Dane Cook has revealed that he would be interested in playing the Riddler in Batman 3. The 37-year-old told MTV News that he loves the direction that filmmaker Christopher Nolan has steered the franchise in with Batman Begins and follow-up The Dark Knight. Cook stated that his performance of the villain would be akin to what late actor Heath Ledger did with his Oscar-winning portrayal of the Joker. He said: "If they brought back the Riddler - a new Riddler the way they did with the Joker that would (more) »

It's still unclear whether director Christopher Nolan will be returning for a third chapter in the Batman revamp, let alone what villain(s) will square off against the Dark Knight. Still, there have been rumors for months now that The Riddler will make a return appearance some fifteen years after Jim Carrey portrayed the character in Batman Forever.
Everyone from Eddie Murphy, to Johnny Depp to Curb Your Enthusiasm funnyman Larry David have been mentioned in connection to the roll of Edward Nigma, the villain who compulsively confesses to his crimes in riddle form. So when MTV recently sat down with actor and comedian Dane Cook (My Best Friend's Girl), they asked him if he would be interested in the part.
If they brought back The Riddler — a new Riddler the way they did with The Joker — that would be badass. I would do that.

Pulse-pounding police dramas flood the film market place. Good cops, bad criminals and sometimes even worse cops make for compelling stories with lines that don’t always stay on the respective sides of black and white. Casting the excitable Samuel L. Jackson in the role of a man caught in that gray territory plays perfectly into the actor’s safe zone, as does Kevin Spacey playing a calm and controlling negotiator charged with navigating the path between total crisis meltdown and healthy resolution. The main and background players alike, many of whom even the casual viewer will recognize from bit parts, all take on roles well within their typecast boxes and the film benefits from their expertise. If any shortcoming can be found in the film it’s with the story’s convenient oversights at key moments, but unless you’re actively looking for them the story hurries along with a prompt pace. »

From Movies Blog: A few weeks back, Marc Guggenheim departed his role as co-showrunner of "FlashForward," leaving the job solely to co-creator David Goyer. The move came as a surprise to many, considering the critical approval that the show has received. Goyer himself touts tonight's episode as the best installment yet. Sure there are challenges, but that is true of every show on television.
Many have wondered how Guggenheim's exit might effect the upcoming slate of episodes. Goyer has a great background in film and TV; his writing on Chris Nolan's "Batman" films revived the ailing franchise and he executive produced the underrated TV series "Threshold." "FlashForward" is his biggest TV project yet, but he brings a lot of experience to the table and will be fine without Guggenheim.
Besides, Goyer told MTV in a recent interview that the departure was hardly a surprise—indeed, it was always part of the plan. »

In all likelihood, we're still quite a ways off from any real news regarding a third "Batman" movie from director Christopher Nolan—if he's even returning to the franchise, that is—but that's not stopping us from wondering which Dark Knight villain we should see in the inevitable sequel.
There's no shortage of rogues to choose from, but the one I think is an absolute necessity is Catwoman. Given the state of Bruce Wayne's life after the events of "The Dark Knight," this feels like the perfect time to introduce Selina Kyle—the woman who could either help mend Bruce's fences, or bring all of the walls tumbling down.
If Nolan, David Goyer and the other folks at DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. decide to go the Catwoman route, I think that these five actresses would be great for the role.

Remember when word of a mysterious project called Cloverfield first surfaced? Before we knew it, we were getting a movie about a mostly unseen giant monster causing chaos in New York. Well, it seems that J.J. Abrams might be bringing us something in the same top-secret vein with a project that is being referred to as 500 Rads.
The guys over at Pajiba (thanks to /Film for pointing us to this) have an inside source (who they’re keeping nameless, for good reason) that has given some details on 500 Rads, a project that Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot, are apparently developing in secret.
So what’s it all about? Well, the little info we’ve got beyond the title tells us that it’s in the same vein as Cloverfield and 28 Days Later. Pajiba helpfully points out that a “rad” is an “absorbed radiation dose.” The guys over at »

