Sherlock Holmes Sequel Confirmed, Pitt is In?

25 September 2009 9:42 AM, PDT | newsinfilm.com | See recent newsinfilm news »

Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritchie, isn’t out until three months from today and already Warner Bros is working on another.  The studio has confirmed a sequel to the Christmas release is in development, and Kieran and Michele Mulroney are in discussions to write the second installment in the possible franchise.

Robert Downey Jr. stars as Sherlock Holmes, Jude Law is playing Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams is the saucy female complication in the original.

The Mulroneys wrote the shelved Justice League: Mortal for the studio that then collapsed just before photography was underway.  They also wrote and directed Paper Man, a coming of age story about a man and an imaginary superhero.

There have been rumors Brad Pitt flew to London to film a short sequence as Moriarty, Holmes’ frequent nemesis.  The character, who only has two lines near the very end of the first, would expand from »

'Justice Leage: Mortal' Scribes Moving On To 'Sherlock Holmes' Sequel?

23 September 2009 7:52 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Even though most fans have quietly given up on George Miller's would-be Justice League film over the past year or so, Hollywood certainly hasn't forgotten about Warner Bros.' flagship superhero property—especially now that DC Entertainment has been formed to specifically serve those interests.

Case in point: A recent Risky Biz Blog post regarding the yet-to-be released "Sherlock Holmes" movie mentions a writing team Splash Page readers may remember.

According to the blog, Warner Bros. plans to have, "Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the scribes who are penning its 'Justice League: Mortal' tentpole" write a "Sherlock" sequel.

Before DC fans get their hopes up, it should be noted that the brief mention is probably more a sign of the pair's perceived talents than an indication that "Justice League: Mortal" is still in the works. Given Warner Bros. seemingly high-profile plans for the Sherlock Holmes franchise, it doesn't »

Sherlock Holmes Sequel in Development With Brad Pitt?

22 September 2009 4:38 PM, PDT | Filmofilia | See recent Filmofilia news »

Guy Ritchie’s upcoming adaptation of Sherlock Holmes film already has sequel plans. According to Variety and THR, Warner Bros is already moving forward with the sequel by hiring Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Justice League: Mortal) to write the script, with Brad Pitt in negotiations to come aboard. This will be the first time they have worked together since “Snatch.

The whole cast, including Rachel McAdams as Holmes’ love interest Irene Adler, is expected to return as well as Ritchie to helm.

Last month, it was rumored that Brad Pitt had filmed some scenes as Holmes’ nemesis Moriarty during a set of secret reshoots, but Warner Bros denied these claims. The character does make a breif cameo appearance in the first film, setting up a potential sequel, but those who know claim the character remains in the shadows and cannot be recognized.

Writers hired for ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ while Brad Pitt circles Moriarty

22 September 2009 9:06 AM, PDT | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Sherlock Holmes debuts in theaters on Christmas Day but that hasn’t stopped producers from looking ahead to the future.

Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Paper Man) will begin work on a script for a follow-up to the yet-to-be-released detective story. Though Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams  and director Guy Ritchie have not yet signed on for a sequel, their return is expected.

Warner Bros. will most likely sign the cast and crew shortly after the film’s release.

Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s legendary characters, the script from Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, Lionel Wigram and Simon Kinberg create a heavy emphasis on action and not on a storyline from any of the British author’s stories.

No word if the next film in this budding franchise will revolve around a mystery from the book series.

Brad Pitt is the Villain in Sherlock Holmes Sequel

22 September 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

We recently reported that Brad Pitt filmed a few scenes for "Sherlock Holmes" as the title character's evil nemesis Professor James Moriarty. The idea was to include the villain in the first film, while setting up the sequel. Warner Bros quickly denied the story, stating that Pitt has not joined the cast. Later on we found out directly from director Guy Ritchie that Moriarty is in the film and that the actor playing him will not be credited. It now turns out that both Warner Bros and Ritchie were telling the truth. Pitt is in the film, but since the character is mostly in the shadows and cannot be recognized, he will not be credited and is not considered part of the cast. According to Variety, Warner Bros is already moving forward with the sequel by hiring Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Justice League: Mortal) to write the script. Robert Downey Jr, »

Brad Pitt Could Be Moriarty After All In The Developing 'Sherlock Holmes' Sequel

22 September 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Brad Pitt has been the subject of a whirlwind of internet rumors that would mystify Sherlock Holmes himself. The "Inglourious Basterds" star was pegged for a cameo as the nefarious Moriarty, the titular master detective's arch-nemesis, in the Guy Ritchie-directed "Sherlock Holmes," but denials from Warner Bros. and other official parties effectively squashed that rumor.

