Opens: 2010
Cast: Naomi Watts, Annette Bening, Samuel L. Jackson, Kerry Washington
Director: Rodrigo Garcia
Summary: A tale of a mother and daughter, separated at birth, who struggle with the damage done by the most important person missing in their lives while a young African-Americn woman deals with an unwanted pregnancy and the adoption process.
Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.
The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not »

B-d reader Joey M. pointed us over to New York stuntman Manny Siverio's MySpace page where he posted a spoilerific image from behind-the-scenes of Wes Craven's My Soul To Take (formerly 25/8) that features your first look at the killer. Those following Craven on Twitter were treated to updates leading up to the completion of the film, which Rogue will hopefully release in 2010. As legend has it, a notorious serial slayer will return to the sleepy community of Riverdale to finish off the seven children born on the night he purportedly died. But is the slayer really dead, or is he still at large? Or has the mysterious evil personality that once impelled his bloody spree entered the body of an unwary teen, who will now be compelled to do his evil bidding? Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps, Emily Meade star. »

After finishing Nick McDonell.s novel Twelve, it was clear that the story would make for a perfect film adaption. The characters are bleak yet colorful and the book itself unexpectedly compelling. After hearing Chase Crawford was chosen to play the protagonist, White Mike, a drug dealer who never partakes in his own supply, I was skeptical that director Joel Schumacher would abandon the source material in favor of a star-studded cast. These five new photos (via Slash Film) from Twelve have not only given me newfound hope for Crawford, but the entire production as well. The first image, I believe, is Emily Meade as Jessica, a party girl who becomes addicted to the drug Twelve. The second photo features Billy Magnussen as Claude, a 17-year-old fascinated with obscure weaponry, and his male model pal Tobias (Nico Tortorella). The third photo is our main man, White Mike, and his stash. »

Writer/director Wes Craven announced today on his Twitter page that 25/8 has officially been retitled to My Soul To Take. Now when anybody Google searches about Craven's new movie, they'll get information on the Devil. Kinda funny? In the sleepy town of Riverton, legend tells of a serial killer who swore he would return to murder the seven children born the night he died. Now, 16 years later, people are disappearing again. Has the psycopath been reincarnated as one of the seven, or did he survive the night he was left for dead? Max Theirot, Denzel Whitaker, Shareeka Epps and Emily Meade all star. »

Assassination of a High School President is yet another Hollywood tragedy that had all the promise in the world, but, through bad turns of offscreen circumstance, never got the shot in theaters it deserved.
The film was a hit at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and people were calling it the next Brick - pretty much because both films are homages to the Film Noir era, set against the backdrop of modern high school. After the Yari Group, the owners of the film, went bankrupt, the film’s fate was left to question. Assassination of a High School President has finally been released direct-to-dvd this week and we’ve got the review for you.
The plot of Assassination of a High School President follows Bobby Funke (Reece Thompson), a hard-nosed reporter (and geeky sophomore) working for the school paper, who can never quite finish his epic conspiracy stories. While covering a piece profiling St. »

Last night, Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Rotten moderated a special Q & A panel following a screening of the new Last House On The Left remake with producer Wes Craven, actors Garret Dillahunt, Monica Potter & Sara Paxton. Prior to the on stage chat, Shock got the update on all of Wes Craven's projects currently in development.
As far as Scream 4 goes - Craven confirmed that Dimension Films is talking about it and that original scribe/ Scream creator Kevin Williamson has an idea that he's currently hashing out. Craven won't commit until he sees the finished script, which will have to be really, really strong to convince him to direct a 4th film.
Universal currently is prepping remakes of both The People Under The Stairs and Shocker. No word on which will come first (although I believe Craven previously expressed interest in revisiting People next), but both are actively being developed by the studio. »

Universal and Rogue Pictures have done a great job of supplying us a bunch of new images from 13 of their 17 upcoming films in 2009. Of course we have images from all 17 films, but only 20 of them are brand spanking new. Of the films listed below I am most anticipating Michael Mann's Public Enemies and the Paul Greengrass thriller Green Zone. However, there are other films to make sure you keep on your radar including the Russell Crowe and Ben Affleck political thriller State of Play, Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell with Alison Lohman, the horror remake The Wolfman with Tony Hopkins and Benicio del Toro as the Wolfman and I am also curiously interested in Cirque Du Freak, a strange vampire fantasy feature directed by Paul Weitz (In Good Company and About a Boy) adapted from the 12-book children's series by Darren Shan. All the cast, director and »