Okay, so we haven't even received official word that there will be a third movie in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" franchise, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate about the characters we'd like to see in the film if it ever gets made.
When it comes to the Batman movies, there's a long—and some might say sordid—history of jam-packing greater numbers of villains into each installment. However, with the passing of Heath Ledger last year, the most prominent prospect for the next installment's villain suddenly (and tragically) became an impossibility. The question now becomes: will Nolan go for a returning character or someone entirely new if/when he tackles the Dark Knight next?
I've compiled a list of some of the characters whose names have popped up when discussing potential villains for the third "Batman" movie—from legitimate contenders to the stuff of rumors. Now's your chance to »

Like celebrity deaths, good things come in threes — at least they do this week on DVD.
Read on for more!
The films of gay Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar go in and out of print on DVD without any apparent rhyme or reason, so if you want to include his work in your home library, it's best to snap them up whenever you can.
This week sees three of his finest films getting new DVD releases. The Oscar-winning All About My Mother (newly remastered) still ranks as my very favorite of his movies, brilliantly mixing his gifts for outrageous comedy and tear-jerking melodrama. It's a "women's picture" in the very best sense.
Almodóvar's breakthrough in this country was the hysterical farce Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown — there's been talk for some time about turning this into a stage musical, so now's the perfect time to catch up with »

Before we get into this week's releases I thought I would alert you to an upcoming 50% off Criterion Collection titles at Barnes and Nobles beginning on November 10 and running for two weeks. The full details, and a $5 off coupon, can be found in the DVD Talk forums.
Wings of Desire (Criterion Collection) This is a huge week for major title releases on Blu-ray as Criterion's release of Wim Wenders's Wings of Desire is just the first of three titles I reviewed and most likely blew my word count for the next two weeks trying to get all of my thoughts squared away.
As for this title specifically, it was my first time seeing it and as it played on and on I began to enjoy it more and more. However, if you read my lengthy review, you will »

A little while ago, a teaser trailer for Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon hit the internet but it was such poor quality that it really didn’t do the film justice. This would probably be the reason why Paramount asked us a day or so later to pull the video. A couple of weeks later, a proper teaser trailer came out with the exact same footage and to say it was tons better would be an understatement.
Today, thanks to Trailer Spy, Dreamworks has released the official trailer for How to Train Your Dragon in glorious HD and it is beautiful. The story is based on the 2003 children’s book by the same name written by Cressida Cowell. The movie is set in the land of Vikings and dragons and follows a Viking boy named Hiccup on the island of Berk. For Hiccup and his people, fighting dragons is an everyday occurrence. »

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are in negotiations to star in Fury Road, the fourth installment in the Mad Max series. Writer-director George Miller has been working on the project for over a decade, and although Mel Gibson was attached at one point to return to the lead role that he played in the first three films of the series, Hardy will instead be tackling the role of Max, with Theron playing the female lead.
Little is known plot-wise about the film as Miller aims to keep a lid on what is set to be a highly anticipated event. Fans of the series have been waiting since 1985 for the next film in the series. All that is known at this point is that the film takes place a short while after the end of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Hardy recently gave an impressive performance in the title role of Bronson, »

Rumor on the street suggesting that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy may be involved in "Mad Max: Fury Road" is on the right path after all. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Academy Award-winning actress and the gay gangster of "RocknRolla" are in negotiations to star in the fourth installment of the "Mad Max" series.
Hardy, who will be seen as Eames in Christopher Nolan's "Inception", is expected to step into the role of hardened ex-cop Max Rockatansk, meaning he will replace Mel Gibson who had portayed the character in the first three installments. 34-year-old Theron, in the meantime, will take on the female lead role. Details about her character are yet to be disclosed though.
"Mad Max: Fury Road", according to THR, will take place a short while after the story detailed in 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome". To be an Australian production, this fourth film »

