In case you hadn't heard, James Cameron's Avatar is the hottest film in the present marketplace (having raked in over $1 billion in a little over two weeks - wowza). Of course, a long-standing phenomenon both within and outside of the film market is the Twilight series. Last year, The Twilight Saga: New Moon made a pretty penny itself (sixty-odd billion pennies, actually), so it's quite suiting that one clever Photo Shop-er took it upon herself to transform New Moon's leading men, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, into Na'Vi - the signature species in Avatar. Pretty crafty, eh? Think they're still as handsome in blue? Goodness knows Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana could pull it off, but can Pattinson and Lautner? You b .. »

The following post was contributed by guest writer by Jeffrey Appelbaum. Jeff is a managing director at Buzzpoint, a social media firm in Los Angeles that specializes in creative online strategies for entertainment and technology companies.
2009 was a record year for Hollywood at the box office. According to the Nielson Co., total box-office receipts from the U.S. and Canada tallied more than $10.6 billion, which is approximately an 8 percent increase over 2008’s record of $9.791 billion. Not too shabby for a down economy.
The year’s slate included not only the usual surplus of sequels and adaptations (Transformers, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, etc.), but some Cinderella stories that defied all financial expectations (The Hangover, Paranormal Activity). However, while 2009 will certainly be remembered as lucrative year at the box office, it’s also the year that social media emerged as a make or break factor for box office success. »

Stephen Lang, Sam Worthington in Avatar (Mark Fellman / 20th Century Fox) James Cameron’s Avatar continues to keep the domestic box office abuzz even if overall figures have dropped dramatically now that the year-end holiday season is over. The sci-fi adventure epic earned an estimated $8.1 million on Monday, a 53.4 percent drop from Sunday according to Box Office Mojo. Avatar’s total domestic take currently stands at $360.2m. Partly thanks to inflation and 3D/IMAX surcharges, Avatar is now the 14th highest grosser of all time, ahead of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park (1993, $357.1m) and edging closer and closer to Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ (2004, $370.8m). Avatar, which today received a Producers Guild Award nomination, stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, [...] »

Award season. Some live by it, others (including the nominees) dismiss entirely. One things for sure, people (no pun) watch it. The one attractive aspect for the People's Choice Awards is how different they are from the so-called "experts." For example, the winner of the "Favorite Movie Award" and/or "Best Picture Award" will be drastically different. Personally, being a solicited critic for the award season, my choices seem to always fall somewhere in the middle. In other words, agree with the nominations, but can't understand the eventual winner. Here's what's on tap for tomorrow night's People Choice Awards, in the movie category:
Favorite Movie Actor
Brad Pitt, Hugh Jackman, Johnny Depp, Robert Pattinson, Ryan Reynolds.
This actually is a competitive category for all these guys were apart of successful films in 2009. Right away, one has to eliminate Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. If strictly women, who's age ranges from 9-55, were voting, »

I've been using the phrase "my mom" a lot lately in blog posts because we spent two weeks together over the holidays during which we saw four films. But allow me one more. After we saw Avatar, my mom immediately wanted to know Sam Worthington's name and suddenly paid attention to the Clash of the Titans poster hanging in the theater lobby. Is it possible that Avatar's billion-dollar appeal will help make the 33-year-old Aussie a sex symbol for all ages? Reached this afternoon, while she was getting her hair colored, my 62-year-old mother said yes. True, she »

Avatar star Sam Worthington is not going to play Flash Gordon. In late 2009, a super mysterious insider said that Worthington was being considered for the role of Flash in a Hollywood reboot, a long-rumored project that is mostly regarded as pure bullplop.
Worthington agrees: The Aussie actor set the record straight. “There is no validity to the rumors,” he said via email to AICN. “Sometimes studios tend to just scat ideas and they leak out – but its the first I have heard about it.”
In 1980’s Flash Gordon, heroic All-American Flash saves the world from the nefarious Ming the Merciless in this lavish, intentionally campy adaptation of the famous sci-fi comic strip. The story is as basic as space operas get: Ming (Max von Sydow) has developed a plan to destroy the Earth, and Flash (Sam J. Jones) and his attractive companion, Dale Arden (Melody Anderson), are called upon to stop him. »

A Na’vi love making session between stars Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington never made it into blockbuster movie, “Avatar.” But the deleted scene and others will be included in a special edition DVD that will make seeing the film a must, all over again. The James Cameron directed “Avatar” has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide, and could challenge the biggest grossing film of all time, Cameron’s “Titanic” before all is said and done. But “Titanic” had some help from steamy sex scenes between stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, who also appeared nude in the film. »

They are 10ft tall, blue-skinned and inhabit the distant moon Pandora some 145 years into the future. But the Na’vi, a species of extraterrestrial eco-friendly hunters in the smash hit movie Avatar, have already made cinema history by raking in $1billion at cinema box offices in just three weekends. The fantasy extravaganza, starring Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington, is the fastest movie ever to break the billion mark and ranks, already, as the fourth highest grossing film. Produced by Rupert Murdoch’s Twentieth Century Fox film studio, Avatar, is a tale of imperialism, environmental recklessness and military might that chronicles an effort »

