 2009 11:10 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

No matter how it silly it may seem that the Saw franchise has gone on for this long, it doesn’t stop them from making money and (I stress this word) consequentially making more. We reported back in July that Saw VII was already in the works before the sixth one came out (they’re pretty much automatic cash for the studio so they have no problem putting that kind of faith in it).

However, what wasn’t known at the time (either that, or it flew passed us quicker than we could catch it) was that the seventh installment of Saw would be in 3D. Yes, even the franchise that effectively kicked off the torture-porn phenomenon less than 10 years ago has jumped aboard the 3D bandwagon. And something tells me the technology isn’t going to be employed subtly (read: correctly)…

Saw VII Release Date!

12 November 2009 8:41 AM, PST | HorrorYearbook | See recent HorrorYearbook news »

You got excited just reading that, didn't you? Twisted Pictures has announced that the seventh installment of the beaten to death franchise will be released on October 22, 2010 (of course). As previously announced, it will also be in 3D. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, the writers of part six, will be back again as will the director of part five, David Hackl. Costas Mandylor who has played Hoffman since part three, has also been announced as returning. Don't be surprised if you hear from us about Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith returning for flashbacks. He's hoping this is the last nail in John Kramer's coffin, but probably not. »

Lionsgate Schedules "Saw VII" 3D Release

12 November 2009 6:04 AM, PST | www.ohmygore.com/ | See recent OhMyGore news »

"Saw VI" didn't exactly do huge business. The sixth installment has earned $26.6 million since opening on October 23. But when you're talking about a budget of just $11 million, and not having yet counted DVD and Blu-ray sales, what's there to stop them from moving forward with another one? And, according to ShockTillYouDrop.com, that's exactly what Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures are doing, scheduling an October 22, 2010 release for "Saw VII 3D". The next entry is written by returning screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. David Hackl is back in the director's chair. He helmed "Saw V".... »

3D "Saw VII" flick to open on October 22nd, 2010. Enough already please.

So, despite "Saw VI" bringing in less-than-impressive numbers compared to prior installments, the studio has decided to move forward with their 3D offering of "Saw VII" and release on October 22nd next year. Current film will still generate decent profit with an $11 million budget easily covered as the film has earned over $26 million so far and home entertainment value for these are always strong. David Hackl will return to the helm. The director piloted the fifth film. "Saw" films from Twisted Pictures always feature innovative, pain-inflicting devices which draw fans, however, "Paranormal Activity" turned out to be an unforseen nemesis for the distributor, topping the chart on the seventh film's opening weekend. »

Release Date for 'Saw VII' Announced

After releasing the latest installment of "Saw VI" in October this year, Lionsgate Films has moved forward with another sequel of the thriller film by announcing the release date for "Saw VII". According to Shock Till You Drop, the studio has claimed October 22, 2010 will be the day when the seventh "Saw" movie hits U.S. theaters.

As of late, "Saw VI" producer Mark Burg and co-writer Marcus Dunstan have said that "Saw VII" will be filmed in 3-D. "Saw, just by the way it's shot, lends itself to being a 3-D movie," Berg explained. "We saw a test that somebody did, a minute of Saw transferred from 2-D to 3-D and it looked great. We're not going to transfer VII, but we'll actually shoot it in 3-D. We want to be able to build the sets in a way that takes advantage of depth."

Saw VII 3D in the Works

11 November 2009 7:33 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Saw VI may not have been a big box office success, but that isn't stopping Twisted Pictures from beginning work on the next installment: Saw VII 3D, according to Fear Net. Here is what Tobin Bell had to say:

"It will be an interesting experience," said Bell. "I'll be doing the same thing. Possibly doing it differently, like saying, 'Reach out this way!' But I am going to be doing exactly what I always do. I am more concerned with the quality of the drama than I am in the special effects, I'll leave that to someone else. That's not my job. I'll be watching with interest and listening for good counsel from the 3-D techs, who I'm sure will be lingering around me."

"And I'll be saying, get away from me!'" he laughed.

David Hackl will direct the horror, while Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton are writing. »

Make a Date with Saw VII in 3D

11 November 2009 4:37 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

I almost feel bad for Saw VI. The flick delivered on all counts; yet, it performed really badly at the box office. We can only hazard a guess that the damage done by the abysmal Part V left audiences so cold that the new film was something they weren't going to bank on this year. David Hackl, director of Part V, now has a date for redemption with his new flick Saw VII 3D.

Can he pull it off, or should Kevin Gruetert (director of VI) been given another shot? Nothing against Hackl, but we're inclined to believe the latter. Gruetert proved he had the chops to get things back on track. At least writers Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton are back. Guess we'll find out what happens on October 22, 2010, as that's the date Lionsgate is circling for Saw VII 3D to invade theatres.

