The Notable Films of 2010: Part Four

Georgia

Opens: 2010

Cast: Val Kilmer, Andy Garcia, Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Johnathon Schaech

Director: Renny Harlin

Summary: An American journalist, his cameraman, and a Georgian native get caught in the crossfire of the five-day Russia-Georgia conflict in August 2008, and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial.

Analysis: A timely parable on war, or Hollywood propaganda filmmaking at its worst? Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

Shot on-location in Tbilisi, the project also marks a potential return to form for Finnish director Renny Harlin. Given the right material the skilled action director delivered three »

Roadside Has the Hots for Julio DePietro's 'The Good Guy'

16 October 2009 | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

- If they can make it here, they can make it anywhere. The modest in size Roadside Attractions can certainly relate to the big ambitions and dreams of the narrative in their second title pick-up for their eventual 2010 slate, setting the Tribeca played Julio DePietro romantic dramedy for a March release, right after the January release of the Berlin Film Festival pick-up Happy Tears. Perhaps a good companion piece to the eventual release of Stone's Wall Street 2The Good Guy sees actor Scott Porter play Tommy, a rising Wall Street star in a budding romance with a new girlfriend, Beth (Alexis Bledel). He begins mentoring a seemingly hapless new salesman (Bryan Greenberg) who befriends Beth, starting a chain of events that might ultimately lead to his downfall.      »

Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene Caught Attending Jason Mraz's Concert Together

2 October 2009 8:38 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

"Twilight" stars Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene have proven that they are the fans of pop singer Jason Mraz. On Wednesday, September 30, the twosome was reportedly snapped attending a concert of the "I'm Yours" hitmaker at the Gm Place Arena in Vancouver, Canada.

"They were watching the show from the soundboard area," an eyewitness told E! Online of Lutz and Greene. "Toward the end of the show, Jason and a couple of guys in his band went out on a small stage and did a few songs right there at the soundboard so the [people in the] back of the arena were able to see him up close."

After watching the show, both of them were allegedly seen going to backstage. Also joining them was Scott Porter, who has been starring as Jason Street on NBC's drama show "Friday Night Lights".

Five Projects for Dce to Jump On, Day 1: ‘The Flash’

14 September 2009 5:30 AM, PDT | WeAreMovieGeeks.com | See recent WeAreMovieGeeks.com news »

On the surface, The Flash may seem too simple of a project to make into a decent movie, but it’s that simplicity of the character that has always intrigued me. As a superhero, The Flash is not complicated. Regardless of which of the four incarnations you reference, The Flash embodies superhuman speed, agility, quick-thinking and intelligence and even the ability to defy certain law of physics, such as being able to vibrate so fast he can walk through walls or leap to alternate dimensions.

For the sake of argument, and popularity, we’ll focus on the most popular incarnation of The Flash. The story of Barry Allen began back in 1956, when DC Comics made the successful decision to modernize it’s most popular characters. In this re-imagining of The Flash, scientist Barry Allen is exposed to some powerful chemical agents when lightning strikes his lab, resulting in an exponentially-enhanced metabolism and physical ability. »

'Bandslam' gets a good review, opens today with 'New Moon' trailer

14 August 2009 7:48 AM, PDT | Twilight Examiner | See recent Twilight Examiner news »

As if you could forget, the second trailer for The Twilight Saga: New Moon is coming to a theater near you today by way of Twilight studio Summit Entertainment's newest picture Bandslam (with Vanessa Hudgens, Alyson Michalka, Gaelen Connell, Scott Porter, and Lisa Kudrow). The film's initial reception has been great, being referred to as "a spry teen melodrama whose refusal to pander to its audience is refreshing." Directing Bandslam is Todd Graff, who also directed Anna Kendrick in Camp. His work in Bandslam is described by Cinematical as follows: As before, Graff endeavors to make something smarter than the usual adolescent-targeted claptrap, notably in his emphasis on vintage rock (Bowie, Velvet Underground, etc.) rather than the modern pop tunes that would customarily appear on the soundtrack. Interview: Lisa Kudrow of ‘Friends’ Fame on Mothering in New Film ‘Bandslam’

13 August 2009 8:42 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – Following Lisa Kudrow’s wildly successful, 10-year run as Phoebe Buffay on 238 episodes of “Friends,” the 46-year-old Encino, Calif. native is hardly the spacey blonde from 1997’s “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion”. In fact, she earned her degree in psychobiology from Vassar College in New York.

But since her Emmy-winning “Friends” fame and in speaking with her today, you now get the sense that she’s splitting her time between TV work (i.e. with 27 episodes of “Web Therapy” over the past year), various films and perhaps most important mothering.

"Bandslam" Movie Review! See Why I Really Love This Film!

11 August 2009 6:08 PM, PDT | Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news »

Movies about teenagers and music normally feature two motivations. The characters are either singing and dancing for love or fame. What sets the new movie .Bandslam. apart from other teen films is its pure, unmitigated love for music.

Indeed, music becomes a central character in this new film from Summit Entertainment, the house that .Twilight. built. But the genius behind .Bandslam. is director and co-writer Todd Graff (.Camp.). Having worked in Broadway and performed as a back-up singer for such artists as James Taylor and Carly Simon, Graff really knows what he.s talking about.

Newcomer Gaelan Connell stars as Will Burton, an awkward teenage boy who knows a great deal about music. He is bullied incessantly in school, so his mom Karen (the perennial scene-stealer Lisa Kudrow) decides to move Will to a new city and a new high school -- Martin Van Buren High School in Lodi, »