Sam Worthington in Avatar (Weta / 20th Century Fox) The Academy is probably hoping that Oscar voters will follow the Producers Guild of America‘ lead, as their top-ten list features one mega-blockbuster, James Cameron’s Avatar (more than $1 billion worldwide), and no less than four blockbusters: J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek, Pete Docter’s Up, Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds and Neill Blomkamp’s District 9. The rationale is that bigger movies are supposed to result in bigger TV ratings. Cameron’s Titanic raked in solid viewership numbers back in 1998, but it’s been mostly downhill from there. Last year, the Oscar ceremony got an audience bump that was credited to the presence of teen heartthrobs Robert Pattinson (fresh off of Twilight) and Zac [...] »

Stephen Lang, Sam Worthington in Avatar (Mark Fellman / 20th Century Fox) (top); Gabourey Sidibe, Paula Patton in Precious (Anne Marie Fox / Lionsgate) (middle); George Clooney in Up in the Air (Dale Robinette / Paramount) (bottom) James Cameron’s Avatar, J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek, and Neill Blomkamp’s sleeper hit District 9 are three science-fiction films included in the Producers Guild of America’s list of nominees for best narrative feature of 2009. Two other major box-office hits were included in the list as well, Pete Docter’s animated Up and Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, in addition to a couple of smaller but successful productions, Lee Daniels‘ Precious and Jason Reitman’s Up in the Air. Also included were critics’ favorite The Hurt Locker, [...] »

Sam Worthington is now certifiably the biggest movie star in the world at the moment (so long as you count him, and not phosphorescent trees, as the actual star of Avatar). Does that mean we're now officially excited to see him play Perseus in Clash of the Titans? WB sure hopes so, because Worthington is front and center in all the images recently snagged by Collider. Some you've seen before, and none really tell you much beyond "this is a Clash of the Titans remake with better special effects," but Sam Worthington is a star now, so you must bow down. Check out a few of them below, and see the rest (including a few older ones) at Collider. I don't really know what to say beyond the fact that Worthington looks good with a buzz cut, which we already knew from Terminator: Salvation and Avatar, and, uh, I wouldn't »

It was obviously going too swimmingly well for James Cameron and his big screen return with blockbusting behemoth, Avatar. The sci-fi epic starring Sam Worthington was happily breaking box office records galore, getting people bigging up 3D cinema and earning some Oscar hype, but now the inevitable backlash has begun, taking the unexpected form of cigarettes. Yes, scenes starring Sigourney Weaver’s scientist Dr Grace Augustine taking a drag have caused outrage with health experts, Stanton A. Glantz, the director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education complaining that, “This is like someone just put a bunch of plutonium in the water supply,” on the damage done to his Smoke Free Movies initiative. However, never one to sit back and take it, Cameron’s come back fighting. »

James Cameron's latest blockbuster "Avatar" has already grossed over $1 billion worldwide, and that's without the benefit of any steamy sex scenes. However, that doesn't mean that one wasn't shot. Actress Zoe Saldana, who played the female lead, the Na'vi alien Neytiri, told a group of reporters that they did indeed shoot a sex scene between her and male lead Sam Worthington, but it was not included in the final product because Cameron felt it would push them past a PG-13 rating. Zaldana described how the Na'vi do the deed: If you sync to your banshee and you're syncing to a tree, why not sync into a person? I almost feel like you'll have the most amazing orgasm, I guess. It was a very funny scene to shoot because there were so many technical things that sometimes you have to »

From MTV.Com: At first glance, the pair would seem to be miles apart. Leonardo DiCaprio is arguably the biggest movie star in the world, a three-time Oscar nominee in the prime of his career, a fiercely private all-American actor whose name can get any script the green light. Sam Worthington is an endearingly outspoken British/Australian veteran roughly the same age, positioned as "the next big thing" for some time and only now breaking through with a series of high-profile flicks.
To some, however, history may be repeating itself. A little more than a decade after DiCaprio became a household name with "Titanic," a billion dollars' worth of moviegoers have now seen Worthington's face in "Avatar." With that in mind, here are three reasons why King of the World James Cameron might be once again playing kingmaker — and three others why Sam will never reach Leo's heights:

Sam Worthington is currently playing the role of a marine and an avatar in "Avatar" but the buff (and handsome) actor's next big project is just around the corner.
"Clash of the Titans" comes to AMC Theatres on March 26, 2010. While principle photography has been completed, there will some re-shoots taking place later this month. We might even see "Titans" in 3D.
Screen Rant and Collider put up some new images from the film. You can check out some of them below and see the full versions over at those two sites.

Matt Goldberg over at Collider.com has scored some great photos from the upcoming re-envision of the classic Clash of the Titans. While I am not anxious that this will be trash, I do wonder how they will fold in what has been done before. The classic film is such a thing of beauty for what it was and to re-make something like that could harm the original.
For those of you who have no idea what this film is about (shame on you) here is the synopsis:
The ultimate struggle for power pits men against kings and kings against gods. But the war between the gods themselves could destroy the world. Born of a god but raised as a man, Perseus (Sam Worthington) is helpless to save his family from Hades, vengeful god of the underworld. With nothing left to lose, Perseus volunteers to lead a dangerous mission to »

Clash of the Titans is one of Screen Rant’s top 10 most anticipated films for 2010 and as we approach the spring release date, we’re seeing more and more released for the film showing off its star Sam Worthington, especially now that his other starrer, Avatar, has hit it big.
Collider put up some new photos from Clash of the Titans last night, however half of the photos we posted about back in October and aren’t new – they came from Empire Magazine. The (actually) new images show off the movie’s star and highlight the vast set design constructed for the shoot, allowing for practical and more realistic backgrounds.
