One tMF viewer, who is apparently a Megan Fox fan, once said 'Megan Fox is overrated as a celebrity but not as an actress.' That comment made me think: Is there really such a difference? Can't we judge someone who is a celebrity and an actress, and treat her as one and the same? She's just one person right?
- - -
- - - Here's exactly what our viewer said:
Megan Fox may be overrated as a "celebrity," but she is actually underrated, As An Actress.
She gets a ridiculously inordinate amount of criticism for her acting because the part of her career that made her famous was a part that focused on how attractive she was, not anything that could actually showcase any acting skills, »

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
The time circuits are on, the flux capacitor is fluxing and I'm gonna take today's Sick Day Stash on a journey through time with the help of "Back to the Future Part III." The movie may be the weakest entry in this venerable trilogy but it's by no means a weak movie. Dare I say it's 1.21 gigawatts of marvelous?
There's none of the holographic flash of "Back to the Future II," with its sleek vision of the future (Hoverboards! »

Jim Sturgess will be searching a strange parallel universe to find lost love Kirsten Dunst in Upside Down. According to Production Weekly, director Juan Diego Solanas is pairing the two actors up for his new alternate reality sci-fi indie pic.Dunst had apparently been in talks for a while, but Sturgess is a new twist, given that Emile Hirsch was being considered. So what's the pitch? Slash Film dug this synopsis out of the European Film Market listing for the movie: "Adam is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary...

I've been keeping an eye on Juan Diego Solanas' surreal-sounding sci-fi story Upside Down for a while now. The picture has been in development with Onyx films and Studio 37 for a good while, and has never quite got off of the starting blocks - perhaps due to its mind boggling central concept. Kirsten Dunst has been in talks to star for some months, I believe, but the news that Jim Sturgess will be taking on the male lead comes after earlier reports that Emile Hirsch was negotiating for the role. Sturgess is a real trade up from Hirsch, I think. Here's an official synopsis for the film from the 2009 European Film Market Brochure: Look up towards the sky and rub your eyes because you won’t believe what you see: cities, forests, and oceans with their own inverted gravity, only an arm’s length away, yet completely unreachable. - I jumped the gun earlier this year, thinking that Juan Solanas (Nordeste) was well on his way with his sophomore project, when in fact, no actors had signed on the dotted line. Today comes word (via Production Weekly) that the Argentinean/French filmmaker will start lensing his sci-fi romance with the pairing of Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kristen Dunst. Sturgess takes over for the role that Emile Hirsch was in negotiations for. I can't think of many examples where the blend of sci-fi and romance actually work - the last sample I saw was the overly-ambitious and tedious Mr.Nobody. Upside Down tells the story Adam is a seemingly ordinary guy in a very extraordinary universe. He lives humbly trying to make ends meet, but his romantic spirit holds on to the memory of a girl he met once upon a time from another world, an inverted »

Palm Springs International Film Festival has chosen the next recipient of its Rising Star Award. At a private event in Beverly Hills, festival chairman Harold Matzner announced that Anna Kendrick, the actress who portrays Bella's classmate Jessica in "Twilight", will be honored with the kudo when 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival is kicked off on January 5.
"Anna Kendrick is an extremely gifted young actress," Matzner explained. "At age 12, she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her role as Dinah in 'High Society.' She has gone from strength to strength with each succeeding screen roll. Given her striking, multifaceted performance in 'Up in the Air,' we are delighted to present her with the Festival's Rising Star Award."
The 24-year-old will be presented with the prize during the fest's Awards Gala, which will be hosted by "Entertainment Tonight's" Mary Hart, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. »

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

- - - Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?

Unless you work in a bank or the courthouse, chances are you're reading this at work on Columbus Day Monday. Many of the town’s boldfacers still treated it like a three-day weekend and hit the town for a full slate of events.
Jenna Elfman, Emile Hirsch and Sophia Bush hit the always A-list friendly Art of Elysium’s “Genesis” event at H.D. Buttercup on Saturday night. The nonprofit wrangles top talent to share their time and craft... »

Despite its rather notable shortcomings when compared to its obvious predecessor, 1983.s raunchy teen classic .Risky Business., I.ve always been a fan of Luke Greenfield.s .The Girl Next Door.. The affable performances from the pic leads Emile Hirsch and Elisha Cuthbert balance out the bawdiness nicely and it.s smarter than the cover would lead you to believe. Had the script by Stuart Blumberg and David T. Wagner & Brent Goldberg been tightened up just a bit, we might have been dealing with our direct answer to .Risky Business,. but a few glaring issues in plausibility and tone keep this firmly in the good category but not great. But I digress. After a fun opening montage set to Queen »
