Susan Sarandon And Tim Robbins' Split, 'Crazy Heart' And Stray Peacocks In Today's Twitter-Wood

23 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Jeff Bridges' performance in "Crazy Heart" was good enough for the Golden Globes, and it was good enough for Rob Zombie as well, judging by his tweets. Kevin Smith, meanwhile, had a positively-used expletive to describe his own experience watching Edgar Wright's unreleased "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

Less giddy was producer Jeff Katz, who used a sports metaphor to express his reaction to news that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split. I'll let you parse and interpret that one, as his references to Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno went a little over my head. You can do so after the jump where you will also learn about Ice-t's recent "Modern Warfare 2" accomplishments, when Emmy Rossum will begin taking trapeze lessons and who found a stray peacock in their back yard. It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood report for December 23, 2009.

21 December 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

This has been a bad holiday season for untimely deaths around Hollywood, and none have been more unexpected than actress Brittany Murphy's on Sunday. Alyssa Milano, Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton and virtually everyone else with a Twitter account associated with the entertainment industry has something to say about Murphy, and there's a rundown below.

The other big nationwide news of the past weekend has been the massive snowstorm pounding the East Coast. "Twilight" actress Christian Serratos was one of those who had her travel plans derailed by the frozen precipitation dump, on Washington, D.C. You can find those posts after jump along with Fred Durst's "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" clan name and Neil Gaiman's undead lawn ornament. It's in the Twitter-Wood report for December 21, 2009. Jonah Hill’s ‘21 Jump Street’ Movie Gets ‘Cloudy’ Directors

21 December 2009 3:15 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Jonah Hill (Funny People, Superbad) who has been working on an update of the 80’s television show 21 Jump Street for Sony, has announced that the movie is in negotiations to sign it’s directors. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed September’s Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, are potentially signing on, according to the Hollywood Reporter blog.

For the duo, who have also written for shows How I Met Your Mother, created MTV’s Clone High and Extreme Movie, this will mark their first time directing a live-action feature. Fans of Clone High may also remember Lord as the voice of the deranged Principal Scudworth.

The new version of the undercover teenagers high school drama, as described by Hill in Complex Magazine, will be “an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie.” With Hill executive producing and probably starring, along with writer Michael Bacall, currently on the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. »

Brittany Murphy Tweets From Peter Facinelli, Paris Hilton And Others In Another Twitter-Wood Early Edition

21 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Earlier today, we brought you an early edition of Twitter-Wood packed chock-full of celebrity praise for James Cameron's sci-fi epic, "Avatar." It's a much more tragic set of circumstances that brings me back to you with another Twitter-Wood early edition.

"Clueless" star Brittany Murphy left us suddenly over the weekend, the victim of a heart attack at the too-young age of 32. The breaking news resulted in an outpouring of grief and sympathy for Murphy's family from around the celebrity Twittersphere. I'll let the people who knew her take it from here...

@ParisHilton So sad to hear about Brittany Murphy, such a tragedy. She was such a beautiful, funny and sweet girl. My heart goes out to her family.

21 December 2009 12:28 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Universal Pictures have just sent us a lovely Christmas email which, as well as sending us Christmas cheer, also reveals the release date and synopsis for Edgar Wright and Michael Cera’s new movie, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.  The email also contained a new image of Michael Cera wielding a light sabre.  The movie also stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Satya Bhabha, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Alison Pill, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Johnny Simmons, Mark Webber, Mae Whitman, Ellen Wong and is based on the Oni Press Comic Book series by Bryan Lee O’Malley.

The date in question for this anticipated movie is 27th August. The synopsis gives us a better idea of what we can expect:

Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22 year-old has just met the girl of his dreams… literally. The »

If you've been waiting patiently to learn when you can finally see Edgar Wright's adaptation of cult graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim, here's an early festive treat - the film will arrive on August 28th.The Playlist got hold of an email greeting sent out by Universal, which revealed the release date (the Us date is still in flux, but current thinking points to either the same day or possibly a week earlier).   For those who have let the Pilgrim mania wash past them, there was also a handy primer on the plot of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World included in the message: "Meet charming and jobless Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera). A bass guitarist for totally average garage band Sex Bob-omb, the 22 year-old has just met the girl of his dreams... literally. The only catch to winning Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead)? Brittany Murphy Memories, And The 'Avatar' Actor Who Should Play Cable In Today's Twitter Report

21 December 2009 10:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Sin City" actress Brittany Murphy's death at age of 32 yesterday stirred up reactions in the Twitter Report feed. Shock about her age pervaded many posts, but Kevin Smith probably stated his condolences the most eloquently.

Rob Liefeld came out of his "Avatar" screening marathon over the weekend with a new pick to play Cable on the big screen, and any X-Men movie producer sitting down with him in the near future can expect to hear the name Stephen Lang. Check out those tweets after the jump along with Jon Favreau's visit with "Iron Man 2" actor Mickey Rourke, Edgar Wright's time-travel plot and much more.

It's all in the Twitter Report for December 21, 2009.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Due Out in the UK on August 27th; First Official Synopsis Released

21 December 2009 9:09 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Folks in the UK can break out their calendars and clear a space for August 27, 2010 because The Playlist is reporting that’s the day Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is scheduled to hit theaters.  However, the film is scheduled to hit France on August 18th.  It’s possible that Universal could be staking out August 20th for the Us because they released Inglourious Basterds on the same weekend this year and it worked out pretty well.  Of course, release dates are always subject to change, but if this date holds and also applies to the Us, Scott Pilgrim will have some interesting competition (provided other released dates hold as well).  While nothing is currently holding August 27th in the Us, The Expendables is due a week before on August 13th, would go up against The Baster starring Jason Bateman and Priest starring Paul Bettany, and then The American »

Anna Kendrick: The Hollywood Interview

21 December 2009 8:34 AM, PST | The Hollywood Interview | See recent The Hollywood Interview news »

(Anna Kendrick and George Clooney, above, in Up In The Air.)

By Terry Keefe (Currently appearing in this month's Venice Magazine.)

Anna Kendrick has always excelled at playing the smartest person in the room, and one who you definitely want to watch your back around. We were introduced to Kendrick in her big-screen debut, Todd Graff’s Camp in 2003, when she played young teen actress wannabe Fritzi Wagner in a notable supporting role. Described by one adult character in the film as a “scary little girl,” Wagner begins the story as a mousy sidekick to blonde theater star diva Jill (Alana Allen), but then manages to quite literally push Jill off the stage in a fierce All About Eve-style turnaround. In 2007, Kendrick won critical acclaim for her work as manipulative high school debate champion Ginny Ryerson in Rocket Science. Like Fritzi Wagner, Ginny Ryerson had a freaky air of intelligence well beyond her years, »

Edgar Wright Talks Scott Pilgrim Music and Reveals Some Soundtrack Details

20 December 2009 2:56 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Update: A musical artist was incorrectly attributed as Kevin Canning, but no such person exists. The track played was by Brendan Canning and Kevin Drew. This afternoon, Edgar Wright took the airwaves with a two hour music show on the BBC's 6 Music, something they called A Month of Matinees... With Edgar Wright. As well as playing an awful lot of soundtrack cuts from old TV shows and films, he also spilled a little bit of information on the music for his upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Early in the show he played five tracks by six artists who have music in the film. These were Metric; Kevin Canning as a representative of The Broken Social Scene; Handsome Boy Modeling School on behalf of Dan the Automator; the beautiful, brilliant Cornelius remix of Beck's Mixed Bizness; and Frank Black doing I Hear Ramona Sing. 18 December 2009 12:14 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

"Alien" screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's death was the trending topic of the Twitter Report feed this morning. The writer, who also penned "The Return of the Living Dead," made his way into memorial tweets from Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Dave McKean and many others who took O'Bannon's contributions to sci-fi, horror and film to heart.

Elsewhere in the overlap between comics and film, Brian Michael Bendis tweeted some optimism about the film adaptation of his graphic novel "Fire," which now has a mystery actor attached. Warren Ellis accused him quickly thereafter of having had his Twitter account hacked by Mark Millar.

It's all there, along with Chris Ryall's thoughts on the Idw holiday party, Jock's gift from DC and some wisdom from Popeye the Sailor Man in the Twitter Report for December 18, 2009.

The new "Iron Man 2" trailer lit up the comics Twitterverse last night, and if that shocks you, you have haven't been paying attention for the last year. Brian Michael Bendis, Phil Hester and Edgar Wright all posted their reactions, and Bendis even went a step further explaining how he might be turning his child into a supervillain.

The tweets weren't all gleeful in this morning's feed, though, as the death of Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry made its way to the trending topics as well. You can read about that after the jump, in addition to which webcomic creator will be speaking at MacWorld 2010, what James Jean's latest art creation looks like and how many times Rob Liefeld plans on seeing "Avatar" this weekend.

Roy Disney's death today was big news in Twitter-Wood, where a lot of folks have been affected by his work and commitment to animation over the course of their careers. It's certainly appropriate that "Toy Story 3" director Lee Unkrich was among the first to post his condolences.

And speaking of animation, Danny DeVito made it onto the guest list for the "Avatar" premiere tonight, and took a picture of his excitable foot to prove it. His "Twins" co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger posted

pic, too, from over in Copenhagen where he's meeting with folks for the U.N. Climate Summit. "Scott Pilgrim" director Edgar Wright has posted a new photo from next year's live-action adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit series, and the new shot offers the first good (though slightly skewed) image of Michael Cera as the film's title character, as well as several other cast members in costume.

Wright posted the photo (actually a photo of a photo) on his Flickr stream this week, and you can see a larger version of it there.

The image features "Scott Pilgrim" characters Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera), Ramona V. Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Young Neil (Johnny Simmons), Knives Chau (Ellen Wong), Kim Pine (Alison Pill), and Stephen Stills (Mark Webber).

Edgar Wright Debuts First Scott Pilgrim Image

Today, filmmaker Edgar Wright is basically in the world for your amusement. First he and his fellow Shaun of the Dead visionaries Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reunited for a photoshoot for Total Film, in which the magazine staff played zombies and the three heroes dressed in white tuxedo jackets and laughed the whole thing off. Then on his blog, Wright took a photo of the first still from his next film, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. You can see both images below, starting with Scott Pilgrim, a shot that includes much of the main cast-- Michael Cera, Mary-Elizabeth Winstead, Alison Pill and more. Slashfilm also has a "fixed" version of the photo that's slightly easier to see. The film isn't finished yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if we started hearing rumors about a trailer coming soon.
