‘Star Wars’ Lets Out A Yowl In Today’s eBay Prop-Watch

6 July 2009 11:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Welcome back to eBay Prop-Watch! I hope you’ll all forgive my absence at the end of last week. While eBay is always popping with cool movie-related crap to buy, someone needs to be here to actually write it up. Not that today’s selection needs any real introduction.

Star Wars” is one of those franchises that is particularly well-suited to pleasing prop collectors. For those who are willing to shell out often-considerable amounts of cash, there’s a lot out there to be had. The item I selected for today’s eBay Prop-Watch actually falls on the cheaper side of real-deal “Star Wars” props, though the “cool” factor renders it absolutely priceless as far as I am concerned. If I hadn’t just moved, you can bet I’d buy this one without a second’s thought.

It’s… Chewie’s Fur!!! Sure, it’s only a few strands. »

Boos! and Whoop-doos!: The Epic Origins of a Future Summer

The Origin Film? Whoop-doo!

The origin film has dominated the box office for most of May. We learned how Wolverine got his claws, how James T. Kirk came to captain the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, how John Connor came to lead the Resistance, and how Robert Langdon settled for that goofy-ass hairdo. Despite these tales being repetitive and unnecessary, they've pulled in record grosses. Some have been enthralling; others have left their fans irate. But all have been successful on some level. That can only mean one thing in Hollywood: More of the same. For each origin film that tops $100 million in ticket sales, another five are being placed into production. Why are they so popular? Because they breed familiarity. They are an easy sale item. Even though we know these epic myths and legends by heart, that won't stop some lofty director from churning them out »

22 May 2009 3:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

What are you doing this weekend? Actually, don’t answer that. I’ll tell you what you’re doing this weekend. As a Memorial Day weekend treat and lead-in to this Sunday’s episode of ‘Behind the Screen,’ MTV will be running all six “Star Wars” movies between Saturday and Monday. If you’ve seen George Lucas’s epic space fantasy, then you know exactly why you should be tuning in. If you don’t… well… here are all the reasons you need to settle in with some popcorn for a long, lazy weekend in front of the TV.

The Fall of Anakin Skywalker

Hardcore “Star Wars” fans like me have some issues with George Lucas’s approach to the most recent trilogy, starting with 1999’s “The Phantom Menace.” Wherever your opinions fall with regards to the new movies, it’s hard to say a foul word against Anakin Skywalker »

Boos! and Whoop-doos!: Summer Movie Toys!

Summer movie action figures? Boo!

Do adults still play with toys? Back in the mid-nineties, Kenner decided to re-release its long dormant line of Star Wars action figures. Suddenly and without warning, the local Toys R Us was infiltrated with grown men climbing over shelves, beating each other up to grab a shiny, new C3PO doll. He was the short-boxed figure, and the only normal looking character of the bunch. Kenner had decided to give its once powerful toy line a He-Man makeover, and these things were pretty ridiculous. Luke had cantaloupe pecs and a six-pack. Chewbacca, portrayed on screen by the curiously thin Peter Mayhew, now looked like a Muscle Beach body builder with a slight back hair problem. And Han Solo? His upper torso resembled the Michelin Man, with a waist by way of Megan Fox. Add in his Polio feet, and the fact that he couldn't stand on his own, »
