Last week, we reported that work is underway on a feature film based on T.J. Hooker, the 1980s TV show that stars William Shatner, Adrian Zmed, Heather Locklear, James Darren, Richard Herd, and Hugh Farrington. While the original series is a drama, the plan is to make this new movie a comedy.
Movie producer Ryan Heppe told Variety, "The series was the poster child for cop TV shows in the 1980s with great stunts, so we think there's a fun movie to be made from it."
The concept seems tailor made to include actors from the television show in some capacity and Heppe agrees. He told the New York Post, "We absolutely want to try and get the original cast in the movie."

Yet another William Shatner TV series is heading to movie theaters. This time, it's T.J. Hooker, the cop show executive produced by Aaron Spelling during his legendary run on ABC. Shatner didn't get to be in the recent Star Trek reboot, will he be in this movie?
T.J. Hooker revolves around a veteran cop (Shatner) who, after his plainclothes partner is killed in the line of duty, returns to the streets as a patrol sergeant. He's assigned to train academy recruits and is partnered with a young, headstrong rookie named Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed). Others in the series include Heather Locklear, James Darren, Richard Herd, and Hugh Farrington.
The series ran for two seasons on ABC as an hour-long drama before the alphabet network cancelled it. CBS then picked it up for two more seasons but assigned it to the late night "Crime Time After Prime-Time" schedule, running opposite The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. »

T.J. Hooker is primed to drop his pension and come out of retirement to resume patrol in a larger neighborhood. Variety is reporting David Foster and Ryan Heppe, currently working on another "why?" remake of Short Circuit, have teamed with series creator Rick Husky to produce a big screen version of T.J. Hooker as an "action comedy" centered around the title character and his father. T.J. Hooker ran five seasons and starred William Shatner as the venerable cop, a very blond Heather Locklear unafraid to don short shorts, Adrian Zmed, Richard Herd and James Darren. Someone stop the madness! Yet another '80s property is being prepped for the big screen: the William Shatner-fronted cop show T.J. Hooker! According to Variety [1], Chuck Russell (The Blob, Eraser, The Scorpion King) is in talks to direct, with the screenplay being penned by Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson (Tremors, Short Circuit, Ghost Dad). Hey wait a minute... maybe I'm interested in this after all. I must admit, I don't remember much about the TV show, which may have been just slightly ahead of my time (it ran from 1982 to 1986). It was produced by Aaron Spelling and in addition to the Shatman it also starred Heather Locklear, Adrian Zmed, James Darren and Richard Herd. Shatner played Thomas "T.J." Variety is reporting that "T. J. Hooker," the police drama television program famous in the 80s, will be made into big screen movie. While there have been no actors joining the cast of the adaptation just yet, several people have been on board to work on the installment.
The likes of David Foster, Ryan Heppe and series creator Rick Husky have all been tapped to produce "T.J. Hooker" film. The threesome will be working together with Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, both of whom will pen the script. Chuck Russell, who is best known for directing hit movies "The Mask" and "The Scorpion King," is still in talks to direct. Swat, Starsky & Hutch and Miami Vice have all jumped from television to the big screen. Now it looks like T.J. Hooker will be the next cop show to get remade into a feature film.
Brent Maddock and S.S. Wilson, who worked on Wild Wild West, will be scripting T.J. Hooker as an action comedy. Reports from Variety say the screenplay will focus on the relationship between the titular character and his father. No word yet if William Shatner, who portrayed Hooker in the TV show, might have a role.
