Universal and Blumhouse Productions’ “Happy Death Day” earned $1 million at the Thursday box office, with showings starting at 7 p.m. in 2,450 theaters. The film’s preview return is in line with what Blumhouse’s 2015 project, “The Visit,” earned, which went on to gross $25 million its opening weekend. However, the horror comedy starring Jessica Rothe in the lead is expected to open in the $18 million to $20 million range, opening this weekend from 3,130 screens.
