Christopher Smith’s Triangle Region 1 DVD Cover Art and Specs

9 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Speaking of Melissa George, ever wondered what happened to her and director Christopher Smith’s mind-bender of a horror movie called “Triangle”? I’ve been dying to see this thing ever since I heard the premise and saw the trailers for it, and it’s a shame the film has bypassed theaters completely in the States. Oh well, there’s always the DVD. In this case, the Region 1 DVD from First Look Studios will land Stateside on February 2nd in standard DVD and Blu-ray. Alas, the DVD specs are pretty barebones, which is a shame, because I’ve found that crew audio commentaries are usually the best things about horror movies. More often than not, they tend to have lots of fun making the movie, especially if the film turns out to be pure crap, though I’m sure “Triangle” doesn’t fall into that category. Probably. Then again, I haven’t seen it yet, »

New stills from British gothic horror Black Death

6 November 2009 6:21 AM, PST | 24framespersecond.net | See recent 24FramesPerSecond news »

This one pretty much does what it says on the tin. We’ve tracked down some new stills for Christopher Smith’s upcoming gothic horror - starring Sean Bean - Black Death. Those in the know will recognise Smith’s name as the brains behind several of our fave horrors of recent years, among them being the recently released ‘Triangle’ and the hilariously dark, horror comedy ‘Severance.’ Still in post production, Black Death is due out next year. Annoyingly we can’t direct link to the pics as they’re embedded in a Flash slideshow. But here’s how to see them. From the link select “completed films,” “fiction,” then “Black Death.” »

Triangle (Film Review)

26 October 2009 4:05 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Triangle starts out with a premise that would fit any Sy-Fy original: when passengers out on a yacht hit sudden stormy weather, they seek refuge on a mysteriously abandoned ocean liner. You've seen it in Virus, Ghost Ship, Ghost Voyage and a dozen other bad movies. What you don't expect is where writer/director Christopher Smith is going with it and the compelling lead performance by Melissa George.

After they abandon their capsized yacht, Jess (George) and her friends come aboard the ocean liner, which has food, drink and everything they could possibly want. Unfortunately, there's also a bag-headed killer picking them off one by one with a bloody ax. Who this killer is and their motivation for targeting Jess and her friends is the interesting twist in Triangle.

It's a time travel movie, and they are slated to keep dying again and again, unless Jess can figure out a way to break the cycle. »

Christopher Smith's Favourite Cult Horror Films

20 October 2009 1:25 AM, PDT | Rotten Tomatoes | See recent Rotten Tomatoes news »

Bristol-born director Christopher Smith is fast cementing his reputation as one of the most exciting British horror directors working today. Making his directorial debut in 2005 with Creep, he showed that there were scarier things on the Tube than a sweaty armpit in your face. His follow up, Severance, proved that Smith was just as adept at laughs as at scares. His latest, Triangle, starring Melissa George, is played purely for mind-bending chills, and tells the story of a group of people who, after running into difficulties whilst yachting, take refuge on a seemingly abandoned cruise ship. As ever, things... »

Frightfest 2009 Review: Triangle

28 August 2009 5:05 AM, PDT | Twitch | See recent Twitch news »

The 10th anniversary of Frightfest kicked off in style last night at the huge Empire Cinema in Leicester Square, a more than fitting venue for another year of the best, strangest and bloodiest horror films from around the world. Better still that the slate launched with the world premiere of Brit director Christopher Smith’s Triangle. Somewhat appropriately his third feature, Triangle, is a fantastical, psychological horror that follows Creep and Severance as another alternate slant on familiar genre conventions. Triangle tells the story of six friends on an ill-fated yachting trip in the Atlantic that goes awry by way of a freak storm upturning their boat. When a huge liner, the SS Aeolus, happens upon them there’s some short-lived relief as they seek refuge from the ocean aboard the mysterious ship. Once on deck though, it proves deserted and the unaccountably disturbed Jess (Melissa George) has a decidedly creepy sense of déjà vu. »

Frightfest 09: Review of Christopher Smith's labyrinthine yachting horror Triangle

Year: 2009

Writers: Christopher Smith

Review by: Ben Austwick

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

[Editor's note: And so begins our Frightfest coverage thanks to our awesome London correspondent Ben!]

Christopher Smith is one of the rising stars of British Horror, his so-so debut “Creep” knocked into a hat by the success of his second feature, the very funny horror comedy “Severance”. They're very different films, but have in common a brazen, magpie attitude to their influences and a trashy, ironic feel. Triangle similarly flies its influences with no apology, but swaps the gore and laughs for tightly plotted thriller tension and a complicated, twisting storyline that could annoy if it wasn't so bizarre. The lengths it goes to to confound and confuse make this a very exciting film and a big step forward for Christopher Smith, despite an empty feel familiar in films that rely solely on plot mechanics.

I'd like to coin the term Yachting Horror to explain Triangle's set up, »
