Exclusive: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck May Direct The Tourist After All

18 hours ago | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

The Angelina Jolie/Johnny Depp thriller The Tourist is one of Hollywood's hottest projects, and it's something of a hot potato. Jolie and Depp replaced Charlize Theron and Sam Worthington, respectively, and until recently, Oscar-winning director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) was attached to direct. Last week, though, several outlets reported that von Donnersmarck was off the picture and that Alfonso Cuaron and other directors were circling the project in advance of a February start. I caught up with von Donnersmarck on the red carpet of the Behind the Camera Awards last night, and when I asked him what had happened with The Tourist, his answer surprised me. »

New TV Spot for Avatar

8 November 2009 3:31 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

We’ve had a couple of trailers now for James Cameron’s Avatar and so far it’s focused more on the battle with the Na’vi. This new TV spot was released on the Cartoon network and has a nice Disney-style voice over on it where we get to see a bit more footage. The British Board if Film Classification (BBFC) hasn’t rated the movie yet as far as I can tell but after this appearing on the Cartoon Network, I assume it’ll be a PG or a 12a. More info as we get it.

Avatar stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver and if you haven’t seen the trailer already, you can view it here. Counting down the days now for Avatar – 18th December is it’s release date.

10 Most Fascinating 'End of the World' Movies

8 November 2009 4:59 AM, PST | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

There are many theories, ideas or should I say 'schools of thought' on how the world would end. At the height of the Cold War, nuclear annihilation ranks at the very top. While others argue it will not be man who will destroy the world (directly) but - an epidemic of global proportions (most probably from a potent strain of virus - think: I am Legend) or severe climactic change (another ice age perhaps? That would be Day After Tommorow right?) or mechanical uprising (The Terminator, anyone?) or even attack from the outside - conquering aliens (Mars Attacks!) or perhaps an asteroid. And let's not forget zombies!

Johnny Depp enters the revolving door of The Tourist

7 November 2009 4:05 PM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

If you follow the production of films you will soon become aware that many changes often take place on the journey from script to celluloid.

But even by those standards, The Tourist has gone through a surprising number of cast and crew members coming and going.

The latest to arrive through the project's revolving door is Johnny Depp, who is now in talks to play the lead role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Initially, Bharat Nalluri was on board to direct the thriller, with Tom Cruise in the lead. Charlize Theron was set to co-star.

But then Cruise left and Sam Worthington was brought in as a replacement.

After that, Charlize Theron departed and in came Angelina Jolie. Bharat Nalluri dropped out and the studio brought in German director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck.

Following that, Sam Worthington dropped out and von Donnersmarck moved on. Alfonso Cuaron is now heading for the director's chair. »

Alfonso Cuaron to Direct The Tourist Starring Johnny Depp

6 November 2009 2:16 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Although Y tu mamá también was Alfonso Cuaron's breakout film in terms of proving his talent and putting him on Hollywood's radar, it was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men that made him an instant favourite among fantasy and sci-fi fans. Of course, Children of Men was released back in 2006, and Cuaron hasn't really done much since then outside of producing. Now this week it looks like his next directorial gig may finally be falling into place, picking up the pieces of a potentially high-profile project that has gone through multiple changes to cast and crew. If all goes according to plan Cuaron will direct The Tourist, a remake of the 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer, about an American vacationer in France who is unwittingly used as a decoy for a French spy. Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck (The Lives of Others) had previously been attached, »