It turns out the rumor last week that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy may star in George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road” turned out to be true. Hardy will play “Mad” Max Rockatansky, the role made popular by Mel Gibson in Miller’s 1979 post-apocalyptic action-flick, “Mad Max”. Hardy is getting big name recognition for his performance in “Bronson” and he’ll next be seen in Christopher Nolan’s highly-anticipated film, “Inception”. As for Charlize Theron, she’s Charlize Theron and since she’s both attractive and can act, she doesn’t have a tough time getting offered roles. Grab all the gasoline you can and hit the jump for more details.
According to Heat Vision Blog, Theron will play the female lead opposite Hardy. However, the script is tightly under wraps and there’s no word on whose costume will have more studs and spikes. Hvb also reports »

I love a well-told story. That's why I really enjoyed a small film called Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party (hereafter abbreviated as Stbp) which made the rounds at many film festivals a few years ago. The film features a series of short stories, as told by legendary character actor Stephen Tobolowsky on the anniversary of his birth. The stories are funny, profound, and moving, and many of them stay with me to this day. In his lifetime, Tobolowsky has had some pretty wild and crazy adventures, not to mention the fact that he's worked with directors like Paul Verhoeven, Harold Ramis, Christopher Nolan, and Spike Jonze, just to name a few. Deep in my heart, I knew that even with Stbp out there, Tobolowsky probably still had a bunch of great stories tucked away in the recesses of his memory. So, shortly after one of his recent appearances on the /Filmcast, »

With Halloween upon us, we're visiting our last comic book villain here on The Geek Beat. I really really wanted to end with symmetry, and focus on a DC villain from an upcoming film so that each universe had two villains. But unfortunately, The Green Lantern is the only DC project that we have a definitive villain for. Some that are in pre-production (The Flash, Green Arrow) have such an enormous rogue's gallery that I'm at a loss as to who a screenwriter might pick. Others (Superman) have been shelved, and the most exciting (Batman) have been beaten to death in the Christopher Nolan rumor mill. There are others I can't talk about because I'd get in serious trouble. So with big apologies to DC fans, we're going to return to the Marvel Universe to meet the monstrosity that I suspect could torment First Avenger: Captain America. His eyes are »

The mystery surrounding Christopher Nolan's upcoming thriller Inception has been extremely hard to penetrate. Along with the earlier trailer revelation that it contains airborne hallway battles, there's the photographic "reveal" this weekend that the movie will feature a sharply dressed Leonardo DiCaprio sitting dangerously on a window sill.
In addition, Nolan favorite Michael Caine has offered up a small tidbit about his role: "I play a professor who's teaching a guy science," Caine told Empire. "It's Leonardo DiCaprio. He's going off to do a science project and he speaks to me before he goes."
Caine couldn't reveal more because he was only handed his one scene, but another Nolan regular, Cillian Murphy, has seen the entire script and still wouldn't reveal much about the movie to MTV.
This is my third film with Chris. He showed me the whole script. It's very very complex and amazing. I'm hugely excited »

Not only is it Halloween Week here on Splash Page, this year also marks the 15th anniversary of Brandon Lee's debut in the live-action adaptation of James O'Barr's dark comic book series "The Crow." With that in mind, we're celebrating with a five-part retrospective on the 1994 film, its origins and its legacy, culled from interviews with the cast and filmmakers behind director Alex Proyas' celebrated film. Check back each day this week for another installment of our "15 Years Of Devil's Night" series.
Part One: 52 Meetings From The Comic To The Screen
Sure, there's Richard Donner's Superman, the Christopher Nolan Batman films, but to many, "The Crow" remains the greatest comic book flick ever made.

A Fourth Mad Max movie is finally about to get moving Down Under.
Director George Miller has hinted that the actor chosen to play Mel Gibson's lead role is likely to be native to Australia.
Online speculation suggests that the part will go to Sam Worthington (pictured), the Aussie star of Terminator Salvation and upcoming films Avatar and Clash of the Titans.
The other name that has cropped up in rumours is Tom Hardy, who is British. He made his film debut in Black Hawk Down, starred in this year's Bronson and has a role in Christopher Nolan's upcoming Inception.
Hardy also appeared on TV in crime thriller The Take and this August's adaptation of Wuthering Heights.
Mad Max 4: Fury Road is to start filming in Australia in late 2010, with Charlize Theron set to co-star. It will create 540 jobs and generate millions of dollars for the local movie industry, »
