The original Predator inspired more American Film Market-screened knockoffs than just about any other movie, and the word on the street here at the sales event is that the upcoming Robert Rodriguez production Predators will also jumpstart a whole new stream of human-vs.-aliens movies. And those who gotten a look at the Predators screenplay have been raving.
These sources tell Fango that this sequel ignores Predator 2 as well as both Alien Vs. Predator movies, and is a direct sequel to the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starrer. The script, by Michael Finch, Alex Litvak and Rodriguez, not only takes place on Earth, but its human characters also travel to the Predators’ planet to hunt the extraterrestrials. We will see new species—including Predator dogs!—and there’s going to be a Berserker Predator, the meanest badass of them all. And in some surprising FX news, Knb Efx’s Howard Berger and »

The creator of the landmark cable series talks about the new Complete Series DVD set, Terriers and more.
Back in 2002, a series aired that changed the face of television and became my favorite TV series of all time - Hands Down - The Shield. For seven seasons I was absolutely riveted by the exploits of the Strike Team in the fictional Los Angeles district of Farmington, and that of their leader Vic Mackey, played to utmost perfection by Michael Chiklis. Sadly, the TV series came to an end last fall, with a series finale that is, in my opinion, the single best series finale in TV history ( to read my farewell piece to this amazing series) and now viewers can relive the TV magic with The Shield: The Complete Series, which hits the shelves in a massive 28-disc set on November 3. I was fortunate enough to have an exclusive »

Lots of Snow and Juggalos
Sometimes I go to a faraway convention and say to myself, “This was well worth the trip.” Whether it be a long flight or car trip (not interrupted by hitting a deer, preferably), with weather variables, travel obstacles and bleary-eyed exhaustion added to the mix, the convention at the center of it all pays off. Such was the case with the Rock and Shock Weekend in Worcester, Ma that I attended on October 18th. Even with one aborted interview, a wet snowstorm and a bevy of Juggalos, I can’t help but smile at the thought of this con.
Along for the ride were my cantankerous buddy John (he used to go by Brando) who I’ve known since high school, and a more recent friend Jonathan, who’s as much a staple on the circuit as some of the guests. Each of us had »

After doing this for roughly nine years, I'm finding there are two extremes when it comes to stars in franchise horror films. With the exception of Derek Mears (a mega-hardcore Friday the 13th fan), most stars have either never seen the source material, or straight-up lie and claim to be a huge fan. There's typically no inbetween. The NY Post Pop Wrap caught up with Connie Britton, who plays Nancy's mother in the forthcoming A Nightmare On Elm Street remake who reveals she had never seen the original (how? How?!). "You are going to be shocked to hear this: I'd never seen "Elm Street" before we started shooting. Isn't that funny?" adding that it was her intention to give her a fresh take on the character. Brad Fuller is a producer who likes to stay connected with his fans. He keeps his Twitter account updated regularly about what he's got going on at Platinum Dunes. Today, he offered a tweet about A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th Part 2 that was short and sweet: "On the mixing stage working on Noes. Still hoping for some good news that will take us back to Crystal Lake." A Nightmare on Elm Street opens on April 30, 2010. Friday the 13th Part 2 is said to be arriving next August. Derek Mears is back to play Jason, but presently the project has not been given the official green light yet. »

This week:
Over the weekend the box office Saw some Paranormal Activity; Carl Ellsworth was hired by Paramount but he wants C.O.D (Cash On Delivery); True Blood’s Ryan Kwanten is Griff the Invisible; Derek Mears gears up for Predators and Laura Dern Meets Stiller and family.
Wow. It looks like the Saw franchise has finally come to a grisly end. The sixth film in the horror franchise opened with 50% less than what was predicted, earning a not-so-good $14.7 million. The film probably only cost about $15 million to make, but this poor gross means that it’ll have to have some serious overseas takings to make new installments viable.
The flipside to Saw’s demise was the $22 million that Paranormal Activity took over the weekend - from a thousand less screens than Saw!
With a cost of approximately $11,000 (yeah, you read that right) it looks like Oren Peli’s »

The cast of Robert Rodriguez's Predator reboot runs a weird gamut from highbrow-- Adrien Brody-- to lowbrow-- Danny Trejo-- with a lot of room left in the middle-- Topher Grace, good to see you! But chalk one up today for the lowbrow team, as Derek Mears, a.k.a. the new face of Jason in that Platinum Dunes reboot of Friday the 13th, has signed on to join the madness. Shock Til You Drop, which broke the news, isn't saying who he'll be playing, but there's reason to speculate he'll have his face shrouded again in costume as one of the Predators that Brody's team must defeat. Mears did a good job of being intimidating with nothing but his body in Friday the 13th, and I imagine they're looking for that skill from the actors hired to be inside the Predator suits. Sure, it's possible he'll be playing a human, »

