Gone in a Flash: Sam Worthington and Ryan Reynolds Not up for Flash Gordon

In May 2008, a new big-screen remake of Flash Gordon was announced after Sony and producer Neil Moritz acquired the rights.

Breck Eisner was hired to direct the feature and in April this year he promised us he would steer away from the campness of the 1980 version, which starred Sam J Jones and is best known for its theme song by Queen and for Brian Blessed flying around as the prince of the Hawkmen.

Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless were hired as writers. The duo have also penned Dracula Year Zero, to be directed by Alex Proyas.

Nothing more was heard about Flash Gordon until showbiz gossip site Hollyscoop recently reported that Sam Worthington was up against Ryan Reynolds for the lead role of Flash.

The site claimed a source had said: "Right now it's between Sam, Ryan Reynolds and one or two others for the lead role should the project actually get off the ground. »
