Interview: Jeff Bridges On Crazy Heart

14 December 2009 7:19 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Jeff Bridges is one of Hollywoods most successful actors and is now staring in "Crazy Heart," a story about broken down country singer Bad Blake. The film revolves around Blake's life on the road from sleeping in sleazy motels to playing at beer joints and bowling alleys. While living in the shadows of his young and successful protege played by Colin Farrell, Bad Blake must come to terms with his limitations. But that all changes when he falls harder then usual for Santa Fe journalist Jean Craddock played by Maggie Gyllenhaal. Crazy Heart is based on the novel by Thomas Cobb and features original songs by T Bone Burnett.I had the chance to sit down and talk with Jeff Bridges about his Oscar worthy performance. He spoke to us about playing and singing in the film, about the similarities in the ways both actors and musicians live, working and performing with Colin Farrell, »

Poster and first still for Tron: Legacy

9 December 2009 11:30 AM, PST | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

As a child of the 80s I loved Steven Lisberger's Tron. It was one of those films that you never had to defend to your friends because it just seemed universally cool when it came out. It usually played in the background of many a birthday bash, though it usually took a back-seat to Empire Strikes Back if I remember correctly.

The strange thing is, unlike with most films from my childhood that get remade, the idea of a new Tron doesn't fill me with dread at all and I think it's because the concept feels more apropos today than ever. It's also why you can expect me to cover the film here on Quiet Earth.

Synopsis:

Inside the Encom computer system, a program called Clu, created by Kevin Flynn during the original fight against the Master Control Program, has been causing chaos and destruction across the grid. Sean Flynn, »

Jeff Bridges Interview, Crazy Heart

6 December 2009 8:00 PM, PST | MoviesOnline.ca | See recent MoviesOnline news »

Four-time Academy Award nominee Jeff Bridges stars as the richly comic, semi-tragic romantic anti-hero Bad Blake in the debut feature film Crazy Heart from writer-director Scott Cooper.

Bad Blake is a broken-down, hard-living country music singer who’s had way too many marriages, far too many years on the road and one too many drinks way too many times. And yet, Bad can’t help but reach for salvation with the help of Jean (two-time Golden Globe nominee Maggie Gyllenhaal), a journalist who discovers the real man behind the musician. As he struggles down the road of redemption, Bad learns the hard way just how tough life can be on one man’s crazy heart.

Fueled by country rock, Crazy Heart also stars Robert Duvall and features original songs from Grammy-winning and Academy Award-nominated composer and producer T Bone Burnett along with the late Texas songwriter Stephen Bruton.

Jeff Bridges Talks Crazy Heart and Tron Legacy

4 December 2009 7:07 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Jeff Bridges has made a career out of playing diverse characters, and two of his upcoming roles — broken-down country singer Bad Blake in Crazy Heart and his reprisal of Flynn in the sequel Tron: Legacy — further showcase his eclectic taste. Bridges told InContention that Crazy Heart was a "dream come true." The movie is already garnering Bridges some Oscar buzz, something Bridges seems relieved never to have won.

The four times I've been nominated, when they call somebody else's name you say, "Wow, I don't have to get up there, man." You would think being an actor for as long as I've been that I could get up in front of people and give a speech, but no, I'm just as nervous as anyone. So it's kind of a relief. I'm excited just to draw attention to this movie that I had such a great time on and I think is so good. »

Jeff Bridges talks Tron Legacy and Confirms He’s Making True Grit With the Coen Brothers

2 December 2009 5:09 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Today was the Los Angeles press day for Fox Searchlight’s Crazy Heart.  While we’re going to have a lot of interviews with the entire cast next week, we also participated in a roundtable interview with Jeff Bridges, and were able to get some questions in on Tron Legacy and the Coen Brothers’ True Grit.

The first bit of news is Bridges confirmed he’s making True Grit with the Coens.  While we were not able to ask any follow ups as it was the very end of the interview, this is a pretty good sign that True Grit is their next project.

Of course we also talked Tron Legacy, and for what he had to say on one of next year’s biggest movies, hit the jump:

Remember to check back next week for full interviews with the entire cast.

