A new, action-packed video clip has been released as part of a series promoting writer-director Michael J. Bassett's new movie, Solomon Kane. While the title character name may not be very familiar to some, Solomon Kane actually comes with a strong pulp-fiction pedigree, having been created by Robert E. Howard (Conan).

Actor James Purefoy (HBO's Rome) stars as Solomon Kane, a 16th-century Puritan who once fought evil, but renounced violence to save himself from damnation. When evil rises once again, Kane is inexorably drawn into a conflict that could cost him his soul.

Solomon Kane also stars Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite, and Alice Krige.

New Solomon Kane Clip Reveals the Face of Evil, and it’s Stitchy

15 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Fresh off last week’s “Solomon Kane” Hall of Mirrors clip, here’s another one from Michael J. Bassett’s fantasy/action movie, which features the Crowthorn family (played by Rachel Hurd-Wood, Pete Postlethwaite, and Alice Krige) being captured in the forest by the bad guys, led by a fellow wearing what looks like a badly sewn-on hood, with Kane (James Purefoy) racing to the rescue. Or at least, we hope he picks up a sword, cause things look like they’re about to get pretty messy. Based on the creation of Robert E. Howard, the creator of “Conan” and “Kull”, Solomon Kane is a 16th century Puritan who owes his soul to the devil, forcing him to redeem himself by fighting evil. And in case you missed it, here’s the Hall of Mirrors clip: »

See A Brand New Clip From ‘Solomon Kane’

11 December 2009 1:30 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

The upcoming film Solomon Kane can’t seem to catch a break. Casting allegedly began back in 2001, when it was announced Christopher Lambert (Highlander) would be taking on the Pulp role. That version eventually died out, and the project went on the shelf for several years.

Later, in 2007, it was announced that James Purefoy (Rome) would take on the titular role, with British director Michael Bassett handling the directing duties. Principal photography began in early 2008, and the film wrapped nearly a year later. The film has been completed for quite some time, but has yet to find a Us distributor, which means we may never get to actually see it in theaters.

With that said, other countries are still planning on a late December/early January release date, and with that comes some great marketing and clips from the film. After the jump, check out the brand new “Hall of Mirrors” sequence, »

Clip: Solomon Kane vs. the Hall of Mirrors

11 December 2009 8:23 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

A clip from “Solomon Kane” has popped up online. It has Kane (James Purefoy) and some of his not-so merry men walking through a room full of supernatural mirrors. Or at least that’s what you’d call it when things can pop out of said mirrors and eat you. It’s a minute long and doesn’t really “climax”, but you get the idea of what director Michael J. Bassett is going for with the movie in terms of look and feel. The film itself doesn’t seem to have a U.S. release date yet, though IMDb.com has it scheduled to open in France later this month. You’re probably looking at a 2010 Stateside release. Based on the creation of Robert E. Howard, the creator of “Conan” and “Kull”, Solomon Kane is a 16th century Puritan who owes his soul to the devil, forcing him to redeem himself by fighting evil. »

New Solomon Kane Clip Online

We're feeling quietly optimistic about Solomon Kane, Michael J. Bassett's screen introduction of Robert E. Howard's (Conan, Red Sonja) evil-vanguishing 16th century puritan adventurer. With its Hammer films vibe (and taste in hats) it's looking like everything Van Helsing should have been but wasn't.James Purefoy takes the lead, with support from the likes of Pete Postlethwaite, Max Von Sydow, Alice Krige and Mackenzie Crook, and Bloody Disgusting have got hold of a short clip, extending the glimpses of the hall of mirrors scene we saw in the trailer. Click here for some reasonably creepy mirror-ghoul action, and dialogue that actually includes a "silence, you dogs". Been a while since we heard that one. The film is released in the UK on February 5th. »
