29 December 2008 8:09 PM, PST | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Madonna's "Sticky & Sweet" tour leads at number one on top 10 highest-grossing tour of 2008 in North America. Kicked off in August and wrapped up in November, the Live Nation-produced roadshow garnered $105.3 million in North America and more than $208 million worldwide.

Commenting on the news, Arthur Fogel, Live Nation's Chairman of Global Music and CEO of Global Touring, says that the tour's success has put Madonna as "one of the top selling touring artists of all time." He explains, "Not only will this tour be the top selling tour of all time for a solo artist and a female artist (eclipsing her own record), but it will position her as one of the top selling touring artists of all time."

Back on the list issued by concert trade magazine Pollstar, Celine Dion's "Taking Chances" tour lands at number two with $94 million ticket sales. Eagles and Kenny Chesney's concerts follow at number three and four respectively.

Oprah Winfrey Admits to Tipping the Scales at 200 Lbs.

9 December 2008 5:50 AM, PST | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

Having packed 40 pounds onto her former 160-pound self, Oprah Winfrey is declaring, "I'm mad at myself" because she's "fallen off the wagon." As the media mogul, 54, writes in the January issue of her O magazine hitting newsstands Tuesday (and provided in advance to the Associated Press by Winfrey's Harpo Productions): "I'm embarrassed … I can't believe that after all these years, all the things I know how to do, I'm still talking about my weight. I look at my thinner self and think, 'How did I let this happen again?' " For starters, the fact that her thyroid was out-of-balance

Ike & Tina Turner: Sing The Blues

4 December 2008 10:00 AM, PST | From Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news

Embattled husband-and-wife duo’s last independent-label recordings

Given Tina Turner’s claims about then-husband Ike’s abusive behavior, listening to this collection is downright chilling. When she sings Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long,” the pain and desperation in her voice are genuine. The ad-libbed vocal, “sock it to me, baby”—which she shrieks repeatedly toward song’s end—evokes violence both physical and sexual. The songs that comprise Sing The Blues (recorded by the Turners for indie label Blue Thumb in the late ’60s) are extremely telling: “Mean Old World,” “Five Long Years,” “I Smell Trouble,” Jimmy Reed’s “Baby What You Want Me To Do’” (here called “You Got Me Running”). Ike’s reprehensible treatment of Tina—echoed in the subject matter of these songs—frequently overshadowed his contributions as a rock ’n’ roll innovator and first-rate bandleader. But Tina’s instantly identifiable voice (slightly nasal,

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had a big night out at the Tina Turner concert in NYC on Monday night, but yesterday they were up and at 'em running errands with a sleepy Suri. Katie was lucky to have some time off to focus on her loved ones and famous holiday guests, since All My Sons was on a Thanksgiving break until their first performance tonight while Tom took Suri around the city. Katie needed a venti on her way to rehearsal today after all the family fun, but the multitasking mom probably wouldn't have it any other way. Suri must have had Monday night off, because Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes stepped out to Tina Turner's concert at Madison Square Garden without her. Instead, they hung with Anne Hathaway backstage, who was also on hand to check out the 69-year-old music icon's crazy costumes. Let's hope Katie doesn't get inspired by the freaky fashions. Tom, Katie, and Anne Let Tina Do the Entertaining

2 December 2008 11:00 AM, PST | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes joined Anne Hathaway backstage at the Tina Turner concert in NYC last night. Anne deserves a night of celebration now that Rachel Getting Married is leading the 2009 Independent Spirit Award nominations, including a best actress nod for her. Katie finally had a chance to relax on her night off from Broadway after a busy week with the Beckhams. We'll get to see more of Tom this Thursday when Barbara Walters interviews him for her Most Fascinating People of 2008, and he opens up about why he doesn't talk about his religion anymore after his Oprah couch-jumping experience. In the meantime, he seemed to be enjoying himself with his wife as he watched Tina perform for his second concert since October. To see more photos of Tom, Katie, Tina, and others just read more. Ex- Idol Contestant Found Dead Outside Paula Abdul's House

11 November 2008 11:15 PM, PST | From PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news

A former American Idol contestant apparently infatuated with Paula Abdul was found dead Tuesday night in a car near Abdul's Los Angeles house. Paula Goodspeed, 30, a Season 5 contender whose audition performance of "Proud Mary" was panned and mocked by the judges, appears to have died of a drug overdose, police say. "Ms. Goodspeed's mother had gone to [the sheriff's department] to report her daughter missing, and advised them that she might be suicidal," says Los Angeles police Capt. James Miller. "The sheriffs determined that Ms. Goodspeed may be up in the vicinity by Paula Abdul's house. Our officers discovered her vehicle parked on the street,

Interview: Arnaud Desplechin on "A Christmas Tale"

11 November 2008 7:46 AM, PST | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Aaron Hillis

November may be too early to call it, but as of now, this writer's favorite film of the year has more in common with "The Family Stone" or "Home for the Holidays" than most European filmmakers' oeuvres -- but it certainly ain't a product of Hollywood. Written and directed by the tremendously gifted, expectation-defying auteur Arnaud Desplechin ("Kings and Queen," "My Sex Life... Or How I Got Into an Argument"), "A Christmas Tale" doesn't just freshen up the holiday reunion melodrama. Rather, it reinvents the overplayed genre into a novelistic epic; a banquet of exhilarating sights and naked emotions; a rich ensemble piece so joyous and heartbreaking that any lucid description is bound to get a bit purple. Set in a provincial French town, the film introduces the fractious Vuillard family (including some of the country's finest actors: Mathieu Amalric, Chiara Mastroianni, Melvil Poupaud and Emmanuelle Devos

30 October 2008 4:00 PM, PDT | From Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news

Kate Moss was pretty giggly earlier today as she and her boyfriend Jamie Hince arrived at London's Heathrow airport. It was recently announced that Kate will be co-chairing next year's Costume Institute Gala, but right now they're heading to the Us, where Kate is rumored to be hosting a Halloween party. She was feeling festive earlier this week, and apparently she's on top of her costume — she and a friend are planning to be Tina Turner and Cher. Hopefully Jamie doesn't mind that they aren't dressing up as a couple, but clearly he's her preferred partner for traveling. To see more of Kate and Jamie as they begin their trip just read more.