Lionsgate Looking to Lock Down October Date for 'Saw VII'

Lionsgate is looking to lock down an October 22, 2010 release for Saw VII in 3-D, with an official announcement forthcoming. David Hackl returns to the directors chair after getting behind the camera for the disappointing Saw V. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton (Saw IV-viii) are turning in the screenplay once again. While Saw VI was one of the best entires in the franchise, Paramount Pictures' Paranormal Activity caused some problems resulting in a tame $14m opening weekend. In fact, it's total $26m is still less than Saw V's opening weekend. D-yikes. Saw V is considered the worst in the franchise by many of our readers. »

Tobin Bell Talks 3-D in Saw VII

Pre-production on Saw VII has already begun ... so despite the poor box office for Saw VI, the Saw series is far from over. Saw VII will look to revitalize the franchise, at least financially, with the series stepping into 3-D territory for the first time. Tobin Bell spoke to Fearnet about what it will be like to bring Jigsaw to the third dimension.

It will be an interesting experience. I'll be doing the same thing. Possibly doing it differently, like saying, "Reach out this way!" But I am going to be doing exactly what I always do. Will Jigsaw Direct Saw VIII?

25 October 2009 1:43 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Saw III, IV, and V director David Hackl is in pre-production for Saw VII, but right now Saw VIII is resting in the planning stage with no director. Tobin Bell, Jigsaw himself, says that he may take the director's chair if it is offered.

They asked me about that, I don't know quite how sincerely. I told them it was way too much work. Directors are there forever. Actors, they come in, they do their scene, but directors.... Then when they get a break, that's the time for everybody to descend on them and say, "Oh, I'm glad you're free for a moment because we've got a major problem in costume." I appreciate my down time. I'm being a little tongue in cheek about that. The truth is that I really do want to direct one of these sometime. I'm just waiting for them to come to me again. I »

Saw VI's Kevin Greutart Reveals the Visual Style

The Saw family promotes from within. After production designer David Hackl got his directorial debut in Saw V, editor Kevin Greutart gets his with Saw VI. He found it easy to maintain the visual aesthetic of the franchise, because it was specifically scripted.

Kevin Greutart on Saw VI

.A lot of the look of the film is in the script down to details like .a yellow haze permeates the room,.. Greutart said. .We.ll actually put a yellow light bulb in and then in the final coloring, we.ll say, .Oh, we have the technology to turn it green. Let.s do it.. In general, I think [the writers] are very conscious of what their writing will look like.. »

More Planning, Big Gags Needed for Saw VII in 3-D

15 October 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

A bit more lead time is needed to create Saw VII , which is hitting theaters in October of 2010. Twisted Pictures producer Mark Burg told the press next year's entry is slightly more expensive and involves more pre-production. Why? Because it will be shot in 3-D with Saw V 's David Hackl back in the director's chair. Burg says he was impressed by a brief presentation he saw of the original Saw in 3-D and felt the series lent itself to the format. "It's worth it," he explains. "We want to be able to build the sets that take advantage of depth. We're going to design traps to come at you. The pendulum trap that opened the last movie would have been great in 3-D." He's excited by the prospect of the next entry and compares some of the gags... »

'Saw VII' 3D Will Be Authentic

Something that bothers me quite a bit is that Alex Aja's Piranha is being turned into a 3D movie during post-production. While some say it still looks great, I say it's a crock of sh*t. This afternoon Lionsgate he'd their "annual" Saw press day (for Saw VI) where producer Mark Berg was on hand to discuss the 3-D process for their forthcoming Saw VII, which is to be helmed by David Hackl (Saw V). "Saw, just by the way it's shot, lends itself to being a 3-D movie," producer Mark Berg tells IGN. "We saw a test that somebody did, a minute of Saw transferred from 2-D to 3-D and it looked great. How Far Will the Saw Series Go?

14 October 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

Rumors have run rampant. There will be nine Saw films. Ten. But the truth to just how far Jigsaw's legacy will go remains to be seen. Nearly a week out from the release of Saw VI , opening October 23, producer Mark Burg of Twisted Pictures informs us, "We're definitely making [part] seven. We're shooting in January and it's going to be in 3-D." But you already knew that. Returning to the director's chair for the seventh entry is David Hackl with a script by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. Beyond that, however? "The storyline that we started in five and carries through six ends in Saw VIII ," says Burg. "Where it goes beyond that I couldn't tell you. In my mind and Oren [Koules]' mind, we have the story threaded through part eight. I... »
