While Zachary Quinto cracked not much more than a knowing smirk while playing Spock in director J.J. Abrams' re-vamped Star Trek - out on DVD Nov. 17 -- "we did do plenty of laughing off camera," chuckles Quinto. Anyone who's seen the leaked gag reel from the movie that's an extra feature on the impending DVD (it's out Nov. 17) knows what he's talking about. "J.J. leads with a sense of humor," Quinto adds, "and that makes it a lot easier when you're undertaking something as large as this project was." So who had Quinto cracking up the most? "Simon Pegg »

Last month, while promoting his latest film, An Education, in the U.K., Cooper talked about the rumored prequel to Mamma Mia. “Unfortunately you say sequel, I’ve heard a terrible similar word beginning with a ‘p’, which absolutely outs my existence in it whatsoever, »

Another film we caught a promo trailer for was And Soon The Darkness, a really stylish film from director Marcos Efron that features two of the hottest babes in horror, Amber Heard (Mandy Lane, Zombieland, The Stepfather) and Odette Yustman (Cloverfield, The Unborn). Set in Argentina, the remake tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be. Adriana Barraza and Karl Urban also star. Check out new details and first stills below! »

Space. The Final Frontier. A place few were willing to venture with the last two Star Trek: The Next Generation helmed films. On virtual life support, J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot collaborators reinvented the iconic franchise into something hardened Star Trek fans and casual moviegoers without an ounce of prior interest in the series could equally digest and enjoy. His efforts carried Star Trek into a new frontier of success and riches at the 2009 box office, to a place where Paramount's treatment of the Blu-ray Disc release should . and marvelously does - fall into the esteemed category of exemplary.
Star Trek's reboot begins with a huge bang, a knockout prologue that chronicles the birth of James T. Kirk and the death of his father, a Starship Captain (for twelve minutes), all during a surprise attack by a renegade Romulan Nero (Eric Bana). Flash forward a quarter of a »

Overly-hyped horror flick Paranormal Activity bested its new spooky nemesis, Saw VI, to land in the No.1 spot at the box office this weekend.
In its fifth week, Paramount’s low-budget horror flick made another $22 million to earn a gross of over $60 million. Not bad for a movie that cost just $15,000 to make.
That’s bad news for Lionsgate as their latest installment in their franchise horror product came in at No.2 with $14.8 million. Is Jigsaw played out or is the media machine for Paramount working overtime?
Paramount originally released Paranormal Activity to a small selection of theaters across the country. Based on solid word-of-mouth combined with a large media campaign, a groundswell of people were told to “demand” that the film open in full release. It happened and now the little-movie-that-could has been the most talked about film since…well, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen…and for better reasons. »

This past Saturday, October 17th, I attended my second year of Spike TV’s annual Scream Awards. Not only did I attend, but I had been hand-picked by the casting director to sit front row center for the show! As a fan-focused awards show, it’s much more enjoyable being seated amongst Jj Abrams, Karl Urban, Elijah Wood and Woody Harrelson. My favorite personal surprise of the evening came when the Best Science Fiction Actress nominees were being announced. I cheered (maybe a little too loudly for my girlfriend’s tastes) for Eliza Dushku when her name was announced, only to discover she was sitting right in front of me. She turned around and flashed me her lovely smile. Good thing my girlfriend isn’t the overly-jealous type.
As for the show itself, it seems as though the winners have already been leaked online, and the best surprises have been revealed, »

There's some confusion in the Star Trek universe over when Star Trek 2 will arrive in theaters. Karl Urban, who played Dr. McCoy in the reboot, told Collider that "the hope would be mid next year ... mid to end next year," adding that it "would be great to have another Star Trek out for 2011."
Urban admitted he has heard that screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were turning in a script in December. Kurtzman confirmed to IGN that December was the date, but says that the deadline date has been moved.
Originally we were thinking we'd have to have it by Christmas, but the release changed. Certainly I'd say in the next eight months.
The writers continue to remain mysterious about what story the sequel will follow, with Orci saying they have no idea what the Star Trek 2 will entail.

The Hollywood vampire craze is leaking into comic book territory with the upcoming movie "Priest," an adaptation of the popular manga series. The film already has "Twilight" and "True Blood" credibility thanks to performances from Cam Gigandet and Stephen Moyer, but there's a sci-fi veteran is bringing a little bit of space into the movie as well.
Karl Urban, who played Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" last summer, is set for the villainous role of Black Hat, the leader of a pack of vampires that abduct the niece of the titular warrior priest and vampire hunter played by Paul Bettany.
Urban spoke out about his involvement in the film during a recent interview with Collider, describing the film as a mixture of all sorts of genres.
"I'm currently shooting a really wicked film called 'Priest,'" Urban said. "It's this really cool, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, »

