30 Days of Night: Dark Days To Be a "War" Movie

23 December 2009 5:40 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Shooting has wrapped on the 30 Days of Night sequel, 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, and producer J.R. Young told ShockTilYouDrop that fans of the first movie will be very pleased with what he described as a "war movie". I think the second film definitely stays within the world of the first film and it stays true to the second graphic novel in the series for those fans out there. The story is within that world but there are differences and a lot of that is due to the graphic novel. The first film is very much a survival film and this next one is all about revenge. There's an action component. The last one is a western, this one is more of a war movie. It's taking the battle to the vampires.

Seeking revenge will be Kiele Sanchez, taking over for Melissa George who could not work out her schedule to return. »

Exclusive: Steve Niles on '30 Days of Night: Dark Days'

24 November 2009 12:07 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Call it counter-programming. At a time when vampire romance tales threaten to completely extinguish any reminder that the undead were once creatures to be feared rather than swooned over, shooting has at long last begun on the sequel to 30 Days of Night, the Josh Hartnett-starring film adaptation of Steve Niles fan-favorite comic book. Filling in for the Melissa George, the first film's heroine/survivor is Lost's Kiele Sanchez, who's joined by genre veteran Mia Kirshner and Sanchez's fellow Lostie Harold Perrineau. Last week we chatted with Niles from his home in La about what we can expect from 30 Days of Night: Dark Days. How did this come about in the wake of the first film? We thought the first 30 »

Exclusive: Producer Talks 30 Days of Night: Dark Days From the Set

23 November 2009 11:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Dread Central hit the set of Sony’s 30 Days of Night: Dark Days earlier this month - the film wraps principal photography today in Vancouver, Canada, under the watchful eye of co-scripter (with Steve Niles) and director Ben Ketai - and while there sat down with producer Jr Young (among others) to discuss the flick (cast interviews to come).

“This is a very edgy film,” Young, who previously produced The Messengers, told Dread while intently watching a scene being played out in video village – a scene which featured a rather hysterical and bloody actress (Katherine Isabelle) pleading for her life. “Ben knows this world. I think it comes natural to him.”

Starring Kiele (A Perfect Getaway) Sanchez, Mia (De Palma’s The Black Dahlia) Kirschner, Rhys ("Entourage") Coiro, Diora (Night of the Demons) Baird, Harold ("Lost") Perrineau, Troy (A Marine Story) Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, Marco Sorian, Monique (Cabin in the Woods) Ganderton, »

Steve Niles Says More 30 Days of Night Movies Could Follow Dark Days

20 November 2009 11:47 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Less than two weeks ago, the first still image from the set of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days was released showing Kiele Sanchez taking over for Melissa George as Stella. 30 Days creator and Dark Days writer Steve Niles originally said that they decided to cast "slightly younger" because they hoped to make more movies based on the multitude of 30 Days graphic novels.

However, in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting, he said that there were other issues that factored in the decision.

Schedule. The enemy of all casting. [Melissa George has] got a million gazillion things going on right now, so we couldn't fit it.

As far as plans for another film after Dark Days, possibly based on the Return to Barrow graphic novel, Niles said the main concern right now is getting Dark Days "in the can."

If that goes well, we're set up to move forward. We got a great young »

More '30 Days of Night' Sequels May Be On The Way, Hints Creator Steve Niles

20 November 2009 9:20 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

With filming of “30 Days of Night: Dark Days”, currently underway in Canada, Steve Niles — the writer and creator of “30 Days” — is hinting that more sequels may follow.

"Right now we’re just trying to get this one in the can," said Niles in an interview with Bloody Disgusting. "If that goes well, we’re set up to move forward. We got a great young cast that we can bring along if this works out well, and we’ll be ready to keep going with the story. Plus, the comics are done. God, what do we have, like seven different graphic novels now if it actually took off?"

“30 Days of Night” was first published in 2002 as a three issue miniseries by Idw with Niles and artist Ben Templesmith as the creative team. The story follows the residents of a small town in Alaska who must endure a siege of vampires during an extended period without sunlight. »

First Still from 30 Days of Night: Dark Days

10 November 2009 12:52 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

It's only been a little more than two weeks since it was announced that Kiele Sanchez would be stepping in to replace Melissa George as Stella in the sequel to 30 Days of Night, but the production is already underway in Vancouver. Irish Rican of AICN visited the set and returned with the first still image from Dark Days, showing a bloodied and bruised Sanchez wielding a massive knife.

30 Days of Night and 30 Days of Night: Dark Days are closely based on the comic books by Steve Niles, who also co-wrote the script for Dark Days. There are plans to adapt other books in the series, which factored into the decision to bring in Sanchez to play the lead role.

30 Days of Night: Dark Days does not have an official release date as of yet, but it is expected to debut in 2010.

First Look at Kiele Sanchez as a Bloody Stella in 30 Days of Night Sequel

9 November 2009 8:17 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Color me excited for the sequel to David Slade’s “30 Days of Night”. Yup, even without Slade. Still, I’m a fan of the comic book series by Steve Niles, and the sequel, based on Niles’ “Dark Days” limited series, looks and sounds like a rockin’ good time. So, via AICN, here’s your first look at actress Kiele Sanchez, all bloodied up and getting ready to hack some vampires to bits, replacing Melissa George as Stella Oleson in the sequel. I can’t say if the lost of George is all that vital. She’s a decent actress, but let’s face it, it’s not like replacing Weaver in the “Alien” films. Ben Ketai takes over for David Slade in the director’s chair, and Sanchez is joined by Harold Perrieneau, Mia Kirshner, and Katherine Isabelle in the cast. The sequel finds Stella alive and well and doing »

'30 Days of Night' Set Visit: 'Ginger Snaps' Star Katherine Isabelle Joins Cast!

This past week Bloody Disgusting's Evan Katz headed up north to Vancouver to check out the set of Sony Stage 6's 30 Days Of Night: Dark Days, which is currently being directed by Ben Ketai. Beyond the break you'll find a little teaser from set, which reveals some brand new casting including Ginger Snaps star Katherine Isabelle! While Id already known about the casting of Kiele Sanchez, Mia Kirschner, Rhys Coiro, Diora Baird, Harold Perrineau, Troy Ruptash, Jackson Berlin, John De Santis, and Marco Sorian I was pleasantly surprised to find Katherine Isabelle of Ginger Snaps fame was has a role in the film. I cant give away too much, but her scene involved a skimpy blue nightgown, fifty degree weather, and a highly unorthodox vampiric initiation ritual. Really screwed up, intense stuff. More »
