Howard's pulp-era hero, Solomon Kane has a long history in comics, including a recent Dark Horse Comics series by Scott Allie and a run of comics published by Marvel in the 1970s and '80s. “Solomon Kane” is a movie I am really looking forward to. That particular era (16th Century England) is criminally underused and features an excellent hysterically paranoid culture, bug eyed in terror over witches and skirts that rose above the foot. I love the whole look and feel of the pilgrim time, full of ruffled shirts, pointy hats, floating or non floating witches and torches, torches, torches! Brilliant! Here we have a nice behind the scenes look at how the fighting scenes in “Solomon Kane” were put together plus someone gets turned into a newt! Just kidding. “Solomon Kane” opens wide in 2010 and stars James Purefoy. Via the creepy kids at Bloody Disgusting. »

Can’t wait for Conan The Barbarian? Well there’s another Robert E. Howard character heading into theatres next year, and that would be one demon-slaying priest known as Solomon Kane. Since the original footage was aired at Comic Con earlier this year, the buzz surrounding this film has been ever-growing. Starring James Purefoy (Rome), Pete Postlethwaite and Max von Sydow, this independently produced pic looks promising indeed, check out the new clips in the widget below and let us know what you think:
Solomon Kane is a fictional character created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard. A 17th century Puritan, Solomon Kane is a somber-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms. His adventures, published mostly in the pulp magazine Weird Tales, often take him from Europe to the jungles of Africa and back.

I've been looking forward to Michael J. Bassett's Solomon Kane ever since we caught some glimpses of the sword and sorcery film back at Comic-Con. The film stars James Purefoy (Rome) as the titular Robert E. Howard (creator of Conan the Barbarian) character, and also includes Pete Postlethwaite and Max von Sydow among its cast. We haven't seen much from the project up until now, aside from a trailer several months ago. Today, the studio announced that they've released several clips from the film, including behind-the-scenes footage, in a convenient video widget. They've also included a higher quality version of the trailer, which definitely gives us a much better look at the scope of the film. The new clips feature a look at the fight scenes in the film, as well as the many fantasy creatures. Check them out below: While it may be independently produced, Solomon Kane honestly »

Opens: 2010
Cast: Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella, Emma Booth, Lee Ingleby
Director: Beeban Kidron
Summary: Follows the love story of Oz editor Richard Neville and Louise Ferrier. Neville and his cohorts launch the London edition of Oz amidst the 1960s counterculture and are subsequently put on trial for distributing a sexually explicit issue.
Analysis: One of the most troubled productions in Working Title's history, 'Hippie' began development back in 1998 but failed to get beyond script stage both in 1999 and in 2002 when "Elizabeth" helmer Shekhar Kapur was attached to direct. Filming finally got underway late 2007 with director Beeban Kidron in charge and shooting seemed to proceed without issue aside from feminist author Germaine Greer being vehemently unhappy about being depicted on film.
Actually the film scored quite a bit of free press for a skinny dipping scene where full-frontal shots of actress Sienna Miller shooting the sequence »

Out doing promotion for "Sherlock Holmes", British thesp Mark Strong ("Body of Lies," "Rocknrolla") tells Cinema Blend that most of his work on the upcoming "John Carter of Mars" film will not involve much CG.
"My character doesn't actually get involved in any of the motion-capture stuff. All the stuff is live action. Although I can shift my shape, so I have to be photographed by a 360-degree camera. I can adapt into anything. That's going to be my particular talent" says Strong who plays Matai Shang, the ruler of the Thems.
He adds that "there's some filming in Utah, but most of it is in a studio outside of London". Joining him are the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins, Willem Dafoe, Samantha Morton, Dominic West, Polly Walker, Thomas Haden Church and James Purefoy.
Andrew Stanton helms the project currently scheduled for a Summer 2012 release. »

A new, action-packed video clip has been released as part of a series promoting writer-director Michael J. Bassett's new movie, Solomon Kane. While the title character name may not be very familiar to some, Solomon Kane actually comes with a strong pulp-fiction pedigree, having been created by Robert E. Howard (Conan).
Actor James Purefoy (HBO's Rome) stars as Solomon Kane, a 16th-century Puritan who once fought evil, but renounced violence to save himself from damnation. When evil rises once again, Kane is inexorably drawn into a conflict that could cost him his soul.
Solomon Kane also stars Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite, and Alice Krige.