Do you think the real Moriarty would reveal his identity so easily? No, he'd confuse his pursuers with misdirection and false leads. But just like legends, a good rumor never dies.

The Hollywood Reporter is getting in on the rumor mill by suggesting that Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Moriarty in a potential "Sherlock Holmes" sequel. The report acknowledges the previous Pitt rumors, but states that "those familiar with the script say the character [of Moriarty] is in shadow and cannot be recognized," verifying director Ritchie's statement that the Holmes villain »

‘Sherlock Holmes’ Sequel Already In the Works

22 September 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

With the first Sherlock Holmes movie featuring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law not even out in theaters until this Christmas, it looks as if Warner Bros. is already hard at work developing a sequel. This second installment is reportedly bringing writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney, currently working on the studio’s Justice League: Mortal, on board to pen a draft of the new script. In addition to that news, it seems the studio has its eye on a very well known actor to portray Holmes’ arch nemesis Moriarty in the film: Brad Pitt.

In case you’re not familiar with this updated take on Holmes, its more of an action-heavy rendition of the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle creation and features Downey, Jr. as the title character, Jude Law as Watson and Rachel McAdams as love interest Irene Adler. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie who may return for »

Sherlock Holmes Gets His Sequel

The Guy Ritchie-directed Sherlock Holmes hasn’t hit theatres yet, but already it seems that the studio feel confident enough to commission the sequel – so they have.

Three months ahead of release Warner Bros. are working on the as yet untitled sequel, according to Risky Biz Blog. Presumably Robert Downey Jr. will be making a return as Holmes with Jude Law once again on board as his “elementary” friend Doctor Watson.

According to the site, Warners are set to bring Kieran and Michele Mulroney on board to pen the script but the real news comes from who may (or may not) be playing the arch villain.

During the first half of August, Brad Pitt’s name was brought up by The Daily Mirror as having been drafted in last minute to play Professor Moriarty. At the time Warner Bros. denied the rumours, which travelled quickly online.

Sherlock Holmes Sequel: Brad Pitt To Play Moriarty?

22 September 2009 8:23 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Guy Ritchie’s version of Sherlock Holmes is still over three months away from hitting theaters, but Warner Bros. is already planning a sequel (previously hinted at by star Robert Downey Jr.). Maybe not too much of a surprise there; putting things in motion for a sequel means it obviously moves along a lot quicker and costs comparatively less than it normally would.

However, the most interesting piece of news about the Sherlock Holmes sequel is that Brad Pitt’s name is once again looming over the role of Holmes’ legendary enemy, Moriarty. It was only last month that Pitt was rumored to appear as the villain in this first Holmes movie, after a source at the British tabloid newspaper The Mirror said that a “studio exec” ordered Ritchie to re-shoot the movie with Pitt appearing as the villain, even after stars Robert Downey Jr. and Co. had finished principal photography. »

Brad Pitt Might Be Villainous Moriarty in 'Sherlock' Sequel

22 September 2009 8:03 AM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Earlier this summer, reshoot rumors were thick around Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes. One of the more believable ones was that Brad Pitt was stepping in to make an appearance as Moriarty, though it was clouded in so much "Pitt must save Ritchie!" hyperbole that it was almost impossible to believe. As always, there seems to have been some truth to the tabloid rumors, because The Hollywood Reporter says Warner Bros is already prepping more Holmes, and Pitt is in talks to play the detective's legendary adversary, Moriarty.

While neither Ritchie, Pitt, or producer Joel Silver will comment on whether Pitt already makes a shadowy appearance in the upcoming film. Those who have read the script say that Moriarty does appear, but is all mysterious and silhouetted, and it's impossible to see who he really is.

