It's a slow week for casting news and there are no new films opening in wide release this Friday, but that doesn't mean there's nothing worth reporting on. With 2010 just days away (seriously, where did 2009 go?), studios are starting to release details on their upcoming movies and it's looking like 2010 could be a pretty incredible year at the box office. I'll have the breakdown on 2010's big comedy and action films soon, but in the meantime here's a batch of new photos from some of the movies hitting theaters in the next 12 months:

This past weekend there's been a bunch of talk regarding an Avatar sequel, and what such a film would be about. James Cameron has made it known from the start that he's envisioned an Avatar trilogy and even knows where the story will go (though I do not believe scripts are written at this point). Speaking to the La Times Hero Complex blog, Cameron alluded to the possibility of exploring other planets (or moons) in the next film, though that's about all we know right now. Just how long it would take to create a new film is another story, however a lot of the groundwork has already been set and assuming work begins soon, we could see an Avatar 2 within 3-4 years or sooner (we hope).
And speaking of hotly anticipated sequels that aren't already part of an existing franchise (after all, Avatar isn't a franchise yet), MovieTickets.com »

If you paid a visit to your local theater this week, you may have notice this poster banner for Dennis Dugan's upcoming comedy "Grown Ups," which stars Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider.
This one features original kid pictures of the lead actors - a cool promotional tool. It also seems to be the coolest thing about the whole movie, because its first trailer promises nothing but a lame comedy. The film opens June 25, 2010. »

Didn't we just see a young Adam Sandler in Funny People? If you went to the movies recently, you might've seen this new banner for Dennis Dugan's comedy Growns Ups starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, and David Spade. The banner has five very young-looking photos of all five of those comedians to make people interested in seeing how these five "friends" will act as grown ups. We featured the first teaser trailer for this back in November. While it wasn't a very long trailer, I thought it looked like it could be good. Even if you're not interested, it's still pretty cool seeing these photos. I wonder if they're real? Thirty years after their high school graduation, five friends reunite for a Fourth of July holiday weekend. When you.ve got a cast including Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade, you expect the trailer to be downright hilarious. Well, it was far from it, but maybe they.re saving the good stuff for the movie. Or am I being too hopeful? Grown Ups stars the four SNL alumni plus one as childhood friends and basketball teammates who reunite to honor their late coach. They pack up their impressively casted wives (Salma Hayek, Maria Bello and Maya Rudolph) and kids and head off to the lake house where they spent their younger days. The film is set to hit theaters June 25th and I.m looking forward to seeing this brand new poster showing off the stars way back when on billboards across the country. Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

The Adam Sandler comedy machine just keeps clanking on, with the actor/producer currently developing Pretend Wife.If he has his way, Sandler will be getting mock-hitched to Jennifer Aniston (what, Kevin James wasn't enough for him?) in a new romantic comedy. Aniston hasn't signed on yet, but few have ever refused the awesome power of the Sandler - and lived. The concept - wrapped in secrecy for now - is being dragged kicking and screaming from the guts of a script written by Allan Loeb and Tim Dowling, which was once known as Holiday In Hawaii. Now however, with its shiny new title, Sony is trying to lock in regular Sandler collaborator Dennis Dugan in to direct and if the deals can be hammered out, the studio wants to shoot early next year and pump that sucker out just before Valentine's Day 2011. »

Baby Lucille joins big sister Pearl Bailey, who was born October 2005. The couple recently just confirmed the birth to People magazine.

I am sorry to report that Kevin James in Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Seth Rogen in Observe and Report have started a phenomenon, because a new reality series called Mall Cops: Mall of America is coming to Tlc. This is what happens when two movies that are superficially related to each other get released in close chronological proximity.
Granted, the Mall of America is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) malls in America and there is likely more than a fair share of crimes that go on there during any given day. I just wonder if the show is going to hire its own criminals to commit felonies in the mall just to keep things interesting.
I can see it now: the season deals with standard problems like shoplifters and lost children until the season finale which ends in a hostage situation cliffhanger. Want to see the »

Adam Sandler's next yuk-fest doesn't hit theaters until next June, but Sony's giving the comedian's fans a sneak peek at "Grown Ups." Following a familiar plot line to Sandler's other blockbusters, the movie centers on a group of friends who are in a state of arrested development. This time, though, Sandler shares the screen with felllow SNL alums Chris Rock and David Spade. "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" co-star Kevin James is also on hand.

You know how comedies always pretty much blow their wad by giving away all the film’s funniest bits in the trailers in hopes of luring you into paying your hard-earned money to see them in theaters? Well it looks like the makers of “Grown Ups” is going in the other direction. Instead of making a trailer chock full of the movie’s best gags, this trailer is shockingly laughing in anything resembling comedy. Really, how can a movie with so many famous comedians look so horribly unfunny? It’s like these guys just got together and thought, “You know, let’s slap something together where we get paid to hang out and call it a movie!” When your best selling gag is the fat guy swinging into a tree and them falling down a hillside, you’re not even trying anymore. Featuring the horrendously wasted talents of Adam Sandler, »

Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider are starring in Dennis Dugan's new comedy "Grown Ups," and the first trailer for the film sucks big time. And I mean Big Time!
The story follows four old friends who haven't seen each other for decades and one day decide to reunite for a Fourth of July weekend. What a bad idea, because we get to watch them catch up and all.
As you can see in the trailer below, this one looks just like yet another ultra-lame slapstick comedy in which some good actors prove they have what it takes to pick a project everyone knows is going to stink. »

Columbia Pictures has released a teaser trailer for Grown Ups, a comedy (?) starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade, and Rob Schneider, who gets more lines this time. Also appearing are Salma Hayek, Steve Buscemi, Gary Busey, and Maria Bello.
It’s a wholly unfunny video that leaves you wondering what decade this is and wishing Chris Farley was still around. But hey, maybe people are dying for movies where Sandler is remarkably less funny than he was a decade ago or David Spade tries the same shtick. I’m glad Happy Madison Productions put together a little reunion of friends, but will it be any fun for the rest of us?
Here’s a synopsis followed by the trailer from Yahoo:

Why don't people in real life put on a costume, get a few gadgets and fight crime? Because the idea is completely bonkers. This flick based on a comic book by Mark Millar features a group of young people putting on the spandex and, as the title suggests, kicking some ass. This looks pretty cool, but we'll find out for sure on April 16.
Brendan Fraser stars as a father whose children are dying from a genetic disorder. Desperate to save them he funds the work of an eccentric but brilliant researcher (Harrison Ford) in hopes of finding a cure. I suspect this will be a good old fashioned tear-jerker. If that's your cup of tea you can check it out on January 22.

Suddenly, it's the plot du jour: Old friends, younger wives, and even younger children get together on a vacation. Sometimes, it leads to a Guitar Hero commercial. Sometimes, it leads to Murder! And sometimes, as in the case of the Adam Sandler comedy Grown Ups (which just debuted its trailer), it leads to a Saturday Night Live cast reunion. Sandler and his SNL cronies David Spade, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider team up in the film with Kevin James, who unexpectedly had a bigger hit this year than any of them. »
