Graham King will produce the film with Tim Headington, Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman. Julian Fellowes penned the original script; Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff did rewrites, according to Variety. »

The Tourist, which will tell the tale of an American tourist drawn into a plot of intrigue with a female Interpol agent, has had an increasingly hard time gearing up to launch into production this coming February. Avatar star Sam Worthington jumped ship a while back, along with director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, over “creative differences.”
Now, fan favorite Johnny Depp is in talks to be the titular tourist, and director Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) is considering taking the reins. If Depp is indeed attached to the project, he’ll be performing alongside Angelina Jolie, so we’re in for a vortex of sexiness the likes of which the world has never seen.
Julian Fellowes (Vanity Fair) wrote the original script for The Tourist, with rewrites by Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff.

Johnny Depp is in talks to star alongside Angelina Jolie in The Tourist, which would mark the first time these two mega stars have worked together.
The story, which was originally written by Julian Fellowes and has had rewrites by Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, would see Depp play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.
The role Depp is looking to fill was originally cast to Sam Worthington (Terminator Salvation), but he dropped out recently over creative differences. Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck also dropped out of the project, and now Alfonso Cuarón (Children Of Men) is in early talks to take over the director's chair. The film has gone through quite a few changes, as at one time Bharat Nalluri was attached to direct with Tom Cruise in the lead role. »

After seeing actors Tom Cruise and Avatar's Sam Worthington depart from the developing thriller The Tourist, and then get a second wind when Angelina Jolie got interested in starring in the picture, now the film gets another major boost from an A-lister: Johnny Depp, Mr. Pirates of the Caribbean himself, is now thinking about taking the lead male role in the film.
Depp's interest in the movie comes through one of the movie's producers, Graham King. The actor has worked with King on The Rum Diary and Rango, two films now in post-production. And while having Johnny sniffing around considering to take the paycheck is a good thing for the film's producers, it still needs a director. Just a couple of weeks ago things looked promising for German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck to come on and make the film for its intended February 2010 start of shooting. Now the »

May is the operative word here because for now, Johnny Depp is just in talks to star with Angelina Jolie in "The Tourist." The film is cursed by the Hollywood gods! The remake of the 2005 French thriller "Anthony Zimmer" has gone through so many major changes.
First, Bharat Nalluri was set to direct Tom Cruise and Charlize Theron. Then, Cruise left and Sam Worthington entered.
Soon after, Nalluri left and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck joined to helm. Then, Theron exited and Jolie entered.
Then, both Worthington and von Donnersmarck left.
Are you still with me?
We heard that Worthington and von Donnersmarck left due to creative differences.
"The Tourist" tells the story of an American tourist who goes undercover to entrap an ex-lover. That ex-lover is also a suspected global criminal.

Johnny Depp is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in The Tourist, which is targeting a February production start.
Depp is negotiating to play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover.
If the deal is struck, Depp will replace Sam Worthington (Avatar), who dropped out over creative differences, as has director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. Alfonso Cuaron (Children of Men) is in early talks to take over the director's chair.
A Depp-Jolie pairing is exciting, if it happens; the project has seen some of Hollywood's top talents come and go. At one time, Bharat Nalluri was attached to direct with Tom Cruise in the lead role. Charlize Theron was also attached to the project for a long time, but was recently replaced by Jolie.

The writer of The Day After Tomorrow has said that he was flattered by Trey Parker and Matt Stone's plans to make a puppet spoof of the movie. Jeffrey Nachmanoff told Digital Spy that he had not seen the South Park parody of the eco-disaster picture, but is aware that the comedians had hoped to make an identical version of the film using marionettes. Nachmanoff said: "I don't know those guys, but I remember when we first sold The Day After Tomorrow, they came out with an idea. "They wanted to shoot the script I had written with puppets - little wooden puppets - just word-for-word and release it on the exact same day." He added: "I (more) »

After penning Roland Emmerich's 2004 disaster flick The Day After Tomorrow, screenwriter Jeffrey Nachmanoff's directorial debut came with last year's tight, tidy and tense thriller Traitor, starring Don Cheadle and Guy Pearce. We spoke to him about quoting the Qur'an, politics and how he came to work on a movie about terrorism conceived by Steve Martin (yes, that one!). After Traitor and The Day After Tomorrow, do you see yourself as an "issues" writer?
"Nothing is ever a complete coincidence. You're attracted to the things that interest you and luck determines which ones actually get made. I definitely get more energised when there's something behind the story instead of just pure popcorn." Do you think Traitor has a message or moral?

Despite moviegoers’ comic book cravings, successful film adaptations are never a sure thing. So much can happen between pitch and production that creators tend to keep their cool until a project actually begins filming.
MTV News spoke with B. Clay Moore, writer of Oni Press’ upcoming “Billy Smoke,” about how the attachment of director Jeffrey Nachmanoff (”Traitor”) and “Lost” star Matthew Fox affect his assassin’s redemption tale. After all, he and artist Eric Kim still have a comic to release.
“We’re aiming to release the book next April,” Moore told MTV News, “We’ve kind of circled the [Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo] as the place we’d like to debut the book.”
Unlike, well, just about every other comic book film, “Smoke” was optioned based on a 2005 comic book pitch rather than a completed work. It’s new territory, but the production model seems to be working. Fox has been attached to »

Billy Smoke is an upcoming graphic novel that hasn't even hit shelves yet, but is already set for a Hollywood adaptation and has Lost's Matthew Fox attached to star. Today, however, it moved a little closer to release as Jeffrey Nachmanoff, screenwriter-turned-director-too, signed on to bring the film to the screen. The plot sees the eponymous Billy, an assassin, have a near-death experience and emerge determined to find redemption for his past misdeeds by riding the world of all assassins. Logically, at the finale he'll have to top himself as well, and then the world will be full of fluffy kittens and we'll all be free to frolick in flower-filled meadows (Editor's note: wild speculation, please do not accuse us of spoiling anything). The book was written by B. Clay Moore and illustrated by Eric Kim.It's not clear yet whether Nachmanoff will also write the screenplay, but it's »

Set to star as the assassin is Matthew Fox. No word yet on when this will go into production at Warner Brothers. It looks as if Fox has been involved in this from the very start, helping promote the comic since it was first announced last year. You can check out a glimpse at the cover art on the »

Matthew Fox’s “Billy Smoke” has gotten itself a director in “Traitor’s” Jeffrey Nachmanoff, who has boarded the live-action movie, which will be based on the Oni Press graphic novel. THR says the storyline will find Lost star Fox playing an elite hitman who, after a botched job that nearly costs him his life, turns around and decides to find redemption the only way he knows how, by killing people. But instead of doing it for money, this time he’s taking out his fellow hitmen in an attempt to rid the world of his kind. It’s a tough job, but someone’s gotta do it. As is the trend nowadays, “Billy Smoke” the comic book hasn’t even been published yet. It’s due out later this year from writer B. Clay Moore and artist Eric Kim, and published by Oni Press.