Fire Up the Brad Pitt Rumors: Sherlock Holmes 2 On the Way

22 September 2009 6:30 AM, PDT | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

· Warner Bros. might have finally given up trying to hide Brad Pitt as Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes -- or it finally succumbed to the bright idea of harnessing his appeal as the franchise moves forward. Either way, the actor is linked to discussions for Sherlock Holmes 2, which Joel Silver is now developing and to which Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Guy Ritchie are all likely to return. Movieline faves Kieran and Michele Mulroney are hammering out the screenplay, in which Pitt would emerge from the first film's shadows to more conspicuously torment his nemesis Holmes. Sorry, England -- America promises its leading men will do their best with your cultural icons. Michael Sheen was probably booked or something anyway. [THR]

Brad Pitt to Play Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes Sequel?

22 September 2009 6:29 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes may still be a couple of months away from release, but that hasn't stopped Warner Brothers from starting development on a sequel. Clearly they have high hopes for the franchise potential here, and they've already hired a couple of screenwriters to start working on the script. According to the Risky Biz Blog [1], those writers are Kieran and Michele Mulroney, who previously worked with Warner Brothers on the ill-fated Justice League movie. They also recently wrote and directed a movie called Paper Man [2]. What's even more interesting, however, is the fact that the villain of this sequel will likely be classic Holmes arch-enemy Moriarty, and that Brad Pitt is rumoured to be in talks for the role. I had been wondering why Holmes' adversary in the first movie is Lord Blackwood (played by Mark Strong), but apparently Moriarty does make a brief appearance, hidden in shadows. »

Sherlock Holmes 2 in Early Development

22 September 2009 5:38 AM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

We’re still three months away from the release of Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes this Christmas, but you better believe they’re already cooking up the next entry in the series. Warner Bros. is in talks with Kieran and Michele Mulroney, a husband and wife screenwriting team, to begin work on a sequel.

It’s strange that no mention is made of the writers of Sherlock Holmes: Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham, and Simon Kinberg. However, the Mulroney’s are no more proven than any of these writers, only having worked on Justice League and the forthcoming Paper Man starring Ryan Reynolds.

It’s likely, though, that we’ll see more writers tacked on to Sherlock Holmes 2 as time goes on — the most recent film that comes to mind having a screenwriting credit so lengthy (3 credit writers and 2 screen story credits) was Pirates of the Caribbean.

Time will tell whether Robert Downey Jr., »

Brad Pitt May Play Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes Sequel

22 September 2009 4:52 AM, PDT | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

While Sherlock Holmes won't appear in theaters for another three months, Warner Bros. is counting on it to be a hit — so much so that the studio is already moving ahead with plans for a sequel. Word coming from The Hollywood Reporter says they've already hired writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney, and get this: "Brad Pitt has had discussions with producers to star as Holmes' nemesis Moriarty."

We figure this must be more than a rumor because, truth be told, this isn't the first report that Pitt has been connected to the movie. There is some evidence that Brad may actually have a small cameo in this first film to set up the next. It wouldn't surprise us, as that's the way they are doing it in Hollywood these days.

In any case, we hope this one is true because we are intrigued by the thought of a battle of »

Sherlock Holmes Sequel Greenlit and Brad Pitt Likely

22 September 2009 12:45 AM, PDT | www.canmag.com | See recent CanMag news »

Hearing that Warner Bros. has already greenlit a sequel for Sherlock Holmes gives me deja vu back to Pirates of the Caribbean. The film, which started with that simple title, did so well with the Disney execs that they greenlit more movies and gave the first installment a longer title to differentiate it. The WB must be happy with Sherlock Holmes, as not only have they put the pieces in position, but are also in talks with a big name as their next villain.

Brad Pitt Optioned for Sherlock Holmes Nemesis

Warner Bros. has already hired scribes Kieran and Michele Mulroney, who are currently working on Justice League: Mortal, to pen the script for the next Sherlock Holmes installment. Brad Pitt has been approached to star as Moriarty, Holmes' new nemesis. It has even been rumored that Pitt's mug just might surface in the upcoming installment, due to hit theaters this December. »
