When Rihanna debuted her video for "Wait Your Turn," from her forthcoming album, Rated R, it was a grainy, sexy clip portraying the singer as the tough renegade — which was exactly what Rihanna and longtime music-video collaborator Anthony Mandler wanted to convey.

"We shot the clip in mid-October on a cold day in New York City. The vibe and feeling was great," Mandler told MTV News. "It was the first video for the album, so obviously everyone was excited and focused on setting the tone for what's to come. Rihanna and I spoke in depth about creating a piece that was gritty, raw and more of a street video then a classic beauty piece."

Diddy Celebrates His 40th Birthday

4 November 2009 11:12 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

If you happen to pass by Sean Combs, be sure to wish him a happy birthday, as the man better known as Diddy turns 40 years old today. While it's bizarre to think if Diddy as a guy in the depths of middle age, it's also odd to think that he isn't older. Diddy has been such a dominant, ubiquitous force in pop culture since the '90s that it's almost as if he has always been with us. There have been countless highs (smash hits like "It's All About the Benjamins," "I'll Be Missing You" and "Bad Boy for Life") and devastating lows (most notably the death of his friend the Notorious B.I.G.), but he has certainly changed the face of hip-hop and gave rise to the idea of diversification among pop stars. He's dabbled in fashion, fragrances, restaurants and alcohol, and his empire is constantly expanding.

Multiple Personality Disorder report

26 October 2009 11:23 AM, PDT | QuietEarth.us | See recent QuietEarth news »

[Editor's Note: Multiple Personality Disorder Reports are short news blasts meant to let you know about the stuff that didn't make it to the news page but still had us talking behind the scenes]

#1: RZA talks about films in the works

RZA is a genius musician but he’s ready to make the leap into film. In a recent interview with The A.V. Club, he confirmed that work is progressing on “The Man with the Iron Fist”, an old school “martial arts extravaganza” which will also be his directorial debut (with a little help from Eli Roth(?). If that’s not enough, RZA has also signed on to produce “The Last Dragon” remake with Samuel L. Jackson, a project he had already agreed to star in last year. [via: The A.V. Club]

#2: “Ghost in the Shell” goes live-action

Laeta Kalogridis (the writer behind “Night Watch”, “Alexander” and the god awful “Pathfinder” – 2 for 3 aint bad) is in the process of adapting a live-action version of “Ghost in the Shell.” Yes, he’ll try his hand at making high-brow, non-sensical (but awesome) anime into a package that Hollywood will eat-up. »

'Funny People' arrives on DVD and Blu-ray in time for Thanksgiving

25 October 2009 2:51 PM, PDT | Denver Movies Examiner | See recent Denver Movies Examiner news »

Judd Apatow and Adam Sandler want to come over for Thanksgiving.

Due out on DVD and Blu-ray on November 24th, Funny People stars Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann and comes from the mind that brought you The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up.

Sandler plays a George Simmons, a popular comedian who is given a second chance at life. Rogen plays his trusty assistance in this sedate comedy. Funny People also stars Jonah, Eric Bana and Jason Schwartzman.

The film will be released in a single-disc edition, a two-disc Special Edition and, of course, a fancy two-disc Blu-ray edition. All versions will have both the theatrical and unrated versions.

Better hope you don't watch this after you inhale a turkey. This film is on the long side.

RZA Talks 'Man With The Iron Fist' and 'Last Dragon' Remake

22 October 2009 8:18 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

There's a martial arts project I've been looking forward to ever since it was first announced - The Man With the Iron Fist. Back in July of last year it was revealed that Eli Roth and RZA would team up to make an old school kung fu movie and RZA would make his directorial debut on it. Not much has been said about it since then, but RZA was interviewed by The A.V. Club and not only gave a good update on The Man With the Iron Fist, but also talked about The Last Dragon remake that he's involved with as well. Neither of the projects have gotten a greenlight just yet, but both of them sound like they're moving along quite smoothly. The Man With the Iron Fist will be a "bloody R rated martial arts extravaganza" that RZA developed after studying Quentin Tarantino for a few years »

RZA Updates on The Last Dragon, Directorial Debut The Man With the Iron Fist, and Odb Biopic. (Please Cast Tracy Morgan)

22 October 2009 12:21 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

In a new interview with The Onion in which he discusses everything from Dawn of the Dead to sperm cells, the RZA let it be known that a biopic on Ol' Dirty Bastard, the late id of the Wu-Tang Clan, is in early discussion stages. The highlight of Funny People also updated on his hands-on role on The Last Dragon remake and his directorial debut, the kung-fu flick The Man With the Iron Fist, under the tutelage of his pal Eli Roth. Supremely good stuff... The life of Dirty, cousin to both RZA and Gza, is ripe for the telling, as the rapper crafted several Rotten Apple anthems like "Brooklyn Zoo" and "Got Your Money," fathered numerous children, made food stamps mainstream, and did the Rick James thing before Dave Chappelle. Here's RZA... "We have talked about it. His estate is pretty confused, like any estate is in our country. »

Ol' Dirty Bastard May Be The Subject Of A Biopic, Wu-Tang Clan Honcho RZA Says

22 October 2009 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Before there was Big Baby Jesus, Dirt McGirt, or any number of other names he adopted through the years, there was Wu-Tang Mc (and occasional producer) Ol' Dirty Bastard. Real name: Russell Tyrone Jones. Dirty left us in 2004, dead from a drug overdose just two days before his 36 birthday. Whatever fans may have thought of his increasingly erratic behavior, he was always a talented performer and one of the Wu-Tang Clan's most powerful creative energies.

