‘Submerged’ DVD Review

Stars: Jonathan Bennett, Talulah Riley, Rosa Salazar, Samuel Hunt, Cody Christian, Giles Matthey, Denzel Whitaker, Willa Ford, Mario Van Peebles, Tim Daly | Written by Scott Milam | Directed by Steven C. Miller

Horror movies that trap a character or group of characters in one confined location can be quite effective in the right hands, and two of the best recent examples are Adam Green’s Frozen and Rodrigo Cortes’ Buried. It’s quite impressive to see what a filmmaker can do with such a limited set of resources, and both Green and Cortes pulled incredible amounts of suspense out of premises that seemed destined to sink. As for Steven C. Miller’s attempt to do the same, well, it just kind of sinks.

Written by Scott Milam and directed by Miller (Silent Night), Submerged centres on a group of young characters who are quite literally trapped in a limousine at the bottom of a canal.

Film Review: ‘Submerged’

A “high-tech limo” forced off a bridge traps six people at the bottom of a river in “Submerged.” Though one might anticipate slow-burning claustrophobia and dread from that concept, director Steven C. Miller and scenarist Scott Milam’s thriller is actually a bit frenetic with intrigue, flashbacks, shrill behavior and a dry-land action climax. The IFC Midnight release, which gets a limited theatrical launch Nov. 27 in New York and Los Angeles, will serve primarily as passable small-screen rental and cable fare.

Matt (Jonathan Bennett) is the first to regain consciousness after his vehicle has been forced into the drink by armed pursuers. Still conked out next to him is Jessie (Talulah Riley), daughter of local corporate tycoon Hank Searles (Tim Daly), for whom he works as driver and bodyguard. Presumably Jessie’s rich-girl status and Daddy’s unpopularity in levying widespread local layoffs led to the armed kidnapping attempt they

Lautner And Collins Split - Report
Taylor Lautner has split from his Abduction co-star Lily Collins, according to a U.S. report.

The Twilight hunk reportedly started dating the 22 year old on the set of the action movie earlier this year.

They couple has declined to speak out about the romance but their co-star in the film, Denzel Whitaker, confirmed they were an item, saying, "It's kind of like that teenage love in high school. It was kind of like, 'Let's go on a date'... I think the chemistry's naturally going to show... It was off set so it definitely came on set."

But now the couple has parted ways, according to UsMagazine.com.

A source tells the website, "It was a clean break that Taylor initiated. At the Abduction party, it was awkward. They barely said a word to one another."

The stars are currently promoting Abduction at premieres on both sides of the Atlantic.

Taylor Lautner Enjoys Doing Sexy Scenes With Lily Collins

Taylor Lautner confessed that he loved doing steamy scenes with his co-star and rumored girlfriend Lily Collins in "Abduction". Taylor plays Lily's love interest in the anticipated action-thriller movie, and they had to shoot some intimate footage together in it.

"There's a steamy scene or two [in the film] and we definitely just had to dive right into it," the "Twilight Saga" hunk told Ryan Seacrest in a radio interview on Wednesday, September 21. As for their on-screen chemistry, he gushed, "Oh, boy, you know, I would say, pretty good."

Aside from talking about his sexy moments with Lily in "Abduction", the 19-year-old actor also said that he was "absolutely" a big fan of the "Snow White" actress' father Phil Collins even before he met her. "[That] definitely wasn't a huge talking [point in] conversation. But he's a legend. So it was pretty cool," he said.

Taylor and Lily have been rumored to be dating since they

Exclusive: Denzel Whitaker Talks Abduction
During last night's Hollywood party for the Blu-ray and DVD release of X-Men: First Class, I got to speak with young actor Denzel Whitaker on the red carpet. Denzel Whitaker stars in the upcoming thriller Abduction, portraying Gilly, the best friend of Taylor Lautner's main character, Nathan. Here's what he had to say about Abduction on the red carpet.

"Gilly is Taylor Lautner's character's best friend in the film. Taylor's character, Nathan, sort of gets into some trouble, where he sees his picture on a missing persons website. That sort of spawns the whole action throughout the movie. Basically, my character is the one dude he can trust, his best friend, he knows he's not going to turn on him."

I told him that when I first heard about the movie, that I had this thought in my head that he Nathan was kidnapped at birth by who he thinks are his parents.

Rumours linking the two young stars romantically have been rife for weeks, but neither Twilight star Lautner nor Collins have been talking about it.

However, their Abduction co-star, Whitaker, has gone on the record about it.

He tells EOnline.com, "It's kind of like that teenage love in high school. It was kind of like, 'Let's go on a date.' They were willing to go bowling. It wasn't all about the relationship, it was more about having fun with each other and I think any time that's the premise of your couple, it's going to go great."

Whitaker tells the website he saw the sparks flying between the smitten stars at the very first table read: "I think the chemistry's naturally going to show... It was off set so it definitely came on set."

But Whitaker insists he has no idea whether or not the romance lasted after filming wrapped. The couple's representatives have refused to discuss the stars' private lives.
