The story follows main characters 'Dr. John Montague', an investigator of the supernatural, 'Eleanor Vance', a shy young woman who resents having lived as a recluse caring for her demanding invalid mother, 'Theodora', a flamboyant, bohemian artist and 'Luke Sanderson', the young heir to 'Hill House'.

"Dr. Montague hopes to find scientific evidence of the existence of the supernatural. He rents Hill House for a summer and invites as his guests several people, chosen because of their past experience with paranormal events.

‘The Conjuring’ Series, Spinoffs Top $1 Billion at Worldwide Box Office

18 August 2017 4:32 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

New Line’s four-film “Conjuring” series has scared up more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office, thanks to “Annabelle: Creation” taking in more than $110 million.

The low-cost franchise launched in 2013 with “The Conjuring,” starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal investigators, and was spun off with 2014’s demonic doll “Annabelle,” followed by the 2016 sequel “The Conjuring 2” and this summer’s sequel “Annabelle: Creation.”

James Wan and Peter Safran have produced all four films and Wan directed both “Conjuring” movies. New Line will release another spinoff, “The Nun,” in July. The studio is also in active development with Wan’s Atomic Monster and the Safran Company on “The Conjuring 3” and another spinoff, “The Crooked Man,” based on a character that appeared in “The Conjuring 2.”

Win A Signed Poster From Annabelle: Creation

Annabelle: Creation is one of 2017’s scariest films!

Variety reports: “Annabelle: Creation,” which conjured $35 million in its opening to dominate an otherwise lackluster frame last weekend, will wind up the weekend with about $64 million in its first 10 days. The film is the fourth in New Line’s highly profitable “Conjuring” universe and should see the combined worldwide grosses hit the $1 billion mark this weekend, thanks to 2013’s “The Conjuring,” 2014’s “Annabelle,” 2016’s “The Conjuring 2,” and “Annabelle: Creation.” Next up is “The Nun,” starring Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir and due out July 13.

In his review, Michael Haffner says “it proudly stands next to The Conjuring films as delivering real scares. What helps with this is making the audience afraid of not just the doll, but of what other being is haunting the house as well as the always hidden mother. It’s a terrifying trifecta that fits perfectly into the ominous surroundings. »

Annabelle: Creation review

13 August 2017 10:00 PM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

A bit of a surprise this, as the new Annabelle movie punches above its weight a little. Here's our review...

There's likely to be some justifiable trepidation about the quality of Annabelle: Creation, the fourth film in what the marketing now bills as 'the Conjuring universe', given the poor reception for the first Annabelle spin-off and the generally low hit-rate of studio horror movies among even moderately well-read genre fans.

But it's not even 12 months since director Mike Flanagan turned Ouija: Origin Of Evil into one of the most surprising films of last year. His prequel to the profitable but poor Hasbro horror was an engaging and creative chiller, and Creation has drawn favourable comparisons for the way in which it also brings in a new director - David F Sandberg, fresh off last year's Lights Out - to reinvigorate the latest studio-mandated spin-off. It hardly reaches the heights that Flanagan did, »

Annabelle: Creation Wins Weekend Box Office, Earns Double Its Budget

13 August 2017 12:14 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

As expected, New Line's Conjuring spin-off dubbed Annabelle Creation took the top spot at the box office this weekend with $35 million. The low-budget spin-off has already doubled its $15 million budget, and it's potentially shaping up to be one of the most profitable movies this year. Other newcomers The Glass Castle and The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature both underperformed, leading to weak opening box office numbers.

Box Office Mojo reports that Annabelle: Creation debuted in 3,502 theaters, for an impressive $10,006 per-screen average, with The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature debuting in third place with $8.9 million, with a meager $2,232 per-screen average from 4,003 theaters, behind Dunkirk in second palace with $11.4 million. The Glass Castle opened in ninth place with $4.8 million, earning a $3,337 per-screen average from 1,461 theaters. Annabelle: Creation, a spin-off of The Conjuring, came just shy of its predecessor, 2014's Annabelle, which debuted with $37.1 million, with a grand total of $256.8 million ($84.2 million domestic, »

Best Annabelle 2 Scare Was Done with All Practical Effects

12 August 2017 1:01 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

After years of ugly looking CGI ruining some great movie moments, a lot of directors are going back to the old school method of having these ideas realized with real working special effects. Count director David F. Sandberg into that camp. With his most recent sequel in theaters this weekend, the filmmaker has admitted that one of its best scares was done 100% practical.

Bloody Disgusting recently caught up with director David F. Sandberg to discuss Annabelle: Creation. And the climactic end scene was a point of conversation that needed some analysis. If you haven't had a chance to see the movie just yet, you might want to save this cool reveal for a later date, as there will be Spoilers ahead.

Annabelle 2 is racking up some great reviews. And the ending helps push this one home as a great recent horror outing that definitely outshines the first Conjuring spin-off. At »

Box Office: ‘Annabelle: Creation’ Conjuring $36 Million Domestic Debut

12 August 2017 8:41 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Annabelle: Creation” isn’t just fleshing out New Line Cinema’s self-proclaimed “Conjuring Universe,” it’s also helping to save the back half of the summer box office. The prequel to 2014’s “Annabelle” is conjuring up a $36 million domestic debut.