Brief Glimpse At The Tron: Legacy Video Game

24 November 2009 10:15 PM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Spike TV's newest promotional spot for their upcoming video game awards is all about Tron. Producr Steven Lisberger gave me the exclusive scoop on a Tron: Legacy video game being in the works back in September but there haven't been any screenshots or footage shown since. It looks like we'll be getting at least a glimpse of what the upcoming game will look like. If you ever played Tron 2.0 for the PC, you'll probably be familiar with how the game will more than likely look, with updated graphics, etc. etc. etc. This new game, which will probably be for every system But the PC (we PC guys have been getting the shaft lately) looks pretty cool. Not sure what stage of development they're in, when it's supposed to come out (details that I'm sure will be announced at the show) or the type of gameplay, but if it's anything like Tron 2.0, »

Tron Legacy Producer Talks About the Impact of Technology

31 October 2009 5:56 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

When a sequel to an effects-heavy movie is made 27 years after the original, it's assumed that the technological advances in effects would give the sequel a much different look — especially when it's arriving in 3-D and features "groundbreaking technology".

In a recent interview with GameRevolution, however, producer Sean Bailey explained that Tron Legacy won't stray far from the original design — until the action begins.

The great thing is that the design is relatively timeless, but the ability we had effects-wise, action-wise, the speed we can move the Light Cycles at — we thought we could deliver just an incredible ride, an action movie, a science-fiction movie. We have the benefit of all this great design. I'm pretty confident that for all ages, this is going to be a rock 'n' roll ride, here. It's going to be a lot of fun.

Tron Legacy Producers Talk Disc Tourneys & Light Cycles

29 October 2009 4:02 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Chris Hudak of GameRevolution had the chance to sit down and chat with Tron Legacy producers Steven Lisberger and Sean Bailey at the D23 Expo in Anaheim. The wide-ranging interview touched on a number of aspects of the film, including the film’s look, its tone, and its music. I’ve excerpted some of the juicier segments below. For the full interview, visit GameRevolution.

Steven Lisberger on the tone of Tron Legacy:

“The tone of first film reflects a certain naïve idealism. This film reflects the temperament of Joe Kosinski, our director, our young writers, and Sean Bailey, my fellow producer – those who have a more realistic point of view of the upsides and downsides of technology and cyberspace.”

Sean Bailey on matching the “newness” of the original Tron:

“The great thing is that the design is relatively timeless, but the ability we had effects-wise, action-wise, the speed »

Interview: 'Tron' Director & 'Tron: Legacy' Producer Steven Lisberger

14 September 2009 7:20 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

It will have been 28 years after the original Tron when Tron: Legacy arrives, but the nearly three-decade gap hasn't dulled Steven Lisberger's enthusiasm for the project. He wrote and directed the first movie, spending much of his own money in the development process, until he and his team finally found a studio to say yes. Even after that, it wasn't easy getting the movie made. People were skeptical about using computers to do special effects, and, in the end, Tron failed to win a special effects Oscar ... because the Academy said they "cheated" by using computers. Oh, the irony.

These days, Lisberger more closely resembles The Dude, Jeff Bridges' character in The Big Lebowski. He has long hair, a bushy goatee, and a very laid-back attitude about life. He doesn't give short, bite-sized, media-ready answers that the internet loves, but instead he takes the time to pause »

Tron guy's Soul Code

Tron Legacy: High-definition trailer plus latest on casting

3 August 2009 5:57 AM, PDT | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Back in 1982, Disney's virtual-reality sci-fi adventure Tron seemed like a cutting-edge concept.

It's still way ahead of what can be achieved with real-world digital technology so it's no wonder the movie retains its cult status.

At this year's San Diego Comic-Con, interest in the sequel - now revealed to be called Tron Legacy - looked just as strong.

As I already reported, there was no new footage to show this year (filming on Legacy has only just wrapped) but the preview from last year's Comic-Con was screened again, this time converted into high-definition 3D.

This new HD trailer with its thrilling light-cycle race is now available online and I've included it above. Never have neon motorbikes looked so good...

To put the franchise into context, the original came out two years after Pac-Man was released on the world's arcades and a year after the arrival of Donkey Kong, the game that introduced us to Mario. »

Comic-Con: The "Tron Legacy" Panel

28 July 2009 7:53 AM, PDT | ifc.com | See recent IFC news »

"If you guys are anything like me, I like to know as little about a film that I want to see as possible," said Jeff Bridges at the panel for "Tron Legacy," the much-anticipated sequel to the 1982 film "Tron." One imagines that Bridges is somewhat missing the point of Comic-Con with a statement like that, but he did go on to share that the film is about "a son's search for his father," and that everything is going to be "superized."

Patton Oswalt moderated the panel, which featured Bridges and co-star Olivia Wilde, director Joseph Kosinski and producers Sean Bailey and Steven Lisberger (who helmed the original "Tron") -- watch video highlights below.
