When news surfaces that a movie needs to undergo reshoots, it's usually a sign of trouble. So when word got out that A Nightmare on Elm Street needed the reshoot treatment, fans got nervous. Producer Brad Fuller quickly responded via his Platinum Dunes blog to explain what was happening.
While many of you are enjoying a Christmas break, I am working everyday on Elm Street. I have read all the rumors and want to make sure that you have the facts. We are doing a couple of days of reshooting Elm Street. People seem to be making a big deal about that fact. Elm Street is our 8th film and we've had reshoots for every film. As I have stated here many times, I try to read everything and I pay attention. The fans input has always been so valuable to me, and Elm Street is no exception. I don't »

Friday the 13th Part 2, as previously announced, would arrive in 3-D on August 13, 2010, with a script from Friday the 13th screenwriters Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. That has changed, and not for the better.
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Warner Bros. has removed the sequel from its 2010 schedule. The movie's current release date is schedules as "Tbd" or "to be determined." The move may not particularly close the door on the sequel, but could simply mean that Warner Bros. wants to find a director ready for the extensive preparation that a 3-D movie requires. However, that may not satisfy fans who have a long time to wait to watch Jason terrorize Camp Crystal Lake visitors again.

It was no surprise that Marcus Nispel's Friday The 13th was a disaster. After all, it was a) a remake, b) a mainstream horror film and c) produced by Michael Bay. Despite only making $65 million domestically and plummeting more than 80% in its second week, a sequel is already slated for an August release next year. To quote Kevin Smith, "In Hollywood, you just kind of fail upwards." The sequel will be the 13th film featuring the character, but if the most recent reports can be trusted, the hockey-mask wearing serial killer might be getting put down for good. Spoilers! Pajiba has reported that sequel writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have been tasked with ending Jason Voorhees' reign of terror once and for all by killing him off and ending the franchise for good. No more slaughters at Camp Crystal Lake, no more trips down to hell, no more »

While New Line Cinema has already announced an August 13, 2010 release for Friday The 13th: Part 2, it appears the film has yet to get the go-ahead. "Still hoping for some good news that will take us back to Crystal Lake," Platinum Dunes producer writes on his Twitter page. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift - who penned the remake and Freddy Vs Jason - are currently penning the sequel. In addition, he also updated the status of A Nightmare On Elm Street exclaiming, "on the mixing stage working on Noes." Freddy Krueger returns on April 30, 2010. Sam Bayer directs. »

The box office for the Friday the 13th reboot made nearly triple its production budget in the United States alone, starting with a $42-million opening weekend, yet no sequel has been announced — until now.
Bloody-Disgusting reports that Friday the 13th Part 2 is on the way and will arrive in theaters on August 13, 2010. BoxOfficeMojo has listed the sequel as being "in 3-D."
Yet, when answering a question about the possible use of 3-D and a snow setting for the sequel on his Twitter page, Friday producer Brad Fuller said the movie isn't officially being made yet.
we don't have a greenlight from the studio so until that happens i don't know what it will be.
So there's no Friday the 13th Part 2 then? Or just no 3-D? Fuller further clarified his comment in a statement to ShockTillYouDrop.
I can't tell you anything about 3-D because New Line has not green lighted »

New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. made it official today. Friday the 13th Part 2 , a sequel to this year's Friday the 13th , is slated to hit on August 13, 2010. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form tipped us off back in June right here , that if all goes according to plan, that was the date they were looking at. Fuller stresses to us, however, that the sequel still does not have a greenlight. Damian Shannon and Mark Swift will return to write. And Derek Mears will absolutely be back to reprise his role as Jason Voorhees, contrary to the many wild rumors running around on the web. »

Warner Bros. has acquired most of Midway Games’ library in bankruptcy court, report the trades. Some of the video game franchises the studio now holds the rights to are Mortal Kombat, Spy Hunter and Joust, as well as several others. The video game company filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year. Sumner Redstone, head of Viacom/CBS Corporation, had sold his 87% stake to Mark E. Thomas last year for only $100,000 along with the assumption of $70 million of Midway debt. Warner Bros. hasn’t yet revealed its plans for the company. It could mean we’ll be seeing another Mortal Kombat flick or the development hell-stricken Spy Hunter film. The first Kombat film opened in 1995 with a sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, in 1997. A third has been rumored for the last few years. The first attempt at a Spy Hunter film came in 2003 when Universal acquired the rights to the property from Midway. »

