With director Kenneth Branagh’s highly anticipated “Thor” adaptation set to begin shooting next month, actress Jaimie Alexander has been constantly updating fans with info from the upcoming film.
According to Alexander's Twitter feed, several members of the cast assembled in Los Angeles for rehearsals. “[I] met Anthony Hopkins today... Such a lovely man. Such a pleasure,” wrote Alexander. Later, she added “[I] can't stop staring at Thor's arms... Chris [Hemsworth] is Huge!”
Alexander also took the time to refute a growing rumor that Justin Chatwin (“Dragonball Evolution”) had been cast as Thor’s loyal ally, Balder the Brave. “Justin Chatwin isn't going to be in ‘Thor’,” revealed Alexander. “Just clearing up another rumor. Sleep well out there.”
Back in September, Alexander joined the cast of “Thor” as Sif, a fierce warrior goddess who has vied for Thor’s heart in the past. While Alexander has previously written about her intense »

Actress Jaimie Alexander has been one of the most faithful insider "tweeters" when it comes to updating comic book movie fans about the latest comic-to-movie adaptation coming out of Marvel Studios. A month ago, she used her Twitter account to announce the start of her stunt training for director Kenneth Branagh's live-action production of Thor, based on the comic book character from Marvel Comics.
In recent Tweets, Alexander has commented on everything from how she "can't stop staring at" the arms of the movie's star, Chris Hemsworth, to the guilt she felt over "accidentally punching Fandral" (played by Stuart Townsend) in the stomach. In her latest Thor tweet, Alexander debunked a recent rumor about the actor said to be cast in the role of Balder the Brave, a mainstay of the Thor comic book series and one of the few remaining supporting characters yet to be cast.

Opens: July 23rd 2010
Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Zach Galifianakis, Bruce Greenwood, David Walliams
Director: Jay Roach
Summary: A renowned publisher encourages his friends to invite the most pathetic guests possible for their weekly dinner party. Just as they find the most pathetic man yet, the host is injured and ends up trapped with the man all night long.
Analysis: A remake of director Francis Veber's 1998 César award-winning "Le Diner des cons", 'Schmucks' is one of the highest profile comedies of next year with one of the strongest casts for the genre in recent memory. It also marks the return of "Austin Powers" and "Meet the Parents" helmer Jay Roach who has produced several films in recent years but hasn't directed since 2004's "Meet the Fockers".
The question now lies not in the performers or director but the material itself and whether a Gallic comedy can »

Rene Russo has joined the cast of Marvel’s Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh. The comic book movie starts shooting this January for release May 20, 2011.
She is set to play Frigga, the wife of Odin (Anthony Hopkins), the Queen of Asgard, and the mommy of the titular character (Chris Hemsworth). I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is one hell of a cast. Even the supporting roles have named actors and actresses filling them.
Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Jamie Alexander (Sif), Kat Dennings (Marcy), Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), Stuart Townsend (Fandral), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Colm Feore, and Stellan Skarsgard.
I can’t imagine Frigga will be snatching too much screen time, but just knowing Russo is playing her is comforting. Like a warm hug from… Rene Russo.

Lately, Thor casting news has been hammered into us. We recently found out Natalie Portman has signed on as Thor’s love interest, along with Kat Dennings, Idris Elba, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano – not as Thor’s lovers, but as co-stars (would be interesting if all were his lovers, though).

Variety is reporting Rene Russo has joined the cast of the upcoming Marvel comic film, “Thor.” Russo will be playing Frigga, the mother of Thor, based loosely on Frigg of Norse mythology.
Production on the film begins in January of 2010 with Kenneth Branagh directing and Chris Hemsworth playing the hammer-weilding Thor. Paramount has set the release date for May 20, 2011.
As the wife of Norse god Odin, to be played by Anthony Hopkins in the film, Frigga is the queen of Asgard. She’s also the step mother of Thor and foster mother to Loki, the pic’s primary villain, played by Tom Hiddleston.
Natalie Portman will be playing Thor’s love interest.
I think Russo is a good actress and the cast is definitely taking shape, I’m just hoping they will all blend well together to make an awesome movie.

There are times when certain big name performers just seem to drop off the face of the earth... you hear their name a few years later and you instantly wonder "wow... whatever happened to them"?
One such name for me is Rene Russo who we haven't seen on the big screen since 2005's "Yours, Mine and Ours" in which she appeared with Dennis Quaid.
Well, she's back in a big way.
It is being reported that Russo has landed the role of Frigga, wife of Odin in the upcoming comic book film "Thor " being directed by Kenneth Branagh.
The movie already sports an insanely impressive cast with the likes of Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins (who will play her husband Odin), Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson and Kat Dennings.
"Thor" is set to thunder into theaters May 20th 2011.

