It looks like things are ready to rock and roll for supernatural thriller Voice from the Stone as The Ring leader Hideo Nakata signs up to direct.
Expected to start shooting in spring-summer time, Voice from the Stone is adapted from the Italian novel of the same name and is scripted by Friday the 13th writer Mark Wheaton.
The film follows a psychologist who takes on the case of an orphaned boy who swears he will remain mute until his mother's spirit returns. The psychologist soon realises there is more than just professional curiosity drawing her to the child, and that she has been manipulated by the mother's spirit to bring her closer to her son.
The film sounds right up J-Horror-master Nakata's street. We look forward to being sufficiently freaked out once again with his take on the Italiano psycho-thriller.

Hideo Nakata is set to direct the supernatural thriller "Voice From the Stone." Nakata directed the original Japanese version of "The Ring" ("Ringu") and the English sequel "The Ring Two" starring Naomi Watts.
Mark Wheaton ("The Messengers," "Friday the 13th") has written the screenplay based on an Italian novel of the same name. The story revolves around a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy who made a promise to his dying mother. The promise? He will remain silent until her spirit returns. Tan dan dan...
Nakata is the perfect choice to helm this project. "Voice From the Stone" has a strong female character and a perturbed young boy at its core, much like "The Ring" films with Watts' Rachel protecting her young son Aidan (David Dorfman). »

Japanese director Hideo Nakata is most famous for directing the original versions of the “Ring” movies, or “Ringu” as its known overseas. He loved directing ghost ladies who climb out of TV’s so much, he returned to the franchise in 2005 to direct the sequel to the American version starring Naomi Watts. (And, I suppose, the nice paycheck didn’t hurt, either.) With “Ring” still apparently popular (though I suppose that’s open to debate), Nakata is currently attached to direct the third entry, which is scheduled for 2011. Before that, though, Nakata is helming “Voice from the Stone” for Zanuck Independent. Based on an Italian novel of the same name, “Voice From the Stone” was adapted by Mark Wheaton, and tells the story of a female child psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy. Nothing creepy there, right? Not so fast, my friends. You see, the hook »

Hideo Nakata, the scariest man in Japan, is back to his usual spooky, pant-wetting tricks with the news that he's to direct Voice From the Stone, a supernatural thriller based on an Italian cult classic novel. The plot involves a female psychologist as she starts a case concerning a boy who won't speak - supposedly because of a promise he made to his recently deceased mother not to utter a word until 'her spirit returns'.We're not sure what that means or how exactly your spirit might return (Self-addressed coffin? Shaped as boomerang?) but it has something to do with the psychologist being inhabited by the mother's ghost, someway, somehow. We'll have to find out once the film's released, or buy the novel it was originally based on, which was written for the screen by Mark Wheaton, writer of Friday The 13th and The Messengers. It will be produced by »

Variety reports that Hideo Nakata, who helmed the Japanese Ringu chillers among others as well as the American The Ring Two, will direct Voice From The Stone for Zanuck Independent. The project is based on the Italian cult novel La Voce Della Pietra by Silvio Raffo.
The story concerns a female psychologist treating a young boy who has vowed to remain silent until his deceased mother’s spirit returns—and discovers that the mother’s ghost intends to use her body as the vessel to live again and be reunited with her child. Former Fango contributor Mark Wheaton, whose credits include The Messengers and the Friday The 13th remake, wrote the script. Shooting will take place next spring/summer for producers Dean Zanuck, Stefano Gallini-Durante, Oliver Simon and Daniel Baur. »

When Japanese director Hideo Nakata dropped The Ring on us several years ago, he basically introduced horror audiences to what would become to be known as J-Horror. Hundreds of films concerning little girls dressed in white with long black hair later, the man himself is ready to spin another ghostly tale.
Variety reports that Nakata has signed on to direct Zanuck Independent's supernatural thriller Voice from the Stone.
The film will be based on the Italian cult novel of the same name, and the story centers upon a female psychologist who takes on the case of a young boy who made a promise to his dying mother to remain silent until her spirit returns. The psychologist begins to realize that the boy's dead mother has manipulated her in order to take possession of her body so she can be reunited with her son. While we have yet to confirm this (so please take it as rumor for now), we're being told that John Carpenter will be getting behind the camera for Fangland, a film set up as a starring vehicle for Oscar winner Hilary Swank (The Reaping). She would play a TV producer who travels to Romania for an interview with a notorious European arms dealer. Turns out, he's a modern-day Dracula. John Marks, writer of the novel, is a former "60 Minutes" producer. Mark Wheaton (The Messengers) penned a previous draft. Carpenter is in post-production on The Ward, which stars Amber Heard. »

A few months ago I was in a meeting with my colleagues at Paradox Entertainment to talk about the direction of the Robert E. Howard properties that they own, including Solomon Kane, which I write, and Conan and Kull, on which I consult.
We also did Pigeons from Hell with them, a Joe Lansdale adaptation of the Reh horror yarn. Fred Malmberg, the guy at Paradox with whom I’ve worked from the beginning, back in 2003, comes from a Swedish gaming company, which has grown into a production company in Los Angeles. They’re developing the Howard properties for film, and they’ve got their hands in a few other things. Even knowing that, I was shocked when Fred told me he was producing the American remake of Let The Right One In (review). It completely derailed our Howard meeting, because I couldn’t stop talking about the Swedish film. »

I never knew blood on a fence could be so catastrophic! Usually, you just wash it off with water and soap, or paint over it if you’re lazy and rich. Never would one suspect that if you take a garden hose to your bloody fence that it could cause the Black Plague to come around and kill you and your neighborhood. And for those sickos that hate their neighbors, that’s not half bad either.

I have to admit, the cover for The Cleaners does not speak the language of Dark Horse Publishing. It’s a double take on the shelf, which is not a bad thing, but it is art that doesn’t really say, “I’m a Dark Horse book.” And that’s »

Friday the 13th (2009) Directed by: Marcus Nispel Written by: Damian Shannon, Mark Swift and Mark Wheaton Starring: Jared Padalecki, Aaron Yoo, Danielle Panabaker, Amanda Righetti When it comes to horror franchises, there are few that can compete with the sheer longevity of Friday the 13th. While I don't think anyone would ever call the series particularly consistent, after 11 installments there is little debate over just how timeless a villain Jason Voorhees has become. Even younger generations are familiar with the iconic hockey mask, and a remake has been long overdue. After a few years of false starts, the newest re-envisioning of the series has finally hit the big screen, ready to capitalize on the calendar-based marketing gimmick all over again. But can »

You may not be familiar with The Cleaners, a new horror comic from Dark Horse, but we’re aiming to fix that. Earlier today I posted my interview with the book’s writer, Mark Wheaton, and now we’ve got an exclusive look at early art from Issue #3, which hits stands in March, 2009!
The story follows a trauma scene clean-up crew headed by an incredibly cool, intelligent former doctor. Their usual routine of cleaning up the aftermath of vicious murders or disease outbreaks is interrupted when some very strange evidence shows up in the middle of a suburban neighborhood. Where the story is going is beyond me, but after two issues I’m dying to know!
