Tonight marks the final original episode of MADtv, at least on Fox. The network cancelled the show last December after 14 years on the air but that doesn't mean that the troupe is leaving gracefully.
The oft-ignored late-night comedy show has been a staple of some Saturday night rituals for nearly a generation. Current cast members include Crista Flanagan, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Lee, Arden Myrin, Nicole Parker, Johnny Sanchez, Erica Ash, Eric Price, Lauren Pritchard, and Matt Braunger.
This evening's swan song brings back alumni Alex Borstein, Mo Collins, Will Sasso, and Debra Wilson Skelton, and also features comic actor Fred Willard and stand-up comedian Artie Lang. In the spoof of American Idol's fundraising efforts, Willard hosts a telethon called "MADtv Gives Back."
Executive producer David Salzman tells the Daily News, "We tried to come up with a finale that is in keeping with MADtv's irreverent and un-self-serving way of doing things. »

Not since "Buffy" have I been particularly interested in televised teen-age shenanigans, but there's a new girl on the block named Gena Marshall. And in the upcoming dark drama "The Freshman", she leads viewers on a journey through the cliques and social standards of your not-so-modern high school. Ever hear "Don't trust the new girl"? In Gena's case it seems to be excellent advice because as soon as she shows up, her classmates start disappearing.
Filming of the one-hour pilot for "The Freshman" is set to start in Los Angeles in February, 2009. Kellan Rhude (pictured, Return to Sleepaway Camp), Aaron Perilo, Debra Wilson, and Janet Linn have already been cast with more to come. The pilot is being directed by Charles Clemmons from a script penned by Jillian Ashe.
Along with being shopped to cable networks upon completion, "The Freshman" will be available for download on iTunes. No other details on the project are available, »
