I don’t know about you, but I remember chain letters being huge when I was about nine or ten years old. You know how they go: You get a letter, it tells you a story of some sort, then advises you to pass the letter on to a certain number of friends or have bad luck.
People rarely ever take these letters (or in today’s technology based society, e-mails) seriously, but next year we may feel more inclined to do so.
New Films has picked up the rights to Chain Letter, a horror film by Deon Taylor that follows a serial killer who targets teenagers who don’t follow through on forwarding chain letters.
Chain Letter, which will star Nikki Reed, Betsy Russell, and Brad Dourif, is already being looked at as a franchise possibility. The film will be released next year, produced by Todd Slater through Slater Brothers Entertainment. »

Saw VI is as disposable as it’s victims, a graphic gore-fest that blurs into the rest of the series and takes a weak stab at social relevance.
Splayed open on an autopsy table in part IV, series serial killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) is still somehow plotting torture chambers from beyond the grave. His legacy remains intact though, a sealed box is willed to his widow, the cruel hardware preserved for the next “lesson,” and the endless acres of industrial real estate left to his minions.
The puppeteer’s newest apprentice is Detective Hoffman (D-list actor Costas Mandylor), who survived V to oversee a familiar macabre maze of over-thought death traps. Shawnee Smith returns as Amanda through flashbacks, but she may as well be absent, and Jigsaw’s wife Jill (Betsy Russell) inexplicably eludes authorities as a prime suspect.
This time Jigsaw and friends have caged an insurance executive, who »

Lionsgate's new "Saw VI" movie delivered more guts, gore, and brutality,as they released the 6th installment of this ever-going franchise this weekend. It stars : Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell, Mark Rolston, Peter Outerbridge, Shawnee Smith, Samantha Lemole, Caroline Cave, George Newbern, Darius McCrary, Shauna MacDonald, Devon Bostick, and Tanedra Howard. "Saw VI" continued where it left off in "Saw V," with Hoffman watching Agent Peter Strahm get crushed after tricking him. However, it did start off with another vicious Jigsaw game that involved a guy cutting out his guts, and a woman chopping off her arm to save her life. Detectives from the past were brought back to figure out the continuing Jigsaw murders.Unfortunately, they didn't survive long, once Hoffman figured out they were on to him. »

The players: Director: Kevin Greutert, Writers: Marcus Dunstan, Patrick Melton, Cast: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Shawnee Smith
Facts of interest: None.
The plot: When the FBI draws closer to Hoffman, he is forced to set a game into motion, and Jigsaw's grand scheme is finally understood.
Our thoughts: Kevin Greutert’s “Saw VI” definitely fails to revitalize the popular big-screen horror series, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s not as bad an installment as its two most recent predecessors. One thing is for certain though: this sixth film is still bloody and gives cinemagoers a better insight into Jigsaw’s entire scheme. »

Saw VI Studio: Lionsgate Rated: R for sequences of grisly bloody violence, torture and language. Starring: Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith Directed by: Kevin Greutert What it’s about: This sixth installment of the popular horror franchise sees Detective Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) continuing the work of the serial killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell). However, even with a new game targeting a greedy insurance tycoon afoot, there’s more surprises for Hoffman from the police and from beyond the grave of Jigsaw. What I liked: Unlike many critics, I have really enjoyed the Saw franchise, and this film is a worthy successor. If you’re looking for gore and violence, you’ll get plenty of that. But also, if you’re looking for a film that gives more twists and turns in the already complex story arc, you’ll get that as well. Like the other sequels, Saw VI »

Sorry to break it to fans of the Saw film series, but Jigsaw, a/k/a John Kramer is a self-righteous dick. In comparison to the Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers of the horror world, whose raison d'être is causing carnage mercifully bereft of deeper moral or instructional value, Jigsaw devotes a ridiculous amount of time thinking about what other people do with themselves, and effectively (if ironically) conceives his traps as object lessons in humility, compassion, and self-awareness. Personally, I find this high-handed moralizing far more painful than any evil device he could possibly design, but then again, that's why I'm not a fan of the series; that said, the latest installment in the Saw franchise appears to fulfill all of the demands of its audience and then some, making it a worthy and faithful entry in a franchise which at this point seems expressly designed to document people dying in increasingly inventive ways. »
