Mark Hamill says the Star Wars prequels are more original than The Force Awakens

To promote his return as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill has been chatting to Metro about the Star Wars saga, during which he has defended the much-maligned Prequel Trilogy, stating that Lucas’ movies were more original than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“What I thought was great about the prequels was the different technology that I had never seen before. All that CGI. And the fact that [George Lucas] wasn’t trying to do the same experience all over again. I thought The Force Awakens did that more than the early ones, because it had that the girl from a different planet, the Death Star, the Cantina sequence. [J.J. Abrams] was trying to figure out what was it about the original movies that everybody loved. And that’s a different thought process than what George would have done. Because he would go, ‘I had a beginning, middle, and

Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuts to second-biggest ever opening day at the box office

After starting its North American theatrical run with the second biggest ever Thursday preview takings, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has carried that into its first full day at the box office, with the movie grossing $100.4 million on Friday, second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $119 million.

Having been tracking a $200 million domestic opening weekend, analysts are now suggesting a $208 million to $214 million debut for The Last Jedi, which would put it ahead of The Avengers ($207.4 million) and potentially Jurassic World ($208.8 million) for the second best opening weekend after The Force Awakens ($247.9 million).

International numbers are still to come in for Friday, but The Last Jedi had grossed $60.8 million from 48 markets by close of play on Thursday. Worldwide opening estimates for the film put its weekend at around $425 million.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Are Kylo Ren and Rey Related?

Potentially incestuous spoilers from Star Wars: The Last Jedi below! Arguably one of the biggest questions to come out of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was: who are Rey's real parents? Now that we've seen The Last Jedi, we have a small addendum to the query: who are Rey's real parents . . . because we Really need to know how to feel about the sexual tension between her and Kylo Ren! Ok, in all seriousness, the bond between the faces of the opposing sides of the galactic war - Republic Jedi-in-training Rey (Daisy Ridley) and the First Order's resident tantrum thrower, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) - is on display more than ever in the second installment of the recent trilogy. Although we don't get too many answers about the nature of what exactly is happening between them, we do see that there's definitely something there. The funny thing is, the pair actually

Does Star Wars: The Last Jedi Hint At A Rey/Poe Romance For Episode IX?

No, it doesn’t. Next question.

Oh right, these articles are usually a bit longer than that. Right, well certain sites are currently speculating that the closing scenes of Star Wars: The Last Jedi hint at a future romance (Poemance?) between Daisy Ridley’s Jedi ingenue Rey and Oscar Isaac’s dashing pilot Poe Dameron. Now, the closing scenes do indeed see the two characters cross paths and they certainly look pleased to finally meet one another, but sparks of romance? Nah.

I mean, it’s not like it’s impossible that it’s going to happen, but it seems a bit unlikely. I suspect that, now that Finn has an unambiguous romantic interest, shippers are throwing whatever they can at the wall to see what sticks. Honestly though, if Rey is going to bump uglies with anyone in these films it’s far more likely to be Adam Driver

Last Jedi Concept Art Shows Off Multicolored Porgs

Last Jedi Concept Art Shows Off Multicolored Porgs
Now that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is finally in theaters, fans will be scouring for more details on several aspects of the film, and today we have an early glimpse at how colorful the new creatures known as the Porgs could have been. While the production ultimately went with a brown and white color palate for the porgs that slightly resembles that of Chewbacca, new photos and excerpts from The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi book, which was released today, shows how colorful the Porgs almost were. Here's what The Art of Star Wars: The Last Jedi author Phil Szostak had to say in commentary about these images.

"After Rian Johnson settled on the look of the adorable space penguins, artist Jake Lunt Davies offered versions in virtually every color of the rainbow. The colorfully tinted porgs gave way to the plainer white-and-brown fowl seen in the film,

Yes, It's Ok to Ship That Couple in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

  • BuzzSugar
Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi follow. The romances of the Star Wars franchise have long been fraught: Luke and Leia kiss, only to find out they're brother and sister; Leia and Han fall for each other, but we barely get to see them as a couple; the one couple who we do really see fall in love on screen - Padmé and Anakin - is a wretched bore to watch (and ill-fated, of course). So let's just say that we didn't have high hopes for this series to deliver a romantic relationship that's worth watching. Until now. In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we find love in a hopeless place. No, not because Finn's crush on Rey becomes something more or because Rose plants a heat-free kiss on Finn's lips. In fact, the couple I found myself inexplicably rooting for is one that I'm pretty sure I

‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Speeds Toward $200 Million-Plus Weekend in the U.S.
The box office Force is with Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” which is heading for more than $200 million at 4,232 North American sites in its opening weekend, early estimates showed Friday.

The tentpole opened with $45 million on Thursday night — the second-largest Thursday night preview gross ever in North America, trailing only the $57 million for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” two years ago. The total for Friday (which includes Thursday night) should wind up in the $95 million to $98 million range, followed by as much as $60 million on Saturday and somewhere around $45 million to $48 million on Sunday.

That would mean “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” will become only the fourth movie to top $200 million domestically in its opening frame, joining 2015’s “The Force Awakens” at $248.8 million, 2015’s “Jurassic World” with $208.8 million, and 2012’s “The Avengers” with $207.4 million. It will finish the weekend far above the “Star Wars” spinoff “Rogue One,” which opened

The Cast Of Star Wars: The Last Jedi Get Classy For Gorgeous Vogue Photoshoot

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has a surprisingly good eye for fashion and couture. In the casino sequence on Canto Bight, for instance, Finn and Rose encounter the 1%’ers of the Star Wars universe, all dressed in the galaxy’s finest and most expensive clothing. It looks as though whoever designed the costumes for this sequence had some fun in imagining the most extreme outfits they could.

Now, back on Earth, the key players of The Last Jedi have gotten their own opportunity to class the place up, with the British Vogue magazine squeezing the cast (plus director Rian Johnson and producer Ram Bergman) into some fine looking suits and gowns. Included here are John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Laura Dern, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleason, Benicio Del Toro and more. Notable by her absence though is Daisy Ridley, who was presumably otherwise engaged

The latest chapter of the Star Wars saga kicked off its box office run this past Thursday, with Star Wars: The Last Jedi recording the second biggest Thursday preview takings in history in North America with over $45 million. Sebastian Stan wants to play “middle-aged Luke Skywalker” in a Star Wars spinoff

It’s a commonly known fact that actor Sebastian Stan bears a scary resemblance to a young Mark Hamill. So much so, that Mark Hamill has given the actor his blessing to play a young Luke, and the two frequently poke fun at the resemblance on social media.

Now, a Luke Skywalker spinoff could work for a number of reasons, and it seems that Sebastian Stan has tuned into that. Chatting with Esquire, the Marvel actor reveals the version of Luke Skywalker that he feels the most right for:

“I feel like I have some sort of his blessing. I didn’t even realize it actually, I used to love Luke Skywalker when I was younger. Then a friend said to me, they’ve already done young Luke Skywalker, so you would be middle-aged Luke Skywalker… That’s where I’d come in.”

How would you feel about Sebastian Stan playing a middle-aged Luke Skywalker?