According to estimates, Warner Bros.’ supernatural horror will easily win its opening weekend after taking in $15 million from 3,502 locations on Friday, including Thursday night previews. Talitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson, Stephanie Sigman, Miranda Otto, and Anthony Lapaglia star in the origin story behind the killer, antique doll from director David F. Sandberg.

Also in the double digits for WB, “Dunkirk” continues to steamroll its blockbuster competition in second place. Despite being in its fourth frame, Christopher Nolan’s World War II drama is expected to add just under $11 million to its total after making just over $3 million from 3,762 screens on Friday. That number is also expected to officially put »

‘Annabelle Creation’ Review: Dir. David F Sandberg (2017)

12 August 2017 1:28 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Annabelle Creation review: The Conjuring cinematic universe expands with this prequel to a prequel.

Annabelle Creation review by Kat Hughes.

Annabelle Creation review

The Conjuring, directed by James Wan, was a surprise smash, one that also managed to be genuinely terrifying. The movie introduced us to the demon hunting Warrens and their chamber of horrors, the most of horrific of those being a creepy doll known as Annabelle. Despite having hardly any screen time, she’s what most audience members remember most vividly. It was inevitable then that she would get her own film. Sadly, Annabelle was a disappointment, falling into all the horror cliches without much originality. Now though Wan has brought in David F Sandberg, who directed last year’s brilliant Light’s Out as the story travels even further back in time.

Annabelle: Creation: Talitha Bateman and Lulu Wilson Talk Of The Fun And Synergy On The Horror Set

12 August 2017 12:11 AM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

These two young actresses are definitely rising stars due to their acting range and maturity in the Hollywood business.

Talitha Bateman marks her major studio debut with Annabelle: Creation as a polio-stricken girl, who is haunted by a demon possessed in a doll. And Lulu Wilson plays her emotional and vulnerable best friend at the orphanage. Wilson was previously known for her terrific performance in another horror film Ouija: Origin of Evil.

The two girls star in Director David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation alongside Stephanie Sigman (Spectre), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings), Anthony Lapaglia (Without a Trace), and Alicia Vela-Bailey (Lights Out).

The film is a prequel to 2014’s highly successful Annabelle. It tells of the origin story on how the creepy doll was created and possessed. The doll ends up haunting a group of orphan girls.

Lrm participated in a roundtable interview with a few reporters and the two young actresses. »

Annabelle: Creation: Stephanie Sigman On Playing A Nun, Acting With Children And Blessing The Set From Real Evil

11 August 2017 9:12 PM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Demons can take many shapes and form. The creepy doll is no exception.

Annabelle: Creation heads into theaters nationwide today. It serves as the origin story on how the Annabelle is first created for The Conjuring universe.

The film stars Stephanie Sigman (Miss Bala), Miranda Otto (The Lord of the Rings), Lulu Wilson (Ouija: Origin of Evil), Anthony Lapaglia (Without A Trace), Talitha Bateman (The 5th Wave) and Alicia Vela-Bailey (Lights Out). It’s directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out).

We managed to catch actress Stephanie Sigman over the phone for the busy promotion for Annabelle: Creation. She told us about the lure of playing a nun character, which is quite different from playing a Bond girl on Spectre or a pageant model turned drug dealer in Miss Bala. She also discussed her personal beliefs in the supernatural and admitted that it was her who asked for the set to be blessed from evil. »

Will Smith Doesn't Think Movies Stars Can Be Made The Same Way Anymore

11 August 2017 7:00 AM, PDT | | See recent LRM Online news »

Will we ever see a movie star once again rise through the ranks in the way that actors such as Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep did? In today’s tech frenzied world, actors and fans can engage via several social media sites. Speaking recently at a press conference for his upcoming Netflix film, Bright, A-list star Will Smith talked about how he doesn’t think movie stars can be made today the same way they were in the past.

“Essentially the fans being more and more involved in the creative process, you know, in terms of movie stardom it's a huge difference. It's like you almost can't make new movie stars anymore”

Stars are still being made, but perhaps not in the traditional ways of the past. Social media can and has influenced Hollywood. While YouTube hasn't made any big movie stars yet (my guess is it is only a »

How ‘Annabelle: Creation’ Literally Brought David F. Sandberg’s Dreams to Life

Some of the best scenes in Annabelle: Creation involve a toy gun that shoots a ball attached to a string. Once shot, the ball can be reeled back in with a little wheel on the gun. Annabelle: Creation Review

10 August 2017 3:17 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

David F. Sandberg’s Annabelle: Creation proves that history does, in fact, repeat itself – and not by following in John R. Leonetti’s footsteps (director of Annabelle). Sandberg takes a page out of Ouija: Origin Of Evil‘s playbook, going the period route to recalibrate via prequel beginnings. Warner Brothers trusted their up-and-coming horror workhorse to salvage Annabelle’s name, much like how Mike Flannagan made Ouija relevant again. In every sense of the phrase, Annabelle Creation is 2017’s Ouija: The Original Of Evil. Noticeably improved upon, wicked in haunts and smart to cast little Lulu Wilson (child actor from Ouija: Origin Of Evil). It ain’t October yet, but who says you can’t squeeze a few screams in before summer dries up?

Annabelle’s origin takes us to the Mullins residence, circa 1950. Samuel Mullins (Anthony Lapaglia), a retired toymaker, offers his roomy estate to a Catholic orphanage with no other options. »