True to its name, the Scream Awards is an award show where the winners are decided by the biggest scream, like talent shows of olden days, before text messaging and toll-free numbers were invented. In this case, Scream winners are decided by internet votes. It's not surprising to then see current trend-grabbing vampires dominate the show; but the awards, it seemed, are secondary. The highlights of the night are all the honorary awards, celebrating the legends of their own mediums.
It was a little disconcerting to notice that the award winners were all telegraphed by the adoring cheers of the audience, too. The more enthusiastic the cheers, the likelier for that person to win. Vampires are definitely in this year, with notable appearances/wins for Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire's Assistant and Let the Right One In.
The most telling part of the award show being entertainment first-recognition second is »

This past weekend, Spike TV held their annual Scream Awards (more on that later today), at the event the folks at Collider got the chance to talk to “Star Trek” and “Priest” actor, Karl Urban. The obvious topic on their fanboy lips was of course, Star Trek 2.
Urban starred in this year’s J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek as Leonard “Bones” McCoy, so who better to ask about part 2 right? According to Collider:
Urban said “It would be great to have another Star Trek out for 2011.” He explained a script is in the works and that co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman expect a draft to be completed by December. As far as details are concerned, Urban is just as anxious to see where the second film will take the crew of the USS Enterprise as we are.
Well I’m glad to hear it! Given the fan reaction »

At tonight’s 2009 Scream Awards (airing on Spike TV October 27th) I was able to interview a number of people on the red carpet. While I already posted my interview with Jackie Earle Haley talking about the Sinestro rumor, I also got to speak with Karl Urban and was able to get an update on the “Star Trek” sequel and “Priest”. According to Karl, the plan is still for a draft of the screenplay to be turned into the studio this December and he hopes to be filming mid to late next year. He said the hope is for the sequel to be released in 2011. And for fans of “Priest”, he talked about how that movie has been going. Watch what he had to say after the jump.

Being chased and terrorized by a rage-driven psychopath around and under a house would seem to be a pretty stressful situation, even if it’s just for a movie. But for Amber Heard, the young actress who co-stars in Screen Gems’ new remake of The Stepfather, it was all in a day’s work. “You know, it’s just like any aspect of my job,” she says of taking part in such cinematic mayhem. “It could be very weird, but because it’s so weird so often, it becomes very, very…unweird, if that makes sense. My job is funny that way, in that I come to set every day and there are plenty of crazy things going on. That’s not really one of them that sticks out.”
This statement won’t surprise anyone who has been following Heard’s career over the last few years. After attracting a »

Around these parts, we’re really looking forward to “Priest,” the currently-shooting adaptation of Min-Woo Hyung’s graphic novel series about mankind’s battle against fallen angels, starring such notables as Paul Bettany, Stephen Moyer, Maggie Q, Karl Urban, Christopher Plummer, Brad Dourif and Madchen (Loved you on "Twin Peaks!") Amick.
It also stars one of our recent on-screen faves, the fast-rising Cam Gigandet—and when we caught up with him recently, he said the flick was well-armed for success.
“I have very cool weapons,” he said of his character Hicks, who he has described as a boy “trying to become a man.” “I have an unbelievable knife; I have an unbelievable gun.”
With that kind of weaponry, and the badass motorcycles he clued us in to recently, it seems that Gigandet will have no problem earning his manhood on screen when the flick hits theaters next summer.

Maybe it's some sort of "Field of Dreams" thing, but apparently if you ask who should play Captain America, they will respond. And by "they" I mean every-freakin'-one.
Clocking in as the most popular poll we've ever run on Splash Page, our query regarding who should play Steve Rogers in "The First Avenger: Captain America" not only received a lot of votes, but it also generated quite a bit of discussion. We posted our thoughts on who's best suited to fill the role, so now it's time to reveal who you chose to play Captain America.
In the end, it was a close race between "Torchwood" star John Barrowman and "True Blood" actor Alexander Skarsgard—but Captain Jack Harkness prevailed, and Barrowman landed at the top of the tally with 36 percent of the total votes. Here's how the rest of the poll panned out, and a sampling of readers' explanations »

This week:
The box office is still Cloudy; Neve Campbell Screams again; Dourif and Plummer confess to a Priest; TNT give some Basterd’s $12 million and Paul Dano decides to Cruise with Diaz.
Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs retained the top spot and banked another $24.6 million over the weekend. The animated tale has now made a pretty good $60 million so far.
Bruce Willis had to settle for the runner-up position for Surrogates. The comic book adaptation made a so-so $15 million despite a trim 88 minute running time.
The Fame remake grossed $10 million over the weekend. There’s really nothing that I can say about this.
The Informant brought in a little under $7 million on its second weekend giving the new Matt Damon/Steven Soderbergh team-up $20 million in the bank so far. Off a slim 33% percent from last week means that this looks to have some legs.