It's a compelling story, the life of Ol' Dirty Bastard. Enough for a biopic even, at least according to Wu-Tang frontman RZA. In an interview with The A.V. Club, the entertainment everyman said "We have talked about [an Ol' Dirty biopic]." The biggest obstacle right now appears to be a legal one. "His estate is pretty confused, like any estate is in our country," RZA explained. "The estate is kind of confused on what to do, and »

Funny People DVD and Blu-ray Hitting Shelves on November 24th with More Special Features Than You Require

21 October 2009 4:27 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

I never thought I’d be saying this, but I pity whoever has to review the DVD or Blu-ray of “Funny People”.  It’s not because it’s a bad film but because it’s a long one.  Now take the length of the film and then remember how loaded the DVDs are for Judd Apatow films.  Add that all together and whoever has to watch all of these feature–especially on the Blu-ray-will not see his family or friends for at least two weeks so that he can get his review online by the DVD/Blu-ray’s release date of November 24th.

The special features for the DVD and Blu-ray of the movie have been announced and, as expected, there are more special features than you can handle because “Funny People” is really two movies smooshed together.  And because the film wasn’t long enough, there’s also an »

Our top section is called "Don't Sleep," and that's a motto that Gucci Mane has lived by for the past two years. In 2009 alone, he's had about 200 of his songs on mixtapes, and none of them were his bells-and-whistles single "Spotlight," which just hit the Net on Monday. The track features Usher and finds Gucc in a zone he knows all too well. No, not his 'hood, Atl Zone 6 — the club. We're gonna give you a synopsis of his three latest street CDs (not including The BurrPrint [The Movie 3-D], which came out last week, or the upcoming Halloween release Fright Night). And right after Gucc, be sure to see how the RZA feels about Raekwon, Ghostface and Method Man making a joint album.

RZA Didn't Always Have A Map: The MTV News Quote Of The Day

16 October 2009 2:24 PM, PDT | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

"We all travel a way or path in life. What I did in this book, we broke it down to seven pillars of wisdom of different things that happened in my life that brought me to the fruition of the man I am. I think all of us are striving to be better men, and sometimes we don't have a map. Going to the 'hood, we just know the 'hood talk and the 'hood mentality or the American video game mentality. As the great, late Mr. Magic — rest in peace, Mr. Magic — would say, when his show would go off, he would say, 'A fool can learn from his own mistakes, but a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.' That's what this book is."

Wu-Tang's RZA 'saved Method Man's life'

RZA has revealed that bandmate Method Man regularly reminds him that he saved his life. The Wu-Tang Clan rappers were involved in a drive-by shooting early on in their careers, in which Method Man claims that RZA prevented him from being killed. During the early '90s, Method Man was talking to several friends in front of a building when RZA called to him from the other side of the street. Crossing the road, Method Man narrowly missed being shot as trouble flared. "[I called], (more) »

Lady Gaga, Kris Allen, The Backstreet Boys And Tokio Hotel: This Week's Deep Cuts

RZA joins Downey Jr. and Galifianakis in Due Date

8 October 2009 2:05 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Variety reports that Wu-Tang Clan rapper RZA will star with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis in Due Date, the upcoming comedy from director Todd Phillips (The Hangover, Old School, Starsky & Hutch).

The story involves a soon-to-be father who is in danger of missing his child's birth. In order to make it on time, he has to enlist the help of an underachieving college student, who takes him on a road trip.

The RZA has already starred in and produced music for a number of features, perhaps most notably those of indie filmmaker Jim Jarmusch. If you haven't yet seen it, check out this hilarious clip from Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes, in which RZA discusses the ills of caffeine addiction with fellow Wu-Tang member Gza and ... Terry Gilliam Finds His Don Quixote And 'Battlestar Galactica: The Plan' Gets A Release Date In Today's Dailies -- 10/7/09

--Terry Gilliam is getting back to his work on the man of La Mancha, Don Quixote. The filmmaker's seemingly cursed efforts at bringing the mad knight to the silver screen seem to have finally paid off, likely thanks to the goodwill his work on the soon-to-be-released "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" has fostered. Said Gilliam of "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote": "We're up and running again, we've rewritten the script and finally got it back, the budget's come in... and I think we've found our Quixote! But who's it going to be? Well, I'm not going to tell you, but it'll start next Spring." (Empire Online)

RZA Keeps His Comedy Career Going With Due Date

7 October 2009 10:51 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The delivery room is getting even more crowded for Todd Phillips' Due Date. The comedy, starring Robert Downey Jr. as a father-to-be rushing home in time for the delivery, with Zach Galifianakis as his slacker road trip buddy, added Michelle Monaghan and Jamie Foxx last week; now rapper RZA is joining as well. Variety reported today that he's been cast in the film, but isn't specifying what role he'll play. There are pretty much only two options-- either he's a crazy character who Downey Jr. and Galifianakis encounter on their way home, or he's somehow involved in Foxx's scheme to win back Monaghan, his ex. RZA's small role in Funny People wasn't really enough to tell me whether or not I'm ready for a bigger role for him in a comedy, but it's not like Todd Phillips' movies live and die on their performances anyway.
