The Notable Films of 2010: Part Six

27 December 2009 10:09 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The Last Airbender

Opens: July 2nd 2010

Cast: Noah Ringer, Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone, Dev Patel

Director: M. Night Shyamalan

Summary: A live-action film based on the Nickelodeon animated TV series. In a fantastic world where civilisation exists as four great empires, a reluctant young child sets out on a perilous journey to restore balance to a world torn apart by war.

Analysis: Its been quite the decade for M. Night Shyamalan who started it as a household name with labels of a moodern-day Hitchcock thanks to the likes of "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs". Today he's considered more of a one-trick pony and in some cases a punchline due to rampant stories of egomania run wild and a series of much derided onscreen flops like "Lady in the Water" and "The Happening".

Thus 'Airbender' marks a potential return to form for the helmer. An adaptation of the hit cartoon series »

First Poster for Priest

22 December 2009 1:30 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Paul Bettany is a busy guy at the moment with Legion coming out in the new year and this movie, ‘Priest’ in which he stars alonside Cam Gigndet, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Lily Collins, Steven Moyer, Brad Dourif, and Christopher Plummer.

Priest is directed by Scott Stewart, the same chap who did Legion so I’m guessing that Bettany and he got on pretty well. Thanks to Collider.com for sharing the poster, they also give us the synopsis:

Priest tells the story of a warrior priest (Bettany) who disobeys Church law by teaming with a young sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and a beautiful priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece before they turn her into one of them.  The film co-stars Karl Urban, Lily Collins, Steven Moyer, Brad Dourif and Christopher Plummer.

Priest is scheduled for release summer 2010. Click the poster to enlarge. »

First Poster for Priest Starring Paul Bettany

22 December 2009 11:12 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you look at some of the film’s Paul Bettany has done in the past several years: The Reckoning, The Da Vinci Code, Creation, Legion, and now Priest, the guy may have some interest in the inherent drama of the implications and applications of Christianity.  I could be totally off-base with this assumption, but then again, the first poster for Priest features him with a tattoo of a crucifix on his face while hellfire burns around him.  It’s possible that the film may not be the Pope’s favorite of 2010.

Priest has Bettany re-teaming with Legion director Scott Stewart in the story of a warrior priest (Bettany) who disobeys Church law by teaming with a young sheriff (Cam Gigandet) and a beautiful priestess (Maggie Q) to track down a band of renegade vampires who have kidnapped the priest’s niece before they turn her into one of them. »

A Preview of the Legion: Prophets Prequel Comic Book

22 December 2009 10:49 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Wow, is this the future of comic books? Artwork and dialogue translated into a digital version with “moving” art and added sound effects? Maybe I’m just a purist, but I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to “read” comic books this way. Also, I’m a pretty slow reader, and I like to get my fill of a page before I flip on to the next one, and I’m not sure if I want some video demanding I read faster. I’m just saying, it ain’t the boss of me. In any case, here’s a preview for the new comic book “Legion: Prophets” from Idw Publishing. “Prophets” is a prequel to the upcoming movie by Scott Stewart starring Paul Bettany as a fallen angel who comes to Earth to save humanity. Tough job, but someone’s gotta do it. In the supernatural action thriller Legion, »

Trailer: Legion – Motion Comic

22 December 2009 7:20 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

The Scott Stewart directed supernatural thriller  of Legion starring Paul Bettany looks like being a wonderfully violent and nasty film, and the trailer which debuted this summer had a nice vibe, sort of The Mist meets From Dusk till Dawn.

Recently we’ve seen a slew of motion comics, which is a process of animating the still frames of a comic book and now Legion has had the same treatment – and the trailer is now available below.

Paul Bettany does the voiceover for this and it looks to be a great accompaniment to the film which is released in January 2010.

Enjoy.

Priest Teaser Poster Channels Pulp Cover

21 December 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

You may have seen this image before, at Screen Gems' teaser site for the film, but here is the official teaser one-sheet released today for the studio's big post-apocalyptic picture Priest . I dig the look, like the image is ingrained on a ragged novel's cover. And yes, the man you see, Paul Bettany, does have a giant crossed tattooed on his face - in fact, all of the Priests featured in the film do. Scott Stewart recently wrapped production and is now in post. The film is set for an August 20 release, a week earlier than last reported. Click on the title link for a full synopsis. »
