Jessica Biel talks A-team and Dwayne Johnson talks Witch Mountain Sequel, Tooth Fairy, Jonny Quest and Namor The Submariner

22 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Earlier today I attended the press day for Sony’s new animated movie Planet 51 and in attendance were Jessica Biel, Dwayne Johnson and Justin Long.  While I’ll have a transcript of the entire press conference in the coming days, since Jessica Biel talked about The A-Team and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave updates on a possible Witch Mountain sequel, Tooth Fairy, Jonny Quest and Namor the SubMariner, I figured you’d like to read what they had to say tonight.

While I’d love to report major news on any of the movies, it seems nothing is happening on a Witch Mountain sequel, Jonny Quest, or Namor the SubMariner.  But the best news came from Jessica Biel who made it sound like The A-Team might be a lot of fun.  Hit the jump for exact quotes:

Q: Can you tell us anything about The A-Team?

Jessica Biel: It’s going really well. »

Dan Aykroyd, Anna Faris and Justin Timberlake Join Yogi Bear

6 November 2009 7:45 AM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Live action/CG family comedies for everyone! That's right, yet another hybrid animated film is moving forward this week, with the announcement of some pretty big names entering discussions for the Warner Brothers adaptation of the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon Yogi Bear. It looks like the studio has found voices for both Yogi and Boo-Boo, plus an actress for their first live action role. According to Variety [1], Dan Aykroyd is currently in talks to headline the film as the mischievous bear Yogi, while musician turned actor Justin Timberlake will play his faithful sidekick Boo-Boo. Anna Faris will play a documentary filmmaker who comes to Jellystone Park. Aykroyd in particular seems like a solid choice, although I'm wondering whether or not Timberlake will try to put on a cartoony voice or just be himself (he previously voiced a character in Shrek the Third). The Yogi Bear script was written by the same »

Monthly Movie Preview – November 2009 … A Christmas Carol, 2012, The Twilight Saga: New Moon and more

3 November 2009 5:34 AM, PST | The Scorecard Review | See recent Scorecard Review news »

It’s the holidays. We know this because the movies tell us so. This year they waited exactly one week after Halloween to start the Christmas fare with Jim Carrey’s A Christmas Carol. But even though the month starts with Christmas, the movie month plays out just like Thanksgiving.

At first, we’re given an array of wonderful treats that’s we’ll happily gobble up like George Clooney in The Men Who Stare at Goats or George Clooney in the stop-motion Wes Anderson movie Fantastic Mr. Fox. Plus, teenage girls and a few others, will have their vampire appetites filled with The Twilight Saga: New Moon. But then, just like Thanksgiving, you gorge a little too much. And even though you’re full, you look around for something more to eat … and that’s when Old Dogs seems to be your only option.

Michael Jackson’s This Is It topped the box office over the Halloween weekend with an estimated $21 million. The concert film has made $32 million in the Us in the five days since it opened. Paranormal Activity scared-up another $16.5 million over the spooky weekend giving the $11, 000 budgeted film a mind-boggling $84.7 million total. Ka-ching!

trailer break: ‘Planet 51’

29 October 2009 8:40 AM, PDT | www.flickfilosopher.com | See recent FlickFilosopher news »

I love the idea of the humans as the aliens -- nice about face of the usual. Of course, the aliens aren’t really alien; culturally, they’re not alien at all. But we can expect but baby steps in the evolution of big-budget cinematic science fiction. This could be the ultimate in colorblind casting: Dwayne Johnson is supplying the voice of the square-jawed Nordic blond astronaut. I’m not sure why the astronaut couldn’t have been square-jawed, dark-haired, and Polynesian, like Johnson, but I guess that wouldn’t have been quite as effective as the stereotype of the Right Stuff jock flyboy. Planet 51 opens in the U.S. on November 20, and in the U.K. on December 4. »

29 October 2009 1:20 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Anne Heche, whose career over the last few years has been largely TV-based, is heading back onto the big screen with roles in two big upcoming comedies: Cedar Rapids, with The Hangover's Ed Helms, and The Other Guys, with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. In Cedar Rapids, Helms is a small-town insurance salesman headed to a company convention to try to save his colleagues' careers, and Heche plays the female lead, a fellow agent who befriends him when his trip goes wrong. In The Other Guys, she'll play the company head who hires Ferrell and Wahlberg's cops to examine losses in her company. We're guessing they're well out of their depth there. Adam McKay is directing The Other Guys, which also stars Eva Mendes, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Dwayne Johnson. Billy Bob Thornton To Go Faster

28 October 2009 1:20 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Billy Bob Thornton will go up against Dwayne Johnson in the action thriller, Faster – a movie that became a lot more intriguing today, with the release of further plot details. In an act of ultra-stylisation that recalls the stark, pared-down style of Walter Hill’s The Driver, Johnson will play a character called, simply, Driver, who’s out to avenge the murder of his brother.Thornton will play a cop called, if you haven’t already guessed, Cop, who makes it his business to take Driver down and bring him in etc. etc.A third pivotal character – Killer, a hitman hunting down Driver – has yet to be cast.Of course, this could be a noir-ish conceit too far, but we rather like the metaphorical balls on display here. Certainly, all the signs are that Faster aims to move like a rocket, with no time for little things like characterisation and back story. »

Casting Notes: Billy Bob Thornton Goes Faster with The Rock; Dannny Huston Seeks Justice for Lincoln Assassination; Jovovich Joins Psycho Thriller

27 October 2009 10:50 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The casting news tonight is all over the place: First we have Billy Bob Thornton teaming up with Dwayne Johnson in Faster, a George Tillman Jr. (Men of Honor, Notorious) action drama vehicle. Johnson will star as Driver, an ex-con out for revenge  following his brother's murder. Thornton plays Cop, a (you guessed it) police officer tailing Driver. There's also Killer, a hitman who's after Driver for some reason (my god, maybe he killed Driver's brother?!). The latter role remains uncast. Danny Huston has signed on to Robert Redford's period drama, The Conspirator, as a prosecutor in the Lincoln assassination trial. The film will specifically center on Mary Surratt, portrayed by Robin Wright Penn, who was infamous as the lone female co-conspirator in the assassination. Huston will also be joined by James McAvoy as Fredrick Aiken, Surratt's reluctant defense lawyer, as well as Justin Long, Tom Wilkinson, and Kevin Kline. »

Billy Bob Thornton Moves Faster in George Tillman Jr’s Upcoming Action-Drama Starring Dwayne Johnson

27 October 2009 10:44 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Taking a break from making radio talk show hosts uncomfortable, Billy Bob Thornton has signed on to play opposite Dwayne Johnson in the upcoming action/drama (you’ll get all of the action and none of the fun!) Faster.  Thornton was most recently seen in the action/unintentional-comedy flick “Eagle Eye”.  While he was also in “The Informers” which came out after “Eagle Eye”, no one saw “The Informers” so it doesn’t count.  Hit the jump for details on the plot for “Faster”, a movie that doesn’t believe in crap like “names”.

I already knew the logline for “Faster” (”an ex-con is bent on avenging the death of his brother, who was murdered 10 years earlier when the two were double-crossed during a heist.”) but I assumed it was just a generic, forgettable action film that further diminished Johnson’s once-glowing potential.  Instead, here’s how Variety describes the plot:
