The Harry Potter series is something that has been running at the same time as the book were being written, and it’s hard not to wonder how much one commented and shaped the other. J. K. Rowling has suggested certain things be in the film because of end payoffs, and now we can see what she was hoping for as the books are done. With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I think it’s fair to say that this film isn’t the sixth film in the series, even though it is, but meant to be the start of a trilogy. My review of the sixth Harry Potter episode will continue if you click the continue reading link (I dare you).
Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) has grown up and is almost nearly on his own, but dealing in the aftermath of the last film’s mess, which involved Sirious Black getting killed. »

Why, start thinking about what’s around the corner, of course!

Hollywood can't be set asunder from sequels. The facts that popular characters are more appealing to moviegoers and there is less risk involved in presenting a follow-up rather than releasing new film have attracted more and more filmmakers to bring out one sequel after another whenever a movie performs well with the audience.
Such is happening in 2010. The year will see many of best movies from previous years springing out with sequels in competition to dominate the box office. From the hilarious "Meet the Fockers" to the action-packed "Iron Man" and from children's series "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" to terrifying "Scream 4", they all get the chance to present more stories and adventures in the life of people's beloved characters.
With those sequels being offered, AceShowbiz compiles only the 10 not-to-be-missed ones in the upcoming 2010. Each sequel listed weighs on how the original films performed »

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince it finally hits home that Warner Bros.' phenomenally successful cash cow is starting to come to its conclusion. The battle between the boy wizard Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his ghostly nemesis Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes) nears its climax during the student's sixth term at Hogwarts, and for all the twists, turns and surprises the revelation that the end is nigh might just be the most startling one of all.
This comes from the point of view of someone who has not always been this series' biggest fan. I wasn't impressed with director Chris Columbus' first two chapters, their sluggish pace and simplistic storytelling drove me nuts. Yet Alfonso Cuarón's magnificent third entry (still the best of the bunch) blew me away, Mike Newell's follow-up felt more like a John Hughes meets J.K Rowling hybrid than it did anything else. »

Opens: 2010
Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech
Director: Renny Harlin
Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.
Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.
Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Jaap Buitendijk / Warner Bros.) (top); Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner in The Twilight Saga: New Moon (Kimberley French / Summit Entertainment) What were the biggest international box-office hits of 2009? Below are a couple of samples: David Yates‘ Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, had the highest-grossing international five-day opening weekend ever, with $236 million. The latest edition of the franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s fantasy novels went on to earn $627.4m in the international market. (That’s the world minus the Us and Canada.) Such recent franchise horrors as Terminator Salvation are a reminder of the continuing high quality of this series, now in its sixth episode. Its effects are invariably special, particularly the destruction of London's Millennium bridge after it turns wobblier than its real-life incarnation (Death Eaters are to blame). As usual, there's a vast list of characters and a lengthy playing time (153 minutes), but with David Yates at the helm for his second Potter, it has a relaxed, confident feel. On this form, you can look forward to Yates's HP7 and 8. Extras include an emotional and insightful 45-minute "Year in the Life of Jk Rowling".

Chicago – “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” is one of the most visually striking films of a year filled with achievements in great cinematography. I love Deakins’ work on “A Serious Man,” Richardson’s on “Inglourious Basterds,” and Christian Berger’s on “The White Ribbon,” but Bruno Delbonnel (who also lensed “Amelie”) has helped produce one of the most aesthetically remarkable films of the year, easily the most interesting interplay of shadow and light yet seen in a “Potter” film. Naturally, it makes for a great fit with the 1080p of Blu-Ray.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
After shuffling directors for four installments in a row from Chris Columbus to Alfonso Cuaron to Mike Newell, the “Harry Potter” series settled on the relatively unknown David Yates for the final four films (“The Order of the Phoenix,” “The Half-Blood Prince,” and the two-part “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows”).

A trio of theatrical hits squared off for home video supremacy this week, and the wizards of Hogwarts vanquished them all. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince topped the DVD sales charts in its first week in stores, the week ending December 13. The David Yates film easily outsold its nearest competitor, Michael Mann's Public Enemies, which finished in a distant second place on the sales charts, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince outselling Public Enemies by a massive four-to-one margin. Public Enemies did manage to secure a win on the rental charts, with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince taking in about 74% as much rental revenue as this week's winner. The only other notable new release was Julie & Julia, which finished in third place in DVD sales and fourth place in rentals.Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince scored another victory on the Blu-ray sales charts, »

A series of films based on a wildly popular series of books walks the tricky line between total fidelity to appease the fans and making the hard choices to create a successful movie-going experience. The vast majority of your audience, the filmmakers presume, have read the source material and/or seen the previous films in the series, so can take for granted that much of the backstory is understood, negating the need for extensive crawls, flashbacks, or expository scenes.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released to its eager audience in 2005, but moviegoers had to wait four years before the film version was released. This film opened two years after the last film so the trick for director David Yates was in knowing how much needed refreshing for the audience. After all, some of us read the book only once; others may only know the film version. The movie, »

If the Harry Potter fandom camp was ever united in public opinion on the film adaptations they never made that concordance known. Some stand by the earliest two films for their loyalty to the original vision while others (and I would say rightfully) deplore them for including even the smallest minutiae which had no place on the silver screen. It’s a toss-up and as a whole the Harry Potter film series varies wildly in quality, but opinion seems to be pretty unanimous when it comes to David Yates’ takes on the 5th and 6th books of Rowling’s popular series: the man’s getting it right.
Right from the get-go Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has one of the most interesting set pieces in the series; a trio of death eaters streak through the murky London weather twisting the Millennium Bridge until it breaks and “abducting” Draco Malfoy »

Daniel Radcliffe is stripping down again ... several times. But what about Emma Watson?
As the Dish Rag previously reported, in the upcoming "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" film, Radcliffe will be getting naked for a scene in which his character Harry and friend Ron (Rupert Grint) battle a monster. The creature uses magic to project an intimate scene between Harry and a woman.
Who's the mystery woman? Their friend Hermione (Watson), with whom Ron is in love, reports the UK's Telegraph. Best friend's girlfriend!
"We'll create something that feels very sexy and very intriguing to bring about a reaction in Rupert," says director David Yates.
Strangely enough, there's no talk about Watson taking off her clothes in the scene, so perhaps she won't be doing the Full Monty. In the past, she's said she'd go nude for certain acting jobs, but not anytime soon.
As we already know, Radcliffe »

From "Terminator" to "Twilight," any movie franchise is going to see some turnover in the director's chair, and you can't expect these franchises' stars not to play favorites among these helmers. Both Kristen Stewart and Kellan Lutz, for example, have picked Chris Weitz as their top "Twilight" director.
By the time it wraps up in 2011, the "Harry Potter" series will have seen four directors helm its eight films. Tom Felton, who plays baddie Draco Malfoy, said his favorite is David Yates, the man who's been in charge since 2007's "Order of the Phoenix" and who will bring the franchise to a close with the two-part "Deathly Hallows" finale.

From MTV.Com: Perhaps the two biggest questions surrounding "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the two-part finale of J.K. Rowling's book series, are how filmmakers will handle the author's flash-forward postscript and what in the world Potter-philes will do when there are no more novels or films to look forward to.
The answer to that second question remains to be seen. But what will director David Yates do about the ending? Following the epic Harry vs. Voldemort smackdown, Rowling jumped ahead almost two decades to catch up with her characters in the future. For the big-screen adaptation, does that mean older actors will portray Harry and the rest of the grown-up students? Or that the young stars will be aged through makeup effects or CGI technology?