By Zeus’ beard, it seems Rene Russo – one of Hollywood’s leading ladies of the 1990s – has joined the cast of Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Even more interesting is her character name: Frigga. She will be playing Thor’s stepmother and wife to Odin (Anthony Hopkins).
This particular Marvel venture begins shooting next month for a release in May 2011. Nobody ever expected Shakespeare-obsessed Branagh to be making a comic book adaptation. Is this part of the charm? His occasional forays into Hollywood in the past have been either disasterous or middle-brow. Perhaps the studio trust him with the grand theatrics.
Thor sees himself kicked out of Asgard after re-starting an ancient feud and goes to Earth in order to stop his nefarious and scheming brother Loki from taking over our planet. Branagh is an amazing visualist (just see Hamlet) so expect his Hollywood blockbuster to look stunning. Add a Patrick Doyle score, »

British actor and model Joseph Gatt may be the latest addition to the cast of “Thor.”
According to a statement posted on Gatt’s website, Gatt is “prepping for his most prominent job to date: a (secret) role in the forthcoming Marvel Studios film ‘Thor’, slated for release in 2011." However, this announcement has not been officially confirmed by Marvel at this time.
Gatt’s most prominent film appearance to date was in the 2006 horror film, “Pulse.” Gatt has also performed extensively as a motion capture actor on several video games, including “Lair”, “24: The Game” and "Driv3r" as well as “God of War II” and “God of War III.”
Thus far, speculation on Gatt’s role in “Thor” has centered on Skurge the Executioner, one of the earliest “Thor” villains who was often in league with the Enchantress. Neither character has been confirmed to appear within the film.

Ray Stevenson made his mark playing Titus Pullo in the incredible Rome series, but he also made a splash earlier this year playing the title character of Frank Castle in Punisher: War Zone. Unfortunately the film was a bit of a disaster critically and at the box office but he was perfectly cast and did his job right.
Stevenson has also played some cool characters in King Arthur and Outpost among many others, but the best is yet to come as we’ll be seeing a lot more of the growing star in the next few years with him being cast and working on a few big films including a role in the Denzel Washington starrer, The Book of Eli. For the Rome fans out there, a feature film based after the series is also in development so we can expect to see Titus Pullo back in action yet again. »

Yes the title was not a mis-print but apparently someone took the Pride and Prejudice story and set with zombies. Oh if Jane Austen was alive to see that happen. Now one of the most sought actresses in Hollywood, Natalie Portman, is set to star and produce Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an adaptation based on the bestselling book written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Austen.
Portman will play feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet, who is distracted from her quest to eradicate the zombie menace by the arrival of the arrogant Mr. Darcy.
Described as an expanded version of the Austen classic, the book tells the timeless story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.
“Natalie and I are longtime passionate fans of Jane Austen’s books and this a fresh, fun and thought-provoking way to approach her work, »

Stevenson is going from the rather stacked Punisher to the round Volstagg in Kenneth Branagh's Thor. Volstagg is one of the members of the Warrior's Three, which also includes Fandral (Stuart Townsend) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano). The character of Volstagg is obviously inspired by Shakespeare's Falstaff. However, he isn't as big according to Stevenson, "It's fantastic. I've tried the suit on, and what they've done is kind of sex him up: he's sort of slimmer but rounder." Everyone »

Ray Stevenson is packing on the pounds for the boisterous Asgardian warrior Volstagg, the actor's upcoming role in director Kenneth Branagh's "Thor" for Marvel Studios.
While the "Punisher: War Zone" star isn't readying himself for a fat-filled diet to play the rotund Volstagg, Stevenson did reveal that he'll nonetheless have plenty of gut to show off in "Thor" thanks to the aid of a bodysuit.
"It's fantastic," Stevenson told Empire Online of the suit. "I've tried the suit on, and what they've done is kind of sex him up: he's sort of slimmer but rounder."
It's hard to imagine the physically fit Stevenson as the flabby Volstagg, but at least it sounds like he'll be a closer match to the Asgardian's weight class thanks to the film's costume department. But even more important than Stevenson's physical likeness, it's essential that he understands the character. Luckily, it sounds like Stevenson has that covered, »

A month ago, it was revealed that Zachary Levi, star of the TV series Chuck, was forced to turn down the roll of Fandral the Dashing in Thor, director Kenneth Branagh's live-action adaptation of the Marvel comic book. The addition of six episodes to NBC's third season of Chuck prevented Levi from committing to the role, which ultimately went to Stuart Townsend.
Levi recently told TV Guide that it was a "bummer" to have to pass up the part, but said that he would be up for another superhero role, if Marvel would have him.
There's no way to slice it. I am Chuck Bartowski in a lot of ways, so to be able to not only be up for a really big movie, but to be up for a really big movie that is a part of the Marvel Universe, that Kenneth Branagh is directing, that Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins are in, »

Chuck star Zachary Levi has spoken of his disappointment at missing out on a role in Thor and says he hopes to be cast in Marvel's Captain America movie instead.
Levi, 29, said it had been tough to let go of his chance to play Fandral, one of The Warriors Three, in the Kenneth Branagh adaptation of Marvel's Thor comic book. As I reported earlier, he had to drop out when NBC ordered additional episodes of his hit comedy Chuck.
The actor had initially been asked to audition for the lead in Thor but declined because he felt he wasn't bulky enough to play the Norse thunder god.
Speaking to TV Guide about having to turn down the Fandral role, Levi said: "That was a bummer. There's no way to slice it. I am Chuck Bartowski in a lot of ways, so to be able to not only be up for a really big movie, »