Now that's more like it! After hearing that Adrien Brody and Topher Grace were set to star in Robert Rodriguez's Predators we were all a bit worried. But then Danny Trejo joined the cast, which seemed a step in the right direction, and now we have another bit of news that amplifies that sentiment. Jason himself, Derek Mears, will be stomping around the alien jungles as well. The question now is, what will he play? A Predator or a prey? Of the rumored characters in the script, I could see him... »

Friday the 13th killer Derek Mears is used to murdering people as Jason Voorhes. Now he may do some good ‘ol’ fashioned killin’ on the predators home-world in the upcoming sci-fi feature Predators.
Director Nimrod Antal has added Mears to the cast of, let’s be honest, a group that was originally less than thrilling when it was announced. Robert Rodriguez, who is producing the film, revealed that Adrien Brody, Topher Grace and Machete star Danny Trejo are the film’s first cast members. It’s not known whether Mears will be playing one of the humans that wind up on the alien world to be hunted or if he will be playing a predator.
“People were talking for a couple of weeks, but I wasn’t able to confirm,” Mears told Dread Central. “I kept assuring the filmmakers that I was not the leak. Now it’s out there, »

Derek Mears will go from masked slaughter to alien war, as he's joining the cast of Nimrod Antal's Predators. He brings some much needed muscle bulk to a movie that will see Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Danny Trejo, Walton Goggins and Alice Braga as a tough team of humans kidnapped by the dreadlock-sporting nasties for their hunting pleasure. And according to Film School Rejects, the movie will also feature a bigger, badder command Predator who our heroes will have to face. Could that be Mears' role? He certainly knows how to stalk and...

Earlier today, Robert Fure wrote about Robert Rodriguez's upcoming Predators movie, calling it out as one film that could really use an awesome big boss fight at the end. This comes on the heels of the announcement that the film will include the presence of a big super Predator who will be large and in-charge. And I'm right there with him -- bring on the big boss fight. Along with said revelation, we also now know (thanks to Shock Till You Drop) who else might be standing alongside badasses Adrien Brody and Topher Grace when they go up against the legion of Predators. None other than Jason Voorhees himself, Derek Mears. The Nimrod Antal (Armored) directed film has been looked at sideways by fans online for weeks now, ever since the likes of Grace and Brody were announced as part of the Predator-hunting brigade. Danny Trejo wasn't enough to make us believe that this film »

Actor Derek Mears confirmed at this past weekend’s Rock and Shock convention that he’ll be joining the cast of the Robert Rodriguez-produced Predators—but what about reprising his role of Jason in the 3-D Friday The 13th Part 2, for which Warner Bros. (which distributes for New Line Cinema) has announced a debut of Friday, August 13, 2010? Fango chatted briefly with the actor at the con about where that sequel’s at.
“Warner Bros. announced that release date,” Mears tells us, “but I’ve been talking to [producing company] Platinum Dunes, and we’re still not greenlighted yet. So they can’t offer any roles to anybody because we’re not officially [a go project]. I don’t claim to understand what goes on on the studio side, but I get most of my information on the Internet like everyone else, so it’s kind of amusing when I get asked questions and I have no answer to them! »

Derek Mears has joined the cast of Predators, the Fox reboot of the franchise being produced by Robert Rodriguez and directed by Nimrod Antal.
Dread Central reports that the 37-year-old actor, best known for playing masked serial killer Jason Voorhees in the remake of Friday the 13th, confirmed his Predators role at the Rock and Shock convention in Massachusetts.
Mears said: "People were talking for a couple of weeks but I wasn't able to confirm. I kept assuring the filmmakers that I was not the leak. Now it's out there, but I'm still not saying who I play."
Also cast are Adrien Brody, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Walt Goggins, Oleg Taktarov, Topher Grace, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali and Louiz Ozawa.
The film will be a direct sequel to the original Predator movie in 1987, ignoring its 1990 follow-up and the two crossovers with the Alien series.

Predators just seems to keep on rolling doesn’t it? In the latest piece of casting news for the film, Derek Mears, better known as Jason Voorhees in this year’s Friday the 13th remake has been cast in the Robert Rodriguez-produced sci-fi sequel.
Directed by Nimrod Antal, Predators already has a strong cast including the likes of Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, and Louiz Ozawa. Mears is expected to join the group as a Predator, and given the man’s size and build that’ll be one hell of a Predator that the humans have to contend with – fantastic!
The actor confirmed rumours at a horror convention earlier this week, according to Shock Till You Drop. Now all we need is to start seeing some set photos and leaked images to really get the juices flowing!