While Friday The 13th may officially be out on DVD this week, Ryan Rotten over at Shock Till You Drop decided to check in with producer Brad Fuller on the status of the sequel, currently being penned by returning writers Damian Shannon & Mark Swift. "If we're going to do another Friday the 13th we want to present something audiences haven't seen before and one of the things they haven't seen before is Jason in the snow. We just want to bring things they haven't seen before, but that doesn't mean the [entire] movie will not be set in the snow."
Despite the success of the movie on opening weekend, a sequel has still not officially been green-lit, but if they were to go into production shortly, Fuller admits they're aiming for a August 13th, 2010 release date.

Earlier this year, Jason Voorhees returned with a vengeance. Platinum Dunes' reboot of the "Friday the 13th" franchise slashed its way to a $19 million opening day on Friday, February 13, on its way to a $40-plus million opening weekend. "You can never expect that to happen," acknowledges producer Brad Fuller. "We can't imagine that we'll ever have an opening like that again. We've love to, but that's one for the record books." But records are made to be broken and Platinum Dunes is in development on a "Friday the 13th" sequel, with Damian Shannon and Mark Swift working on a script. Speaking with a select group of reporters on the set of their upcoming remake/reboot of "A Nightmare on Elm Street," Fuller and producing partner Andrew Form sound proud of the achievement on the »

Producer Brad Fuller has revealed details about the possible sequel to Friday The 13th. The follow-up was reported to have begun development earlier this year, with screenwriters Mark Swift and Damian Shannon attached to work on the script. According to Hit Fix, Fuller, who is also overseeing the updated version of A Nightmare On Elm Street, said that the key to the second instalment's success lies in the way hockey-masked killer Jason Voorhees dispatches his victims. He said: "If we're vulnerable on [the first film], it's that people thought our kills weren't clever enough, so whatever we need to do to make (more) »

Getting his start in the 1995 Robert Kurtzman film The Demolitionist, Derek Mears has steadily built a solid career as an in-demand stunt performer, and big screen baddie. Earlier this year, Mears stepped into one of the most iconic roles in horror cinema as the latest man behind the famous Hockey mask of Crystal Lake's most deadly resident.
As the new Jason Voorhees, Mears slashed his way through multiplexes this spring, and will soon enter your home as Friday The 13th arrives on DVD and Blu-ray next Tuesday. Fangoria caught up with the actor this week to talk the past, present, and future, for a man that went from Horror Fan to Horror Icon.

Nobody ever said getting an indie comic book to the big screen was easy. Unlike established franchises, creator-owned books tend to jump through more than a few hoops and can often see numerous options before realizing their cinematic potential.
Case in point: B. Clay Moore (”Billy Smoke“) and Steve Griffin’s supernatural detective tale, “Hawaiian Dick.” Published by Image Comics, the tropical ’50s noir property was picked up by New Line Cinema in 2004 and renewed again in 2006 with director Frank Coraci (”Click”) attached to direct. The option has since lapsed, but according to Moore, it’s not the end of the story.
“The option on ‘Hawaiian Dick’ expired (after being renewed) with New Line, so technically it’s an available property,” Moore told MTV News. “Having said that, there’s some work being done behind the scenes to move it forward as a feature film. We’ll see where it goes, »

Remakes, remakes, remakes! With so much horror remake news already receiving so much attention across the Web, it seemed like a wise idea just to do a recap here at ESplatter. We've got some news on the second "Friday the 13th" film from Michael Bay, a 3D "Birds" remake, and foreign remakes from Sam Raimi. First up, "Friday the 13th Part 2 - the Remake." The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Biz Blog let it be known that the sequel is a go. Jason's coming back. The villain who's defied death more often than Evil Knievel is making another appearance on the big screen. Sources saying that New Line and Platinum Dunes are moving forward on a new “Friday the 13th" and that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the recently released reboot, beginning work on a script for a new picture. There's a catch, though. Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, »
