Rest easy, Daniel Radcliffe. Zac Efron is not taking over the controversial starring role in the Broadway play Equus. "No," said Efron, 20, debunking Internet reports claiming that he would be replacing Radcliffe. "I think it's a great role but I was not approached." For the time being, the High School Musical star says he's sticking to films. But he is looking to branch out from musicals. "I think it's important to always diversify, change it up and play different characters," he said Sunday at a press conference for High School Musical 3: Senior Year. Latest: High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens has dismissed reports her co-star and boyfriend Zac Efron was attacked during a recent night out in London - insisting she was the one who was set upon by a middle-aged man.
The 20-year-old hunk was said to have been making his way through a throng of screaming fans as he left the Apollo Theatre with Hudgens on Wednesday after checking out Hollywood star Josh Hartnett's performance in a stage adaptation of Rain Man, when a man in his 40s pushed through Efron's security team and tried to grab the star's hair.
But Hudgens insists the man attacked her - and left her with a cut and bloody cheek.
She tells Access Hollywood, "I actually got hit in the face! If anything, I was the one who got attacked, not Zac."
"There was a guy who was walking down the street and I think he was a little drunk and he got pushed into the craziness of it all. He was blocking the door so our bodyguard had to push him aside."
She adds, "I looked in the mirror and got a huge scratch and I was bleeding."
And Efron also admits he wasn't at the centre of attack, insisting he didn't even realise the man had set upon them until he saw Hudgen's wound in their car.
He adds, "I just heard about it. I was just focused on (the) van door - I've gotta get to it. I got in the van and we drove away. I don't remember getting harassed."

Actress Ashley Tisdale has blasted rumours her High School Musical co-stars are jealous of the romance between Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
Efron and Hudgens began dating after they appeared together in the first installment of the film franchise.
But Tisdale, who plays Sharpay Evans in the hit movies, insists their relationship did not cause any problems on-set.
She says, "Vanessa and Zac are a great couple. We're all like brothers and sisters on the set so there's no jealousy about their romance.
"It's very sweet to see them so romantic and none of us mind seeing them like this together. They are as much in love off-screen as they are in HSM. There's such a great chemistry that it is like a fairytale."

Everywhere he goes, frenzied crowds of girls scream Zac Efron's name. But Ashley Tisdale isn't one of them. "I've never looked at Zac that way because he's always been like a younger brother to me," the 23-year-old High School Musical star tells Britain's Daily Mail. "Girls go crazy over him, but I've just never been attracted to him in that way." The problem? "I'm three years older than him," she says. "That makes a major difference when you are young." And while she concedes that Efron – who turns 21 on Oct. 18 – is "definitely hot," Tisdale just can't see him as a heartthrob.

Actor Zac Efron is leaving his High School Musical days behind him to hit the books at a California university.
The 20 year old has reportedly signed up to study at the University of Southern California early next year.
Efron initially applied to the school in 2006, deferring his admission to focus on his acting career and the hit teen musical franchise, according to U.S. magazine Star.
A source tells the tabloid: "Zac wants to earn a college degree. Despite his success as an actor, it's one of his goals."
Earlier this week (beg06Oct08), the pin-up insisted he's a college natural - because he's a self-proclaimed nerd.
He said, "I got good grades at school - in fact, you'd have called me a nerd."

Zac Efron is scared of losing his success - so is seeking career advice from Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp.
The actor shot to fame in the High School Musical franchise and also appeared in the hit movie Hairspray.
But Efron admits he could still "mess up" and is calling on the esteemed actors for advice.
He tells Entertainment Weekly, ''I would love to just sit down and talk with Leonardo DiCaprio and Johnny Depp and pick their brains about their early careers.

A wax model of young actor Zac Efron has been unveiled on Thursday, October 9 at Madame Tussauds in London. The fake figure, representing his character, the basketball team captain Troy Bolton in the film "High School Musical 3: Senior Year", is dressed in red basketball costume with a ball on his right hand.
Cheerleaders from British dance troupe Storm were among the first people striking poses with Zac's wax model soon after its launch. The smiling figure is placed on the front of, what looked like, a giant poster of the musical-romance flick.
On the same day, Zac was photographed arriving at Lax Airport with actress girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens by his side. The Disney co-star couple was seen walking side-by-side through the terminal, following a promotional trip in the U.K. for the premiere of the third installment of the movie.
