Oscar talk is already all-year round (as if you don't know yet!), but it seems to me, the focus remains on the established performers - most notably the filmmakers and the lead actors and actresses (Streep, Dench, Day-Lewis, Eastwood, Scorsese). Some tMF readers remarked that perhaps it's great to talk about awards where the recipients are the younger performers. Of course, it has happened before when young talents (which means not older than 30) get the recognition they deserved.

tMF takes a look at some of these winners - from the Oscars to the BAFTA to the Indie Spirit, the European Film Awards and more and asks should younger actors win more awards and why?
Young Oscar Winners and Nominees: The following either won or got nominated and are still not over 30 today: [correction made on Anna Paquin's award]

Not only are they capable of lighting up the silver screen, they are also some of today's most talented young actresses, commanding huge fees - in some cases, in the millions. Many have won multiple awards, while others have starred in some of today's biggest box office hits. In short, we're listing down the cream of the crop!
Just like our recent Top 50 hottest young actors, we've narrowed down our list from 88 to 50, and set an age limit. If you miss seeing some of your favorites, so do we - including Maggie Gyllenhaal (31 years old) and Amy Adams (34 years old). Definitely some of the names you'll see on the list are emerging talents - the ones you will see getting the big roles in the near future - and some of them already have, with awards and nominations to boot.
Here's the updated Top 40 list! You'll definitely notice the international flavor! »

Apr 17, 2009 Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's Half Nelson was one of the best films of 2006 and yet I somehow approached their follow-up Sugar with trepidation. Maybe it's the fear of the sophomore slump. Maybe it's the vastly different kind of material I knew this sports drama would be. Maybe it's my own ignorance at assuming that they couldn't do it again without the incredible performances by Ryan Gosling, Shareeka Epps, and Anthony Mackie to anchor their drama. Mere minutes into Sugar, I felt those concerns dissipate. I don't think this is quite the masterwork ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com »

As I just wrote in the intro to my Sam Rockwell and James C. Strouse interview, even though I’m busy traveling up and down the east coast doing interviews and a set visit for Collider, I’m forcing myself to finally post the last of the exclusive interviews I did at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. And after the one you’re about to watch with Rob Corddry…I’ll only have one left! Since most of you know who Rob Corddry is…let’s just cut to the chase. The interview you’re about to watch was done at Sundance for his movie “The Winning Season”. In the film he plays the principal. For those that haven’t heard of the film, it stars Sam Rockwell as an adult misfit who is brought on to coach the local girl’s high school basketball team. The film co-stars »

Even though I’m busy traveling up and down the east coast doing interviews and a set visit for Collider, I’m forcing myself to finally post the last of the exclusive interviews I did at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. And after the one you’re about to watch with Sam Rockwell and writer/director James C. Strouse for “The Winning Season”, I’ll only have two left! Anyway, let’s get to why you’re here… In case you haven’t heard of “The Winning Season” yet, it stars Sam Rockwell as an adult misfit who is brought on to coach the local girl’s high school basketball team. The film co-stars Emma Roberts (“Nancy Drew”) as Abby, and it also stars Rob Corddry, Shareeka Epps, and Emily Rios. While I never got to see the movie at the Festival, friends who did said very positive things. »

Yes this interview with Emma Roberts and Shareeka Epps is late. While I would have loved to have posted all my Sundance interviews the week I was there, I conducted over 7 hours of interviews while at this year’s Festival and it’s been a lot harder to get them all online than I expected. But the final tape has been loaded into the computer and within the next few days I really will be done. So now that you know the reason for the delay, let’s get to why you’re here. Posted below is my exclusive video interview with two of the stars of writer/director James C. Strouse’s (“Grace is Gone”) next movie “The Winning Season”. In case you didn’t know, the movie was only finished last November and it was the final film Sundance accepted into the festival. Even more unusual, it was »

Last night, Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Rotten moderated a special Q & A panel following a screening of the new Last House On The Left remake with producer Wes Craven, actors Garret Dillahunt, Monica Potter & Sara Paxton. Prior to the on stage chat, Shock got the update on all of Wes Craven's projects currently in development.
As far as Scream 4 goes - Craven confirmed that Dimension Films is talking about it and that original scribe/ Scream creator Kevin Williamson has an idea that he's currently hashing out. Craven won't commit until he sees the finished script, which will have to be really, really strong to convince him to direct a 4th film.
Universal currently is prepping remakes of both The People Under The Stairs and Shocker. No word on which will come first (although I believe Craven previously expressed interest in revisiting People next), but both are actively being developed by the studio. »

Question: Is it true that the character of Anna Wu on Chuck is bisexual? ... I'm a sucker for bi women in sci-fi shows, so I'm wondering if this one should be on my radar.
— Sarah
Answer: Yes, Buy More employee Anna — played by Julia Ling — is bisexual, although it's understandable if you missed it: Anna's bisexuality has only been referenced once so far, in the first season when Anna quipped "speak for yourself!" to a comment from Morgan about none of them having sex with a beautiful woman. It's also referenced again in next week's episode.

McN Views has posted an exclusive early look at James C. Strouse's "The Winning Season". It displays the scene where Sam Rockwell's Bill is trying to tell his team of what they should do on the game, but gets an attitude check from his all-girl team when he refers Cindy as a big girl.
"The Winning Season" is an indie comedy which takes its focus on a divorced, down-on-his-luck coach named Bill as he is given a shot at redemption. The movie follows him as he attempts to make amends by coaching his local high school's girls basketball team. Led by Sam Rockwell, the cast ensemble also consists of Emma Roberts, Rob Corddry, Shareeka Epps and Emily Rios.
This movie has been included in 2009 Sundance Film Festival line-up but no worldwide screen date has been suggested. Festival director Geoffrey Gilmore calls the film "a completely gratifying cinematic drama »

Universal and Rogue Pictures have done a great job of supplying us a bunch of new images from 13 of their 17 upcoming films in 2009. Of course we have images from all 17 films, but only 20 of them are brand spanking new. Of the films listed below I am most anticipating Michael Mann's Public Enemies and the Paul Greengrass thriller Green Zone. However, there are other films to make sure you keep on your radar including the Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck political thriller State of Play, Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell with Alison Lohman, the horror remake The Wolfman with Tony Hopkins and Benicio del Toro as the Wolfman and I am also curiously interested in Cirque Du Freak, a strange vampire fantasy feature directed by Paul Weitz (In Good Company and About a Boy) adapted from the 12-book children's series by Darren Shan.
