'Twilight': Robert Pattinson admits he auditioned just to meet Kristen Stewart

"Twilight" star Robert Pattinson has admitted that he initially auditioned for the role of Edward Cullen because he wanted to meet -- and get to know -- Kristen Stewart.

"I had read the script and I barely knew that they were books, too. The only reason I went to the audition was to see Kristen because I had a huge crush on her," Pattinson tells a British website.

Well, mission definitely accomplished.

Now these two are the biggest unofficial couple in the universe.

How well he got to know Kristen remains a source of tremendous speculation. But the top male movie star (beating Johnny Depp!) insists that he's still unattached and on the market.

"Of course I had a crush on her, but we are just very good friends. I am young, free and single. I like people being forward. Gosh, I don't know. I like strong people."

Bryce Dallas Howard has revealed that she would love her father Ron Howard to direct her. The actress told Parade that she has enjoyed working with her dad as a producer on an upcoming movie. "I've never worked with him before," she explained. "I've always wanted to work with him and never imagined it would be in this capacity. He was great about supporting me as a producer. Interview: Jodie Markell on 'The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond'

14 hours ago | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

After honing her skills in front of the camera, actress Jodie Markell ("Big Love") chose to make her directorial debut with a rather daunting project that began, long before she was born, as a rare and long-forgotten film script by A Streetcar Named Desire playwright Tennessee Williams. Years after Williams' death, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond - conceived to be directed by Elia Kazan decades ago - marks the return of Southern Gothic romance to the big screen, full of Tennessee Williams's signature melodramatic flavor. (Read Jenni Miller's review here.)

The films alights on Fisher Willow (Bryce Dallas Howard), a spoiled Southern belle who returns from abroad on the eve of the Great Depression and bristles against the social ranks of Memphis high society, even as she attempts to re-enter it. The script has the markings of a Tennessee Williams story -- a mad heroine, romantic longing galore, »

Movie Reviews: “The Loss Of A Teardrop Diamond”

1 January 2010 10:51 AM, PST | Studio Briefing - Film News | See recent Studio Briefing - Film News news »

Arriving in a New York theater on the last day of the year in order to qualify for Oscar consideration, The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond has received mixed reviews from the city's critics, many of whom single out star Bryce Dallas Howard (the daughter of director Ron Howard) for particular praise or censure. She "ignites like a firecracker," comments Stephen Holden in the New York Times. Jack Coyle of the Associated Press says that she imbues her character "with an exciting mix of desperation, arrogance and sensitivity." On the other hand, Lou Lumenick in the New York Post writes that Howard "gives a performance as broad as a barn door." And Elizabeth Weitzman in the New York Daily News says that she "fits awkwardly" into her role and is miscast. As for the film itself, written decades ago by playwright Tennessee Williams, the A.P's Coyle says that it "does little to suggest the script's decades of neglect [were] unwarranted." But Rex Reed concludes in the New York Observer: "This is minor Tennessee Williams, but times are hard. I guess minor Tennessee Williams is better than no Tennessee Williams at all." »
