A Perfect Getaway (Sam's Film Review)

Often times, Fango and other sites of a similar nature will cover and review films that skirt the very edges of horror and don’t fall neatly into the genre. A Perfect Getaway is definitely one such film. While more easily and probably correctly described as a thriller, it is however, definitely a lot of fun and on one or two occasions, features little nasty bits of violence and comedy.

Getaway, isn’t a huge film, it’s pretty contained, taking place on an island in Hawaii that serves as a paradise of stunning beaches, coves, rainforests and a scenic trail that at times is difficult to navigate. Cydney and Cliff (Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn) have elected to spend their honeymoon on this island of Kaua’i, hoping for much alone time in the outdoors. Greg Cannom - A Master of Make-up FX

Next door to the Los Angeles Korea Town, up on the third floor of a building on Wilshire Boulevard, some of the finest makeup artists in the city train and are trained at the Cinema Make-Up School. While it may not be as prominently advertised or as large as many other schools specialized in movie make-up, it has the reputation to attract one of the industries leading artists: Greg Cannom.

While anyone familiar with the artform is no doubt very aware of Cannom’s past work, even the neophyte has witnessed his work many times before in films such as Watchmen, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Lost Boys (pictured on the cover of Fangoria #66) Hannibal, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (for which Cannom received his fourth Oscar). Motivated by the work of Dick Smith and William Tuttle, Cannom got started in the industry working with the likes of Rick Baker and Smith himself. »

Emmy Nominations Reveal Few Surprises

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.

Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer  were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.

MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.

Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as »

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the nominations for The 61st Annual Primetime Emmy Awards this morning. NBC comedy series 30 Rock lead the way with 22 nominations with the HBO telefilm Grey Gardens with 17 nominations and last year's winner for Best Drama, Mad Men, with 16 nominations.
