‘Darkest Hour’: Gary Oldman Credits Makeup Artist for Winston Churchill Transformation

‘Darkest Hour’: Gary Oldman Credits Makeup Artist for Winston Churchill Transformation
Gary Oldman was particularly thankful to his makeup artist Kazuhiro Tsuji at the Los Angeles premiere of “Darkest Hour” on Wednesday at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills.

Oldman admitted on the red carpet that looking like Winston Churchill was essential for the role to work, since Churchill has such worldwide renown. So he was willing to spend several hundred hours in makeup during shooting, rather than using prosthetics.

“I wasn’t going to put on 50 or 60 pounds and put my health at risk so it was contingent on getting Kazuhiro to see if this thing was going to work,” he recalled. “You could control the other component — the energy, how he used his hands, the way he moved. But if you look ridiculous, it’s not going to work. So you surrender to it.”

Churchill was 65 at the time of the events in the film in 1940, during the opening weeks of his

Stranger Things' Joe Keery Has a Gorgeous Girlfriend, and Our Hearts Just Flipped Upside Down
From the second we met Joe Keery as Steve Harrington on Stranger Things last year, we were obsessed. He may have started off as a serious a-hole swayed by his jock ways, but we saw beyond that, specifically to his dreamy head of hair and knew that he'd redeem himself one day. We're not going to spill all the juicy details about season two (you can get those spoilers here), but what we can tell you is that Steve completely turns around in the latest season and develops into the heartthrob we always knew he could be. But we can't get ahead of ourselves, because it turns out Joe has a girlfriend in real life, and she's a gorgeous actress named Maika Monroe. The couple made their red carpet debut at the Netflix show's premiere last week, and we were admittedly overwhelmed by the amount of luscious hair going on between one couple.

Jennifer Garner's 'Ugly Mother' Transformation for 'The Tribes of Palos Verdes' -- See the Poster (Exclusive)
The moms that Jennifer Garner plays onscreen -- in movies like Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day and Miracles From Heaven -- usually feel cut from the same cloth. They’re doting, loving mothers with a smile on their face and a twinkle in their eye -- the type of mom you imagine Garner is in real life, too. In The Tribes of Palos Verdes, however, she plays Sandy Mason, a mother of two teenagers whose life spirals out of control after her husband leaves her for another woman. And in this poster for the film, debuting on Et, Sandy hovers over her carefree daughter (played by It Follows actress Maika Monroe).

Et spoke with filmmakers and brothers Brendan and Emmett Malloy about what made them to adapt Joy Nicholson’s novel of the same name for the screen, why working on the movie felt like a therapy session, and which scene

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’: Looking Back on the Slasher Classic 20 Years Later
With Halloween quickly approaching, horror fans everywhere are in search of the next great scary movie. While 2017 has been a phenomenal year for the genre -- with standouts like Split, Annabelle: Creation, It and Get Out -- audiences need only to look back on the late ’90s slasher era for some of horror’s best thrills.

The genre was more popular than ever thanks to the colossal success of Scream in 1996, with almost every major film studio attempting to recreate that same magic. Soon, everything from Urban Legends to a new installment of Halloween with Jamie Lee Curtis followed. Between 1996 and 2000, the horror genre was at an all-time high. So high, it almost became hard to keep track of them all.

But one slasher film in particular stands out among the rest: I Know What You Did Last Summer, which came out 20 years ago on Oct. 17, 1997.

It’s not all that surprising, given the screenplay
