Longtime artistic collaborators Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner recently weighed in with their preferred actress to portray the lead character in “The Pro,” a proposed live-action adaptation of their 2002 graphic novel with writer Garth Ennis.
“The Pro”—a comedy which follows the misadventures of a prostitute who gains superpowers and reluctantly joins a superteam—has been in development as a potential animated series for several years. While a “killer demo” has reportedly been produced, the series itself has not found a home.
Over on his blog, Palmiotti revealed that the creative team is now considering “The Pro” as a potential live-action project. He also had a surprising casting choice for the lead character.
“My first and favorite candidate is Sarah Silverman,” Palmiotti explained. “First off, she is funny as hell and I think has the right attitude. Second, she can act...which is important for this to work and last, »

The quirky television series Dead Like Me had a loyal following who felt it went on to the afterlife way too soon when it was cancelled in 2004! It has been resurrected for a movie that takes place five years after the series ending with a story that should please fans. It is direct to DVD, available, and just as fun as the original. In the movie, the Reapers (the un-dead who haven.t .received their lights. and moved on) are charged with collecting the souls as people die. If it sounds grim, it is anything but! These Reapers - George Lass (Ellen Muth) Roxy (Jasmine Guy), Daisy (Sarah Wynter) and Mason (Callum Blue) - are able to move among »

Let The Right One In (Magnolia) An awkward 12 year-old boy, ignored by his mother and the target of bullies, finds himself drawn to his new neighbor: a girl his own age who only appears at night, and seems herself to be as lonely an outcast as he. Haunting film from Sweden is best described as The 400 Blows meets Nosferatu, and contains some of the most haunting imagery of any film in recent memory. Truly a unique and memorable work. Bonuses: Deleted scenes; Featurette; Photo and poster gallery. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.
Paramount Centennial Collection Paramount offers two more classic titles, restored, remastered and loaded with extras. Bittersweet. Wholly bittersweet. Dead Like Me: Life After Death presents fans of the original series with a quandary. What is Dead Like Me without Rube (Mandy Patinkin)?
The new Dead Like Me feature film, reprising the plot of the ill-fated television series, answers that question but in a way that most fans will find lacking. By most accounts, getting 70% of an original cast back together 5 years after it ended (quite abruptly, I might add) would seem like a dream come true. Did we notice Laura Harris, who played Daisy Adair, was replaced by Sarah Wynter? You bet your ass we did. Did we care as much? No. What really gets at us - eats at us - is the void left by Rube's absence. Sure, they play it off decently well in the story but you can't replace the grounding character of »

Chicago – Oscar madness has left the Round Up a little weary of high profile, award-bait movies. We need a break from the Oscars and what better way to do that than with a few titles that might have slipped through the cracks while everyone was singing “Jai Ho”.
Catch up with some of your favorite characters from the cult hit “Dead Like Me,” watch the latest in Warner Brothers’ direct-to-dvd horror series known as “Raw Feed,” and check out a documentary that I think everyone thought would make bigger waves than it did, Bill Maher’s “Religulous”.
All three of these titles were released on February 17th, 2009.
Photo credit: Warner Bros. The “Raw Feed” series of Warner Bros. horror releases has been relatively disappointing. There hasn’t been a single real gem, although you’ll find some hardcore fans of “Rest Stop” and “Otis”. To this critic, they’re almost all near-misses, »

As we told you a few weeks ago in Ask AfterEllen.com, Tuesday was the release date of the Dead Like Me movie on DVD — and it’s not what I was expecting.
(Warning: Spoilers ahead.)
As expected, the movie starts five years after George (Ellen Muth) died and became a reaper. Head reaper, Rube (Mandy Patinkin) “got his lights” and the reapers have a new boss, Cameron (Henry Ian Cusick).
The Post-it notes are gone in favor of smart phones and the diner where the reapers used to meet is a pile of ashes. And Cameron’s approach to reaping is just the opposite of Rube’s by-the-book attitude. Those differences change the whole tone of the story — and not necessarily in a good way.
Now, George is sort of the moral compass, the reaper who chooses ethics over the new life, er, death of luxury Cameron brings to the scene. »

by Ian Spelling Ellen Muth is dead again, and she couldn’t be happier about it. Muth starred on the creepy, cult-favorite series Dead Like Me. She played Georgia “George” Lass, a young woman who was killed by a wayward toilet seat, only to discover that she was a Reaper, as in Grim Reaper, a member of the undead tasked with plucking the souls of those about to die in the instant before they expire. George worked with several other Reapers – among them Daisy (Laura Harris), Mason (Callum Blue), and Roxy (Jasmine Guy) – and they all answered to their boss, Rube (Mandy Patinkin). The show vanished in 2004, after just two seasons, much to the dismay of its modest but intensely loyal fan base. That fan base lobbied hard for more and, after all this time, Dead Like Me returns as a made-for-dvd movie entitled Dead Like Me: Life After Death. »

From the same bunch that brought you those twisted Teddy Scares, Apple Head Factory, comes Tofu the Vegan Zombie. Tofu isn’t your normal zombie- a harmless vegetarian, he wonders amongst humans striking fear into the heart of vegetables.
I became a fast fan of the series after seeing the first episode of the cartoon staring Billy West (Futurama) and Ellen Muth (Dead Like Me), and I’m anxiously awaiting more. So far, Tofu is the first toy figure amongst an eclectic cast. Hopefully as the series progresses, we will see toys of some of the other characters, but until then little Tofu will just have to do.
Shuffling in at an impressive 8 inches tall, Tofu comes out of the box with vegetable covered stand and baked tofu square that fits squarely atop his head, which I’m told can switch him from meat eater to beet eater. Although simplistic in design, »

Question: Is it true that the character of Anna Wu on Chuck is bisexual? ... I'm a sucker for bi women in sci-fi shows, so I'm wondering if this one should be on my radar.
— Sarah
Answer: Yes, Buy More employee Anna — played by Julia Ling — is bisexual, although it's understandable if you missed it: Anna's bisexuality has only been referenced once so far, in the first season when Anna quipped "speak for yourself!" to a comment from Morgan about none of them having sex with a beautiful woman. It's also referenced again in next week's episode.

Very few shows get life after death. Fans hope for it; they create petitions and campaigns to try and make it happen; but for every Family Guy second chance, there are many beloved shows that never get another moment to shine – and sometimes that’s a good thing. Five years after the end of the final, second season of Dead Like Me, we’ve got a sequel film – Dead Like Me: Life After Death. Rube (Mandy Patinkin) has gone into the light, the waffle house has burned down, and the reapers have to deal with the new, and quite controversial ideas of businessman and new head reaper, Cameron Kane. On paper, it all seems the same. George (Ellen Muth) is still struggling with what it means to be a reaper while working at Happy Time, her mother and sister are still trying to find their paths in life (but without her father, »
