'Red Christmas': Film Review

Offering something to offend viewers from many walks of life, Craig Anderson's Red Christmas uses Jesus' birthday as an occasion for an abortion-themed slasher pic whose boogeyman happens to have Down Syndrome. The literal-minded may also take offense at the pic, and not just because its Yuletide horrors are being delivered in the dog days of summer. But some horror buffs will appreciate this irreverent little gorefest, especially those with a nostalgic soft spot for topliner Dee Wallace, the scream queen of The Hills Have Eyes and The Howling (not to mention E.T.) who remains impressively prolific even as she »

Hollywood Studios Could Launch $30 Movie Rental Service Early Next Year

If Hollywood studios get their wish, a new premium video-on-demand service could finally be introduced in the first two months of 2018. One likely scenario: Consumers would pay $30 to rent a movie only 30 to 45 days after the film has opened in theaters.

That’s less aggressive than some studios might want — there have been suggestions of making a movie available for $50 after 17 days — but the more modest $30 price point could help to soothe the frayed nerves of theater owners, as well as lure more consumers to hit the “buy” button.
